• Skoda Fabia Comfort 16v Auto - starting problem - Skoda Fabia 2 Jun 2010 (Forum)
    When the car starts after giving some trouble, it drives very erratically for a short distance.  In fact, car drives at some speed even without pressing the acceleration. I have taken the car to Nationawide garage (who do regular service) and also to a Skoda dealer; both could not identify the problem.

  I drove it straight to work from the dealership, everything was fine, I put my foot down and I could feel the turbo kicking in.  Driving home in the evening however, I noticed a sudden drop in everything, speed wouldn't go over 60 and my rev's remained low. (this happened while driving)  From this site i've learned it's called a limp home model(?)

  Basically I had a service, they change a filter on the car since then, every time my car is half full of petrol, or driving below 30 mph in traffic, the light will come on with the dash comp reading antipollution fault. I read in the handbook that if this happens to drive the car as soon as possible over 35 mph with reves high.. and also read on another site that putting shell petrol in will cure the problem.This does happen but as soon as i get to just below half full it happens again and lately the car has been pulling and juddering, and losing power.. the light flashed and cat convert fault come on..

  other than this it drives well and returns around 40mpg combined but would like to cure the problem if anyone has any ideas. Many thanks, Dave

  You will hit either hit the elderly gent or the kid Which would you choose - and why? This thread isn't about safe driving, as I'm sure many of you would argue that the driver should have been driving with due care etc. This is about being faced with a terrible dilemma, literally finding yourself in a situation where you have to make a choice.

  This morning the temp gauge never went past M so no problems there but now my heaters are only hot when driving as soon as I stop they blow cold. We did lose some coolant changing the stat but I topped that back up. I've noticed heater control valve mentioned a lot on here and wanted to know if any one has experience of this type of issue?

  Hello Not been on for a while, but was prompted to by something that's been bugging me the last few weeks, having been working away and driving a long commute Mondays and Fridays. What is it that lorry drivers don't understand about 50mph average speed cameras on roadworks? I have now lost count of the number of times I have seen aggressive driving from them because someone is, er, going at 50mph in front of them through these roadworks and there are LOADS of them at the moment: on my journey: M6, M42, M40, A404, M4... is it because they can't just keep their pedal to the metal at 56 or whatever they are restricted to?

  After enjoying my Peugeot 306 for 8 years I bowed down to pressure and let my son have it. The new one is an A3 quattro 2 litre diesel which has a strange response. If I drive a little quickly into a bend it does not respond as I am used to in all my previous (Front Wheel Drive Cars) whereby I could lift off the throttle at the right time and the front end would bite in and I could steer the car round.

  At first I thought this could be a damaged head gasket. but this was changed just over 6months ago. I phoned around a few garages and some seem to think that the engine has blown. I can't really drive it anywhere, as too dangerous with the amount of smoke from exhaust. Just need opinions on what this could be. I'm not sure if it is the engine, as it drives and starts..... or is this me being naive?

  Then, last week, out of the blue he gets a call from the local Constabulary - apologising for not investigating the matter raised in August. The boy, age 15/16yrs had been caught by the Traffic Division driving his mother?s car on the open road. Exactly the information they had been given 3 weeks earlier that they had chosen to ignore or forget about! The boy has now apparently been charged with Theft of a car, driving underage, no licence, no insurance??!

  Hi i have a passat 1.6, its done 124K, the other day i was driving down the motorway at about 70mph and i had a sudden loss of power, only seemed to drive in 3rd gear, came off next junction and noticed loads of smoke coming from the o/s rear wheel, so pulled over into layby, i could hardly the drive the car as the seemed like the brakes were totally seized on.

  Strangely enough, the fan goes off, and the lights dip when the battery light comes on??? I drive 80 miles a day, and have no starting problems, so i assume the battery and alternator are ok. The other problem is the boot switch, when i unlock the car with key fob, the boot switch activates, i press boot release button 10 times and am ok for my journey, if i just open and close boot, it opens when i start car, please point me in the right direction, it's driving me mad, Thanks Gareth {post amended to remove all the SHOUTING!}

  Without meaning to come over all Mr X, I feel that the police drivers would be better off learning more about the physics of car control than the stuff that is taught in 'Roadcraft'. The current system seems to instill a rather wooden driving style.
• Mercedes Benz C-Class W203 (2000 - 2007) - 05 2.2 Car won't rev above 2k and lack of power 7 May 2009 (Forum)
  If I turn the engin off, it 'resets' everything and drives normally for about 3-4 minutes then the lack of power kicks in again. As I was driving to the Mercedes garage, the engine management light can on (yellow) but this wasn't on before. Any thoughts guys?

  I took it back to the dealership who said they will look at it this evening/tomorrow. The thing is I took it for a test drive on Sunday and it drove fine - no warning light and no juddering at low revs (which I also noticed happening today). Since the test drive, the dealer has done an MOT and put in half a tank of fuel but I don't think they have done much else to it..

  Just rang up a local garage to arrange a test drive only to find the demonstrator I want to try is away for Easter. It seems whoever is running the car is taking a long weekend. I'm sure someone will correct me if I've got this wrong but I thought demonstrators were meant to be available for the public to try, not company cars for the senior salesmen.

  hi if there are any police officers on this site can you please tell me when an officer using the computer in a typical police van looks up insurance details for a particular driver can he see the conditions of that insurance, ie can he see whether that driver can drive other cars third party or not or does is just come up with insurance yes / no i was given FPN for driving my friends car with no insurance but i explained i have full comprehensive on my own car and that allows me to drive any other car third party but he insisted that i do not have insurance. i want to make a formal complaint against the officer since i am fully insured as i had believed but was told that he may not have known for sure and thats why he issued the ticket.

  head lights need to be removed and inspected...Removal of bumper? remember the days when most of us were learning to drive and the phenomenon of kangaroo fuel stepped in, bobbing back and forth of the head etc...this car does that when the speedo fails on low revs and it's driving me nuts... i am looking under the bonnet and finding not much room to swing a match stick let alone a cat...

  My wife is the main user of our (new to us) Primera and complains of 2 distinct noises while driving, both of which stop when she touches the brake pedal but then frequently start again immediately. These appear to begin only after the car has thoroughly warmed up because I have only experienced them intermittently on my (shorter) journeys.
