  hi I have a BMW 5 series Touring where the tailgate won't open.  To open the boot I have to release the catch manually from the inside. When I close the boot I can hear the motor grab the tailgate and pull it tight.

  I've just bought a draper slimline oil drain pan so I did an oil change on my deisel bmw yesturday. I let it drip for ages but when I refilled with oil the castrol website specifys 6.7 litres of oil yet I've poured in 6.4 litres and the level is now in the middle of the marker on the dipstick.

  hi guys, about a fortnight ago my bmw stopped, it was diagognosed as a fuel pump problem. i had the injectors and pump refurbished at the factory. ive rebuild it and starts on the button. but at idle it is very erratic. slight touch of throttle and it evens out about 1000rpm. ive checked all the usual suspects but obviously im missing something. it sounds like it might be pulling in some air somewere. anybody any suggestions?

  Hi All My BMW 318i Touring 2005 52,286 has started to display a service interval - "-3550" even though it was serviced at 46,656 and 1 year ago. This is saying that a service was required at 52,286-3550 = 48,736miles Is this a genuine indication of a sevice requirement?

  Hi, I'm new to the forum, thought I knew BMW's, but this fault has me stumped! The battery went flat due to a charging problem, now repaired, but when I restarted it the odometer reads 999,999! I don't know whether this is a new fault, or whether it needs to have it's fault codes read by a specialist.. the true mileage is 111K.

  Have just bought a mint 94 E34 BMW 520iSE with a year's MOT. Alas the mileometer and odometer do not show though I can get a reading with a torch shining. The MOT states 101,565 earlier this week and this matches what I can see. I've checked fuses and all okay so I am confused as what I need to do.

  Hi there, I'm thinking about buying a BMW 320d, however, I have heard some horror stories about turbo failures. Some people on the internet seem to think this problem was resolved sometime in 2003 but I'm not sure where they get their info from.

  I am considering buying a 320i SE Saloon from my local BMW dealer. Its a 55 plate registered in November 2005 and has done only 7500 miles. Should I be concerned that it has only done a few thousand miles in over two years? Price is currently @ just under 16k....is this a good deal or would I be better off with a higher mileage diesel?

  I have an automatic BMW 318i S coupe that judders when moving off, tricky if i need to move quickly at junctions/roundabouts. It only happens when it tries to find 1st/2nd but has no probs changing gear at higher speeds.

  Hi all, I bet someone can help me answer this question. I need to do a project on BMW group and their approach to R&D and Innovation. The very first question that I need to answer is how much they spend each year on R&D as a proportion of total turnover, I've been scouring their annual report and looking at the cash flow statements but I can't find this figure anywhere!

  Mush as i hate them, my wallet is taking a right bashing. I am wondering which is the best Diesel powered BMW 1 series to look at given the different trim levels and engines used. Is the 118d better than the 120d or vice-versa? If anybody has experience of these motors i'd be happy to read your views. Thanks, Mark

  i have a 1992 5 series bmw, today i was out, went to wind up the electric windows and found they have stopped working. got home went to lock the car and found the central locking is no longer working either. i also notice the interior light no longer comes on. is this a common fault with them. i have checked all fuses etc including the ones under the back seat. all seems o.k. but cant find the fault or why it would affect all door electrics. any help would be much appreciated many thanks fred

  I have a BMW 530I Touring (2001 Y), owned from new, low mileage. In the supermarket carpark today when crossing semi-recessed drainage gullies (they were not wholly recessed and protruded about 1/2 inch over ground level), the car really shuddered, right through to the steering wheel (I was doing sub 10 miles an hour at the time).

  I am looking to buy a BMW 525TDSSE Auto, 1996, N, with SH to 130k,Mileage is 160k, for £1,800. The car has A, Leather interior and is in very good condition. I would like to hear from any owners of this particular model as to how reliable are these cars, and whether it is likely to give much problem (if so, what are the common faults) Also, will the car be likely to drink more fuel than the suggested manufacturers mpg figures with 160k miles on the clock?

  I recently aquired a 520iSE, 97, average mileage, full leather and very well looked after. BMW servive history. It looks the part with 18" M series wheels and low profiles, but it just disappoints me all the time. Rattles in the doors which i can't get to, and on a bumpy surfaces it's a complete nightmare.

  Having recently purchased a new 320d SE, (with which I am absolutely delighted) - I am somewhat confused as to oil change intervals, BMW are recommending 13k miles when Castrol SLX synthetic is used, whilst H.J. is saying oil must be changed after 6k miles. Is this still necessary with these modern lubricants, which cost in excess of £11 per litre?

  The Sigma alarm fitted on my 1991 E30 BMW is playing up! Just when I\'ve crawled into bed at about 12:00, the thing will self activate and, if left, will keep turning on and off for a while. The problem only seems to happen when the car has been left in the sun during hot days and then garaged in the evening - it seems to be caused by something cooling down.
