Service or maintenance items - Ubi
When I bought my 325D almost two years ago the dealership offered 2 services free of charge as an incentive.

The car is booked in for its first service tomorrow. I assume the garage will try to cheat me (it wouldn?t be the first garage to cheat its customers) in terms of what are service items and what are maintenance items that I should pay for.

Anyone have a definitive answer to which is which or point me to a reference on it (preferably BMW.)

Thanks

Check the owner's handbook - it lists what work should be done at each oil service, inspection 1 and inspection 2 (i.e. oil change, minor service and major service in BMW-speak).

The service indicator on the instrument panel will tell you which is due next - it shows briefly each time you start the car, before the display flicks over to the odometer.

The service book will contain all the relevant information.

One thing you may have to pay for at two years is a brake fluid change.

You could make sure the windsreen washers are topped up, but they'll probably charge you for brake cleaner. The calipers will look nice and shiny for a short while.

Think this service is just an oil service:

Engine oil
Oil filter
Cabin (ventilation) filter

Goes for fixed price £115 (or £120?) at participating dealers for the past few months or so.

There's no safety checks or car inspection from what i remember according to BMW schedule for this service :-( boo!

You might get a free brake inspection (20 secs with wheels on!) if they're really desperate to up sell :-)

One thing you need to be aware of if you are signed-up to condition-based servicing is that after Inspection I ( and/or II ) you will possibly find trips to the dealers become more frequent, albeit for isolated examples, eg: one trip for the brake pads, one for a micro-filter, one for brake fluid etc etc, the reason being is that they wear/need replacing at differing intervals. Scrolling through the relvant part of the OBC will give you a good indication
