  • Fast A2B car with good fuel range.Ideas? 13 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Alternatively, can you get long range tanks like people used to do for Rnage Rovers and still do for BMW motorbikes? Any help as always appreciated. Budget 18K.
  • Car shows, a thing of the past? 9 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Apparently the Excel centre has about half the capacity of the NEC in terms of square feet for stands and half as much again in terms of car parking spaces. Over last few years big manufactuers such as BMW Mercedes etc have ditched these type of shows for simply being too costly. With million pound budgets to put on a 9 day show they simply felt that the money would be better spent elsewhere. I fear for the Britsh national motor show.

  • recommended large estate ? 28 Nov 2004 (Forum)
With childseats fitted I cannot get into 'standard' sized cars. I am looking at spending up to £10K, bmw 5 series doesnt have much space in the back, saab 9-5 seats are too small (literally a pain in the neck). My brother has a passat which is big enough but I find it uncomfortable, plus I hear a lot of horror stories, and Im not too impressed with the quality of my current A4 What should I go looking at ?
  • Good car, bad car? 4 Aug 2004 (Forum)
We all have ideas about what is a good car and what a bad car but is it purely the car we should consider or should it be that we look harder at the manufacturer and dealer network. I have heard horror stories about BMW, Ford and Volkswagon dealers but that doesn't mean the cars are that bad. Likewise the 'customer support' from manufacturers, is it all good? I personally have had an argument with Ford for nearly five months over a broken fuel pipe on my Fiesta 1.4TDCI which took them ten weeks to repair.

Guess what is currently the ultimate Chelsea (and Kensington) tractor to own? The result may surprise you, it is the VW Toureg. The BMW X5 being by popiular vote, deader than disco. My sister (naturally) owns a Toureg in case you wondered but it did indeed seem to be the vote winner and no less than 4 persons at the do had one on order.
  • Rover 75 Diesel 16 Jul 2004 (Forum)
What i would like to know is does this engine have a cambelt or chain , as someone told me to steer clear of the 75,s as they are a nightmare to work on . the actual garage selling the car says it has a timing chain and not a belt , but who do i believe ! apparenlty it has a bmw engine ? What are these like for high mileage , it will be serviced on time if i buy it , but dont want an unreliable engine at the end of the day . Do hope you all can help me out here ??
  • Demonstrator Cars 30 May 2004 (Forum)
Are they likely to represent good value? I am thinking of changing my car and have been offered an ex-demonstrator by the local BMW dealership. It has done less than 17,000 miles and is said to have been used daily by salesmen as a company car and, of course, for test drives (but not as a loan car while customers have their cars serviced).
  • Rover 75 v Passat 130 Diesel s/h 20 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Somewhat concerned about running costs on the Rover - the VW can be serviced at my local Skoda dealer, and of course lots of parts are on the Superb, too (thinking more in terms of broken headlamps, mirrors or electrical bits). So interested in readers experience with the Rover. How reliable is the diesel Rover - BMW engine, of course, but is it expensive for parts (chain-cam engine, tho) ? . Needs to be VERY COMFORTABLE - now doing 250 miles per day ... :-((

  • slow coolant loss - BMW318 10 Dec 2003 (Forum)
The dealer (who seem thorough and competent) have found no leak despite pressure testing and checking the heater circuit and \"asking BMW if they had any instances like this\". All to no avail. They have also said that the mayonaisse is not unusual in this engine - something I find hard to believe. Anybody care to comment on possible causes of this slow loss and whether the gasket (if thats the problem) is likely to fail suddenly and do I just have to wait until it gets gradually worse and gives more evidence?
  • Rear-ended, need witness 21 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I have just been rear-ended in my QX at 5.30pm today, Tuesday 19th August 2003, on Blackwall Tunnel Northern Approach near the BMW/Renault yard, by an agressive and unreasonable motorist (He would not even give me his address, despite asking twice. However, he is bigger than me and quite aggressive so I did not argue) It was a black, blackened windows car, with an unreadable plate.
  • Posh Estates 23 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I really want an umarket, high spec second hand (2 to 3 years old)estate car. I rather like the Audi A6, the BMW 5 series is good but I am put off that they are everywhere. THe Merc E class is just too expensive. The Saab 9-5 is very appealing but the fact that it is a Vectra underneath puts me off.Should I give them all amiss and become a Volvo V70 driver.
  • A real specialist ! 1 Jun 2003 (Forum)
The garage concerned has an advert in our local rag boldy boasting: "Ultimate Sales & Service" Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Ford, Peugeot, Renault, Rover, MG, Vauxhall, VW, Fiat, Alfa Romeo Citroen & Volvo... SPECIALISTS. It's nice to know her car's being dealt with by people who specialise in so few marques and hence really know the vehicles inside out.
  • Brand Loyalty 5 Dec 2002 (Forum)
The actual score of the 25 cars we have owned is: Mini 2 Triumph 1 Fiat 4 Vauxhall 8 Audi 2 BMW 1 Subaru 1 Citroen 1 Volvo 2 Renault 2 Peugeot 1 So all you profilers out there, what does that say about me?
  • Rogue Trader 9 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I bought a 1997 BMW Z3 from an independent garage 3 weeks ago. They sold the car with a '3 month warranty' which I haven't seen yet, although I was told covered 'all the usual' things. Since then, the clutch has started to slip, and I asked the garage to replace it.
  • Poser Drivers & Their Gaffs ? 25 Sep 2002 (Forum)
A few months ago I was offloading the kids in the 'drivers with small children' section of our local supermarket car park when a poser in a new BMW convertible roared into the car park, top down, stereo blasting, wind in hair etc. etc. As he drove round the first row of parked cars and approached us he noticed a space in our section and made straight for it without a care.
  • Citroen C5 Estate recalls - now UK? 16 Sep 2002 (Forum)
And before anybody says I'm mad to buy one I've had approx 17 "new" cars in 23 years of driveing from many manufacturers from VW to Isuzu and many subject to recalls. Ask the 40,000 BMW Mini owners who are now subject to a gearbox recall or my friend who has a Mercedes ML270 that had a complete new gearbox after 500 miles. Simon JL
  • Best large MPV for me? 2 Aug 2002 (Forum)
I don't like the out-going Espace, even with the huge discounts on offer, and have a background dislike for most French cars (we have a BMW 3 and a VW Polo). Do you think the Espace IV is worth waiting another 3-4 months for? Some of the pre-release info looks quite impressive, but then both the Vel Satis / Avantime on which it is based are lemons to a degree.
  • Converting an automatic to manual ? 22 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Would you have to notify DVLA and pass a MOT type test etc? Chad.R P.S. Specifically, I was thinking of cars such as a MB W124 or a BMW 7 or 5 series (E32/E34), but any general advice would be appreciated.
