  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 05 1.2 Engine Cuts Out 28 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Just bought a second hand Fiesta with only 15k on the clock from a dealer. It was serviced before we collected on Christmas Eve. Noticed on the drive home that it cut out when foot on clutch going around a round-a-bout with loss of power, power steering stopped as a result. When clutch let out engine started again and all was well from there. Same thing happened (at same round-a-bout) last night when daughter was driving.

  • Unavailable Licence 18 Sep 2009 (Forum)
This process will take some 4 weeks (if posting) even longer if the postal strike goes ahead, before it is returned. Question is, what happens in the meantime? does the person drive? I they do decide to drive, and if stopped by the law, does he or she commit an offence because they technically cannot produce the licence within required number of days. With new licences you have to post off the card and paper copy as well.
  • Keswick to Sevenoaks avoiding traffic 4 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Obviously I could go down the A66, A1, M11, M25. Or possibly M6, M40, M25. And I suppose I probably will. However, I fancy a relaxing drive, and don't like sitting in traffic jams and driving in urban areas and red lights. And the M25 is prone to being one big traffic jam. So - is it possible to do this journey during the hours of daylight in such a way that I can get around London without encountering much traffic, or am I being unrealistic?
  • Ford - rusting 30 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Never had any rusting problems on previous cars (Renaults and Peugeots) even after various stone chips and accident damage. Shame because its a really good car to drive but I think the rusting problem would put me off buying one.
  • Mazda Mazda 6 (2008 -) - 08 1.8 High engine revs on cold start 21 Jul 2009 (Forum)
On cold start my Mazda 6 1.8TS petrol revs to 1500 and stays there for about two minutes, making driving difficult in that period. Mazda says this is a normal part of "cold start enrichment" and they have checked it a couple of times. But it doesn't feel right and seems dangerous at the high revs because it drives on the clutch during that period.

  • Changing a headlight bulb - the easy way 8 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Five minutes later, involving removing the old bulb, going into the shop and buying a new bulb (£2.95) fitting the new bulb and closing the bonnet, I was driving away perfectly legally. Why can't all cars be like that.
  • Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 2003 1.6 Hissing sound from brake pedal 20 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Hi I have a vw golf 1.6SE made 2003. When I have been driving and braking for 10 minutes or more I get a hissing sound coming from the inside of the car around the brake pedal. If I stop the car and pump the pedal a few times the hissing noise stops but comes back again when you start to drive and brake again.
  • A car that will safely handle snowy hillroads? 23 Oct 2008 (Forum)
or an X3 or possibly X5 (second hand obviously!) as I am basically looking for a smallish 4x4 that can cope with the snowy roads, and also drives well round corners in normal conditions. Does anyone have any experience of these cars or indeed others in snow?
  • Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 2002 - Clutch / Gearbox 10 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Basically, with the engine running, you can't select any of the gears. However, if you put it in gear and then start it, you can drive it (but only in that gear). Had to drive it home in 2nd for her after it expired in Edinburgh at the weekend. I'm thinking a hydraulics or a vacuum problem but would like some second opinions. Thankfully she's decided just to get it fixed and then sell it as it has been a disaster right from the start.

  • Audi 80 Mk II (1991-1995) - 94 1.9 TDi alternator belt. 9 Jul 2008 (Forum)
From looking, I have to remove the other belt, and it almost looks like I have to remove the red / fans to get access?! Is that really the case? Also, i'm working on the vehicle outside- my work is 20mins drive away and can work undercover there- would it do any harm driving without an alternator belt? Thanks in advance!

  • Which diesel car? 20 May 2008 (Forum)
I will be starting my own business soon and need to very economical car to drive. Will be driving about 75 miles daily, 7 days a week. Need to replace my existing petrol car (30 mpg) with something that cheap to buy and run. Image not imporant, but no Micra, no French cars. The car needs to be reliable.
