Democracy 25 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Corporations have grown so big they have more money than countries and can wield incredible pressure on governments. Take the recent veiled threat from the boss of Nissan for example that pulling out of the EU would not be looked upon favourably by his company. I hear what you say Carlos Ghosn. Even Alex Salmond appears to have had an effect on ship-building in England. -
New Buyers Help 14 Mar 2012 (Forum)
What I really want is a small-medium MPV/Crossover AUTO, but again the good ones start at 15K (with a automatic gearbox). E.G Skoda Yeti, GOLF PLUS, NISSAN QASHQAI, C3 Picasso. (something like this). The only thing thats cheap are the French cars, and while I do think think the French do make a decent car, everyone tells me the autos are rubbish (espicially Renault). -
to be decided - 5 seater luxury rocket? 16 Apr 2011 (Forum)
My old Merc CLK320 was the most uninspiring drive ever, I wouldn't go back to that 4. Going back further, my Nissan 200SX Turbo was too lethal in the wet and too easy to put in a ditch 5. Suburu Imprezas / Mitsubishi EVOs are just too low rent interior wise, and too boy racer image wise Here's some ideas: Rather large: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUBARU-LEGACY-3-0-R-Spec-B-Auto-SATNAV-Parrot-/280658447327? -
Minor bump, steering out, what do I? 7 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I was thinking that it might be worth just taking the car to a Kwik-fit or some such place, but I guess that depends on the likely extent on the damage. Where I should go for a repair? To my Nissan dealer? Or can anyone recommend anyone else in Bradford who might do a good, prompt fix for me? Thanks in advance! -
New Almera for under £6k - no brainer? 12 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Recently sold house and moving to East Sussex (wife to do School run with 5 yr old daughter every day ((no choice - sorry)). Could be funded with Credit card for heavens sake or out of savings. I know the Nissan will be a lacklustre drive after the Fiesta, but the safety bit (as well as extra space - albeit compromised by chnage to 3dr from 5dr I know ), as well as very good sounds about reliability, plus 3yr G/tee for peace of mind and, at this price at least, less than savage depreciation (we would keep it for 4 years minimum anyway) suggests I should order now.............. -
Second car choice - made complicated! 6 Apr 2004 (Forum)
From the list of approved cars - http://www.britax.co.uk/isofix/isofix_vcg_2.htm - I have identified the following as possibilities (the Bentley Continental being just outside the budget) based largely on my own prejudices (I don't want another Octavia for example) and spending time on here : Nissan Almera or Primera Seat Leon, another Ibiza (we wouldn't be getting rid of it if we'd bought a 5 door to start with), Cordoba Vario (few and far between). Mazda 323 Can anyone see anything else from the Britax list which might meet the critera ? -
Dumb Accident 20 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Now the rub is that when I reversed my car to take it to a safe place is was clear that the impact was in the middle of his Nissan Primera Bumper/Grill/Number plate and the point on contact, not forgetting I was stationary was only 30 odd cm’s from the white line, thus he had both O/S wheels on my side of the road. Now I thought this was clear cut as I was stationary. -
What to buy? 29 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Petrol or diesel, though prefer petrol.Image doesn't bother me.I'd like aircon too.I'm considering the following: Toyota Avensis, Subaru Forester, Legacy or Impreza (not the boy racer one), Ford Focus or Mondeo, Nissan Primera, anything else? I'm not interested in: Any Vauxhall (don't like them), VW (ditto), anything French or Italian (I'm not too hot on auto electrics) The Focus looks good, HJ gives it a good write up and then lists a long list of things that can go wrong, same for the Mondeo, so are they that good? -
All the car you need? 7 Feb 2022 (Forum)
You can find reliability with a Toyota Auris or a Honda Jazz but both are utterly dull to drive so it misses out the driver appeal many of us still want in our cars. I’ve suggested many cars over the years fitted this profile. Nissan Primera 2.0 LS 5dr Mk I - Drove as well as a Pug 405 but lasted as long as a Bluebird. Brilliant things. Ford Mondeo 1.8 LX Mk I 5dr - Perfect in almost every way at the time. Ford Focus 1.6 LX 5dr Mk I - Brilliant handling yet reliable, comfortable and cheap to run. -
Worst and best makes of OLDER used cars? 10 Nov 2017 (Forum)
I'm thinking about buying my first halfway-decent car soon (something that looks cool, is cheap to fix when it goes wrong, and won't let me down commuting to work down the motorway - Nissan Quashqai? Maybe even a little van? I only need a two-seater really.. any ideas welcome!) Some makes of car I would not touch with a bargepole are Renault, Mercedes, BMW, Land Rover or Audi. -
Ford Fiesta - Disappointing new models 23 Jul 2017 (Forum)
Ford Ka. Fiat Punto (Mark 1 to Mark 2). Renault Twingo (Mark 1 to Mark 2). Nissan Micra (Mark 3 to Mark 4). I could go on. Let's get the discussion going. I am sure there are a lot of opinions on the matter. -
Vauxhall Astra Hatchback 3-Door 1.9 CDTi Design - Buy A Vauxhall Astra 17 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Not naming names who the dealership is but on their website it states :One of the Midlands largest independently owned, family run car Dealer Groups. And they sell Nissan, Renault, Dacia, Peugeot, Suzuki, Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Citroen . Oh yes I forgot to say the original sales man said he could knock off £500 from the £6,995 if I wanted the car even though It was not part of his stock .... -
Why do we subsidise £30m pre 1973 VED exemption! 19 May 2013 (Forum)
Nor an exemption from the cost of my Shot Gun Certificate despite having it for my late father's gun made in 1919. So why for cars? These aren't old beat up Ford, Nissan or Peugot cars but large "toys" for those with the money to afford a £50,000 Jaguar E-Type or a £120,000 Mulliner Bentley? Hardly the sort of pockets that "need" a VED exemption? I can understand the logic that when this was introduced there was no "online" taxation, no requirement for "continuous taxtion" and no such thing as a SORN declaration. -
Ford Fiesta v VW Polo v Suzuki Swift v ?? - Help on what car to buy 6 Jan 2013 (Forum)
This seems a very good deal but they're offering me a really poor trade in price. I drive a 1.2 08 plate Nissan Micra Acenta, great condition, 37,000 miles on it, done my research, seems to be worth at least £3200 and they said £2600. For anyone reading this who lives in central Scotland, you'll understand which dealership I was at given the monopoly they have in the area (!!). -
Can I reject the car ? 27 Oct 2012 (Forum)
In July 2012 I bought a car from a car dealer in Mobberley, cheshire It was a 2004, Nissan XTrail, 119k miles. It was sold with Full service history. I paid £3995 ( including car tax ) Within a few weeks it started to pump black smoke out the exhaust. After quite a few emails/calls they agreed to take it back and sort it. -

Recommendations for BIG but economical estate pls. 7 Jan 2011 (Forum)
In doing so (these were for new vehicles, mind you, so older ones may have different dimensions) I found that the Nissan Qashcai+2 was tiny and I could barely get my knees in, the Insignia was plenty big, the Passat was very small - similar to Qashcai) although the Touran had good room, the Zafira also had good room and I think the Mondeo did as well. -
Minor prang - insurance procedure please 2 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I have been asked to assist a young lady in the correct / best way to proceed following a minor damage incident. In summary, whilst turning right out of a minor road into a main road, her car (Nissan Micra) was hit on and around the rear offside wheel by a car approaching from her right. There were no witnesses and position of the damage to the rear of her car suggests she was well advanced into her turn when hit by the chap coming from the right. -
Primera: Clutch breaks within 200 yards 7 Mar 2007 (Forum)
X-reg Nissan Primera 1.8S hatchback, QG18DE engine. OK, here goes. Primera needed a new clutch, as it was dragging (difficult to engage gear when stationary). Got a quote from my usual (reliable) back-street garage, £280 inc £140 for the part. -
VW recalls - poorly informed dealers 18 Sep 2005 (Forum)
This is my first (and I think last) VW and so far it has been to the garage 7 times in the last 6 months for one routine service, one sat nav failure and one (yet to be performed) clutch recall. This didn't happen to me in the 10 years I ran Nissan Primeras. All of which is a great pity because I really enjoy driving my Touran, particular now I have changed to Michelin Pilot Primacy tyres which are far quieter than the original Dunlop SP01As.
