  • What car to replace an ailing Passat ? 3 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Anyway i have totally lost my car buying mojo and dont know what to go for next, here is the cars i am considering, skoda octavia, seat ibiza, ( probably to small though) Kia ceed, mitsubishi lancer, audi A4, is there anything else i should be thinking about.
  • Are used diesels still worth considering? 14 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Cars up for consideration, with a 5-6k budget, are Saab 9-5 (I've had quite a few Saabs, feel a fair degree of loyalty to the marque, and quite fancy an Aero estate), Toyota Avensis, Volvo V70, Mazda 6 and Audi (probably too expensive) Some models seem to have a lot of diesels for sale, Mazda particularly. I've read plenty of diesel horror stories here ( I think the Mazda may have featured in some of those) so have discounted diesels completely, but just thinking again and wondering if I'm right to do so?
  • Returning a car on PCP to Freeway 22 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Just looking for a quick opinion on this. My current Audi A3 is on a PCP and will be returned next month. It's on long life servicing, and it just happens that the service indicator is showing that the service will be due as the car is due to be returned.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 04 2.5 mk3 v6 lack of power 8 Apr 2009 (Forum)
The car runs well and smooth, quiet, just a lack of getup and go. For a v6 it is very poor. My old Audi A4 v6 was a hot rod compared to this. Any ideas suggestions before I resort to FORD. I have checked under the bonnet and nothing loose or obviously missing. Car was "serviced" before I bought it ( 3 months ago) but I think they only changed the oil.
  • Ignorant garages to PD engines! 9 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Have I been unlucky this morning or is it as widespread as my little survey suggests? In the end, I have it booked in at a VW specialist for £180 which isnt too bad. Audi themselves only wanted £220 but they couldnt give me a courtesy car for the next 3 weeks and I dont fancy walking 30 miles to work after dropping it off!
  • Clean sheet car designs. 27 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Presumably the Bugatti Veyron is was an all-new design too, even if its W16 engine is loosely based on 2 Audi V8s. I think the Mercedes A-class and the Smart owed nothing to previous designs. Cars that don't count include the Mini and Morris Minor, since they borrowed engines from existing models. What other clean-sheet cars can people come up with?
  • Timing belt guarantees 2 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Hello I have an Audi 80 2.0E, registered in 1993. It was fitted with a new timing belt at 113,283 miles in June 2003. The car has been used fairly intermittently for the last couple of years. My uncle borrowed it this summer, and the timing belt failed at 135,701 miles.
  • Should I consider buying this this car? 11 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Not a big deal really but opinions would be good. I am thinking about privatly buying an Audi A3 TDI (90) Y reg to replace my Peugeot 306 HDI meridian of which i have been quite happy wiht good fuel consunption and good handling. I have fancied an A3 for some time but the problem with this one is that this one has 129k on the clock, my current car has 116K.
  • Sidelights ok, full-beam ok, but no dip! 8 Nov 2006 (Forum)
A chap at Nationwide suggested it may be a failed relay. Is this likely? Anyone encountered this problem with their VW/Audi?
  • Most Reliable Cars 8 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Off-roaders 1st Honda CRV, 2nd Subaru Forester. MPVs 1st Toyota Verso, 2nd Citroen Xsara Picasso. Luxury Cars 1st Audi A6, 2nd Volvo V70. The MPVs and Luxury cars top scores were not as high as the other classes. One or two slight surprises in the results for me - particularly the French cars coming second in two classes.
  • ATF change on auto A6? 5 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Also, presuming that the car hasn't had the ATF changed - does that mean a lot of problems (The car has a Full Audi Service History, and is on 60k)? Many thanks in advance to you all in advance.
  • Accord or Passat? 25 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I'm thinking of buying a new car in the next few months, and would like another Audi A4 tdi but they're a bit more than I want to pay. So I've kind of settled on a choice between the Accord 2.2 diesel and the Passat 2.0tdi SE (saloons). My priorities (in no real order) are economy, reliability, good long-distance cruising ability, spec, space (esp. boot), style/image, nice to drive, and I would welcome comments, advice etc.
  • Celica cabriolet 4wheel steer - Spares ? 6 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Generally are these celica cabriolets a good buy (reliable with reasonable riunning costs) or should one be looking at a european brand. (audi, vw, merc) Many thanks everyone !
  • A4 TDI pours out smoke at idle 2 Feb 2006 (Forum)
The headgasket was replaced last year (due to coolant loss) c/w valve stem oil seals done at the time and again since. EGR valve, hoses all checked and OK. Local independent VW/Audi specialist is now suggesting replacing the turbo saying it's either that or the bottom end. I't's becoming big money so advice welcomed.
  • Two cars to one. 23 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I have suggested something along the lines of a new Golf convertible but it's not available yet. Audi convertible is too big and they won't consider a French motor so no Pug or Renault Coupe/Cabrios! £20,000 budget.
  • Spoilers 10 Oct 2005 (Forum)
And boy, do I. - Yes. I have a factory-fitted spoiler, but it's definitely a spoiler. - Yes. I have an Audi TT that was recalled to have a spoiler fitted so I don't die. - I have a bit of bodywork that appears to be designed to do the job of a spoiler. - I have an MPV with perpendicular roof bars that I've moved to the back to try and make my C8 look a bit like the A Team van
  • bangernomics vehicle of choice 4 Jul 2005 (Forum)
(Although I only do about 3K miles a year so maybe it's not much of a challenge) Therefore I was wondering about an old Audi 80 or VW passat as they seem a useful size and can be picked up for just over a grand in reasonable condition. Prices (in general) don't seem as cheap as they were a few years ago so I was wondering whether this form of motoring still makes sense or if I should just stop being so tight and go and buy a proper car.
  • Carte blanche 21 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I think mid-size is preferable to mini (and likely to be better value) and my happy experience with the family Mazda makes me look favourably upon 323's and similar. I like my old Audi, too, but I cheerfully admit to bias, which is why I'm asking you lot... What say you all?
  • Was I dreaming? 3 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I looked across and saw the car had two young couples in it and then his passenger window came down and the driver said something, I was spoiling for an argument and getting into 'baseball bat' mode when I wound down my window and said 'What did you say' , assuming it was an insult. His reply ' I'm sorry - I'm a stranger to the area'. I was gobsmacked - I didn't think an Audi driver did things like apologies.
  • Balm for the soul 17 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Motoring joy is still available: just not too often. My only regret? that I couldn't have been driving the Audi TT (top down) that I overtook, rather than the Mondeo Diesel, but the Ford was surprisingly enjoyable, and helped me to understand "surfing the wave of torque" that everyone describes. What was also impressive was that the roads were well gritted throughout the journey.
