Hyundai Coupe (1996 - 2002) - Anyone got feedback on them? 13 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I'm planning a replacement for my ageing (but still excellent) BMW 525TD, and I rather fancy a Hyundai Coupe. Has anyone on this forum owned or used one, if so are there any pitfalls to look out for when buying? I'm looking for the 2000-01 models with the different front end, preferably the 2.0 SE. -
Car to commute for sub £8K. 22 Oct 2007 (Forum)
For longevity and economy I'm probably going for a diesel. What do you consider to be good alternatives? I'm not considering a BMW, as their indicators never seem to work! -
X5 Battery Keeps going flat 2 Aug 2007 (Forum)
A friend of mine is at his wits end with his X5 whose battery keeps going flat after a week or so. It's been into the local BMW dealer numerous times, for new battery (x2), new ignition switch, new alternator (£1000!) but still the battery flatens after a week or so. Any suggestions on a technical level, or recomendations for a company that will diagnose the problem? -
German Power Battle 25 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Have we seen an end to this between the German big 3 I wonder. I bet it features in the Internationla Engine of the Year awards as most BMW engines tend to. -
LED brake lights 25 Dec 2006 (Forum)
We were in stop-start traffic in broad daylight and he was using his foot brake nearly constantly. The effect on my eyes was not pleasant. It was almost painful. Perhaps Mercedes, BMW, Range Rover etc should investigate better control of these lights in such conditions. I understand the benefit for high-speed braking but not otherwise. -
Selling car to a dealer 22 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Following on from my thread about auction values and selling my BMW. I've found a dealer who is prepared to pay me the sort of money I'm looking for but I've never sold to a dealer before and am somewhat nervous about just handing over the car. So any tips would be useful, how should I get him to pay me for the car and keep myself safe? -
Duplicate tax discs, confused 23 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Hi all, I noticed last week that a carpet dealer who has parking next to my office has a copy of the tax disc from his high-top transit on his BMW 540 !!!!!!! What is the likelihood of him getting picked up routinely for this offence, or should I give somebody a pointer ??? Not really my thing but if 99% of us have to pay then why shouldn't he ??? -
Warranty Insurance 18 May 2005 (Forum)
Just had renewal quote from Warranty Direct for my 1998, 87000 mile bmw 318 estate. Gone up by 32% (thirty two!) this year and excluded cover for 'Suspension' and 'Air Conditioning' which was covered last year. Went on web site for 'new customer' quote - guess what - increase was 6%. -

Laguna Facelift. 24 Feb 2005 (Forum)
It seems they have grafted a Megane II nose onto the body shell, (it looks like an almera at the front now) the rest appears much the same. Some interior changes, looks like its got a version of the BMW I-drive, and softer colour schemes but much the same inside. Oh dear Oh dear Renault, what have you done :( -
Cars with 'cred. 15 Jan 2005 (Forum)
With that in mind, what cars do you think has it and doesn't have it around the £2-3000 used mark? My Top 3: BMW 3-series Audi A4 And the predictable 306. Bottom 3: Skoda Felicia Kia Rio Vauxhall Astra. -
Prestige marques 29 Oct 2004 (Forum)
With about £10K to spend I am undecided whether to play it safe and go for an almost new Mondeo or, making a big switch for me(!), opt for a 3 / 4 year 'quality' car such as a Saab, Merc, BMW etc but probably with 75,000+ on the clock? Is there really a big difference these days between the best of the repmobiles and the premium marques or is largely now just snob value in having the right badge on the bonnet? -

Boosting Long/Medium wave reception 18 Mar 2004 (Forum)
On a standard BMW radio the reception is generally fine, by which I mean I am mainly tuned to FM (when not playing CDs). However I also tune in to medium wave for sport and occasionally also to long wave, and would like to improve reception quality and number of listenable stations on these bands. -
diverse driving 2 Mar 2004 (Forum)
how diverse is your driving ? I regularly drive ; 1. fiesta van, old, underpowered, slow, floats along cheaply. 2. bmw coupe, powerful, fast, comfortable. 3. mgf trophy, road hugger, very fast, go-kart. each gets from a to b, but in totally different modes 1. glad to arrive 2. sorry the journeys over 3. finish with a smile! -
Numberplate designs 9 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I've just seen a BMW Z3 on the A40 through Oxford with a numberplate that has a black background and white lettering - just like cars from the 60s and before. The Z3 was black, so the overall effect was stunning. Does anyone know if this is legal? -
Stolen alloys 19 Aug 2003 (Forum)
On the way into work this morning I noticed an BMW E36 in the next door road sitting on bricks. Is there no way that alloy wheels can be hooked into the alarm system of the car and shouldn't manufacturers have better security on wheels rather than just a locking nut which seems not to be much use against a professional thief. -
Matrix Reloaded 26 May 2003 (Forum)
Just been watching the new movie, and was a bit disappointed by the product placement of the cars - am I right in thinking the main car chase was an advert for Cadillac & Ducati? Bit of a dig destroying that BMW 7 Series, and surely it wasn't a co-incidence that they sent a Ford Explorer cartwheeling. Bit like the Bond movie where the product placement was a bit OTT, IMHO. Still, great movie. Lee. Lee MINI adventure in progress -
The new 5 series 3 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Heard reports from the US that the 7 series is already undergoing a major restyle. Not surprised; when the car was launched I had it on the authority of a very well-known BMW dealer that it was a good car...for a Lexus! Wonder how soon they'll redo the 5. Any guesses, HJ? -
question for honest john 29 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Hi, Thanks for looking at this. At the moment my dad drives an E36 BMW M3 Evo, however he is considering changing it for a 1997+ M5. How much are these cars currently going for and how much cheaper will they be in a years time? - i.e. is it worth waiting a year to take advantage of depreciation?
