  • Vauxhall Astra H (2004 - 2009) - Vauxhall automatics - any specific issues? 29 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Is there anything specific to beware of though? Car has done 9000 miles and I think was a 'fleet' car. Only other make I had thought of was Nissan with the Micra and Note but not the most inspiring of cars - though presumably pretty solid and reliable? Ford has nothing locally, only through Ford Direct so cannot view/test drive. Andrew
  • Can a Dealer cancel a deal? 20 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Once a dealer has shaken hands and taken your payment, can he then decide he has underpriced the car and refuse to let you have it?? Found a mint low mileage Nissan Micra SVE auto for my wife today. She had her older Micra written off by a policeman in a bit too much of a hurry to respond to an incident. Great car for the money, haggled a bit, shook hands. Paid for the car with a credit card - we needed to get a car today.
  • Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - '00 1.8 petrol - faulty fuel gauge? 15 Jan 2008 (Forum)
A few miles later I looked in the mirror to see I was being tailgated by the same mid-life crisis in a Nissan 350Z that I saw half a second away from a head on collision yesterday morning, and when I looked back to the dash, light was out and gauge was showing correctly again and stayed that way for the rest of the journey.
  • Which small automatic car? 1 Nov 2007 (Forum)
As it's a departure from what she's used to, I've suggested second hand (£1000 to £3000) to make sure it's the right decision, but a new car is not totally out of the question. I don't think street cred matters. Any ideas on a reliable one? Japanese? Maybe Nissan Micra?
  • Hangar Lane traffic nightmare! 28 May 2007 (Forum)
Why, I have to ask, if someone is trying to pull across three lanes of traffic because they got in the wrong lane, and you CANNOT move forwards or backwards due to not having VTOL, does that make you deserving of the charming cheek and hand "relief" gesture? I am sorry I cannot miraculously shorten my vehicle, Mr Silver Nissan Sunny and your charming cargo of weasel-faced teenage scum... sincere apologies for that one.
  • No more car hunting, hurrah! 28 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I was scared off the Punto reading the owners reviews on What Car and the regular tales of head gasket/steering column failures on the Fiat Forum. Couldn't find a decent Nissan Almera and a 54 plate Mitsubishi Colt was sold.(which was my preferred choice) So I've bought her a 2005 54 Plate Hyundai Getz 1.3 GSi. Two years old with 26000m from a Hyundai dealer. It's got three years manufacturers warranty remaining and a years RAC recovery.
  • S-plate Micra engine light & 2 lambdas? 6 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Hi Nissan Micra automatic 1.3 I'm trying to sort out a problem on a Micra. Basically the owner's been having the engine management light come up on the dash for about a year now and has had the fault code read at expense.
  • Easy to drive van? 2 Oct 2006 (Forum)
This is just long enough for a mattress (based on what vans maximum length of load statistics of 206cm) and seems to be a good solution to drivability especially in city traffic. I`ve also thought of the nissan vanette (and LDV cub), toyota powervan, mitsubishi l300 and l400 etc. So what would forum users advice be? Thanks in advance Vertical fool
  • New Ford Chief Exec 6 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Carly Fiorina didn't sort HP but it's back on track now since she got fired. Anyway next major Ford headline IMHO is a tie-up with Renault/Nissan I suspect... before GM do it. Rob
  • Diagnose my Micra please 23 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Car: Nissan Micra 1997 1.0 Shape 48,000 miles Symptoms: Sitting inside the car, with the gearbox in neutral and the clutch out, I can hear a knocking noise that keeps time with the engine speed. When I depress the clutch the knocking noise disappears.
  • Primera Xenon Headlamps 1 Aug 2006 (Forum)
When I complained the garage told me they had had a problem, (why?, how could they return a car like this, QC is abysmal) took the car back, spoke with Nissan and now they claim lights are perfectly aligned, using their MOT testing equipment. The problem is that the roadway is well lit, but forward vision is very limited. (Road signs, reflectors etc) I am fed upwith the garage's incompetence and would like to align them myself.
  • P-reg Primera upper links 30 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Hi, I've had a well-known suspension knocking in my Primera for some time and decided to do something about it. This would require replacing both upper links (confirmed being the problem by a Nissan dealer). It seems to be a not very difficult job, however I looked in Haynes manual and it is not clear if the upper link can be replaced without removing a centre link. Has anyone of fellow backroomers tackled this job themselves and advise ?
  • Car for £1K 19 Apr 2006 (Forum)
But my budget is very limited. Do I have any chance to find reliable car for this amount of money? I was thinking about Nissan Sunny, small Honda Civic, Ford Fiesta or Rover 200-25. My friends are sure that for this money I can buy only rubbish and will spend a lot on fixing all breakages.
  • New Focus tdci 90 - underpowered??? 30 Mar 2006 (Forum)
You often see good deals on good cars in which the French have little interest, e.g. Fords, Skodas, Nissans. The French buy French cars.' Why'would start a very interesting thread. You can take a look at ac38.com Then click on 'notre stock' The word 'break' means estate. Otherwise, you should understand I think.
  • Rusted in bolts on Micra headlamp 4 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I'm in the process of replacing the bashed in headlamp on my 95 K11 Nissan Micra. [See front end shunt repairs]. I have obtained a headlamp assembly from a scrapyard (£20). I am attempting to remove the existing headlamp assembly. I have removed 2 x retaining screws at the top and bottom of the headlamp.
  • Private sellers over optimistic on price 17 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I am currently wanging around in a C reg Nissan Silva 1.8 auto. I love in to death but realise that I must sell it soon or I will die. If you know anything about these cars you will understand, winter is not an option with these things. Plus I am in funds at present plus I need to get something more presentable to my increasing client list.
  • USA Motoring 21 Jun 2004 (Forum)
They are: BMW 3 Series Audi A4 BMW 5 Series Audi A6 Infiniti G35 Coupe MB CLK BMW Z4 Saab 9-5 Wagon(Estate) VW Touareg Infiniti FX45 The Infiniti is to Nissan what Lexus is to Toyota. At this price the models are the top of the range often with 4WD. For instance the BMW 330xi with 3.0L 4WD(AWD) has a base price of approx $34K In this part of America(Atlantic coast of Florida) it seems that the median age of drivers is 70+ and hence one would assume into the traditional 'floating barge' car.
  • Banger rally 26 Aug 2002 (Forum)
Actually I don't think I will be able to get the time off work, but I'm still thinking about what kind of car would stand the best chance of surviving the journey. I reckon a Nissan Bluebird, or maybe a VW Jetta 1.8. Somehow I feel almost morally obliged to have a go at this - perhaps I could persuade my employers that it would be good publicity for them. Maybe even get some sponsorship.
  • Hyundai Accent; good value? 25 Aug 2002 (Forum)
I was looking around for cars around the 1000-1500 mark, and the vehicles from the bigger firms (Nissan, VW, Ford etc) were all quite old, you'd be talking a K or L reg which is getting on a bit now. However with the Accent I saw some 96 Ns and even Ps for around 900-1100 quid, and these cars look quite good on paper.
  • MPV or not to MPV? 4 Nov 2001 (Forum)
What do you do when you've three kids, a kitchen sink, and more to move - but up to now had avoided the MPVs (small boys, and big, have enjoyed the ride in a 7 seater Nissan Terrano for the last few years but the back (small) bench seat won't be much good any longer!). An MPV seems to be on the horizon, BUT which one? Do you go for petrol or diesel, auto or manual?
