  • Skoda Octavia vRS TDI (2006-) 19 Jun 2016 (News)
The significant change came in 2008 when the 2.0 TDI PD engine was replaced with the newer common rail diesel. It’s much more refined and quieter too but the main difference is the power delivery. Whereas the PD engine would lag at low revs, giving you no power before suddenly shoving you forward with a big smack of torque, the common rail unit is more linear.

2.0 JTD M 170 BHP DIESEL ENGINE Given that Alfa Romeo introduced common rail diesel technology more than 10 years ago on the Alfa 156, it should come as little surprise that it has now developed a new diesel unit that brings higher power and torque values, yet, at the same time, increases fuel efficiency and lowers CO 2 emissions.

Or, if you always obtained your fuel from a single supplier, do you want to pursue the fuel station, which has already denied any water in its fuel? It is possible that if the vehicle was filled with high percentage biofuel (which has a higher water content) and left for a long time unused, then condensation created the water in the fuel.

  • Goodwood Festival of Speed: Volkswagen XL1 demonstrations 27 Jun 2013 (News)
.  This super-innovative, ultra-frugal model looks like a vision of the future, but it is in fact already in limited production.  The XL1 is the world’s most fuel-efficient production vehicle, with an official combined fuel consumption figure of 313 mpg and CO 2 emissions of 21 g/km, and it is also one of the most advanced vehicles in the world.  Its body is made largely of carbon-fibre reinforced polymer, while its drivetrain melds a two-cylinder 800 cc diesel engine with an electric motor.  Like any good supercar, it is also low (at 1,282 mm high it is lower than a Porsche Boxster) and features scissor-opening doors (although its 120-litre boot does make it somewhat more practical than supercar enthusiasts may like).

  • Frankfurt Motor Show 2015: Vauxhall Vivaro Surf Concept announced 11 Sep 2015 (News)
We'll have to wait until the Frankfurt show to see all that, though the overhaul extends beyond the fixtures and fittings, with a rear air suspension system not only providing a water-like ride quality (in theory), but lowering the ride height for a more aggressive overall look. The tailgate is electrically powered too. Power comes from a 1.6-litre CDTi BiTurbo diesel engine, with fuel consumption rated ar 46.3mpg. Vauxhall says that the Surf Concept may go into production, though it’s more likely to form the basis of a Limited Edition specification Vivaro focussed less on business use and more on ‘lifestyle’ buyers.
  • July best month this year for new car sales 6 Aug 2012 (News)
Because of the latest increase in new car sales, the SMMT has revised its full year prediction for 2012 upwards to 1.97m units, up from the 1.94m units sold in 2011. Diesel models are the best sellers, as they have been all year, accounting for 50.4% of new registrations, with 48.2% of the new cars registered in July powered by petrol and the remainder made up of alternative fuel vehicles such as electric or hybrid cars.
  • New car registrations flat in February 7 Mar 2012 (News)
.” The SMMT expects total 2012 registrations to be around 1.2million, behind last year’s 1.4million. A stable marketplace is, though, dependant on economic factors, including fuel duty and taxation.   Diesel engines continue to be more popular than petrols, perhaps thanks to the larger market share taken by fleet and business vehicles, which accounted for 59.4% of registrations.
