Goodwood Festival of Speed: Volkswagen XL1 demonstrations 27 Jun 2013 (News)

The XL1 is the world’s most fuel-efficient production vehicle, with an official combined fuel consumption figure of 313 mpg and CO 2 emissions of 21 g/km, and it is also one of the most advanced vehicles in the world. Its body is made largely of carbon-fibre reinforced polymer, while its drivetrain melds a two-cylinder 800 cc diesel engine with an electric motor. Like any good supercar, it is also low (at 1,282 mm high it is lower than a Porsche Boxster) and features scissor-opening doors (although its 120-litre boot does make it somewhat more practical than supercar enthusiasts may like). -

New Michelin tyres last longer, and save fuel without sacrificing grip 30 Jun 2010 (News)
Longevity remains Michelin’s prime attribute, usually meaning that the company’s slightly more expensive tyres cost less in the long run. Relatively low rolling resistance means they also save you money in fuel. But no driver puts longevity and fuel saving over safety, so Michelin’s tyres must also provide grip at least the equivalent of the competition. And that is what Michelin set out to prove to us at the ADAC testing facility near Berlin. -
Frankfurt Motor Show 2015: Vauxhall Vivaro Surf Concept announced 11 Sep 2015 (News)
We'll have to wait until the Frankfurt show to see all that, though the overhaul extends beyond the fixtures and fittings, with a rear air suspension system not only providing a water-like ride quality (in theory), but lowering the ride height for a more aggressive overall look. The tailgate is electrically powered too. Power comes from a 1.6-litre CDTi BiTurbo diesel engine, with fuel consumption rated ar 46.3mpg. Vauxhall says that the Surf Concept may go into production, though it’s more likely to form the basis of a Limited Edition specification Vivaro focussed less on business use and more on ‘lifestyle’ buyers. -

STORMY ECONOMICS HITS USED CONVERTIBLE VALUES 21 Jun 2008 (News)
“The credit crunch is inevitably playing a part, and convertibles are particularly vulnerable to consumer belt-tightening as they are seen as a luxury purchase. While some models are available with more economical diesel engines, these examples remain scarce on the second-hand market. -
