  Hyundai i800 named number one towcar 29 Sep 2008 (News)
  The organisation has named the model towcar of the year in the £16,000 to £20,000 class after taking into consideration its abilities in a number of areas, including hill starts, acceleration and braking. Hyundai claimed the vehicle is perfect for people going caravanning as it offers good visibility and a tight turning circle. Meanwhile, the judges on the Caravan Club panel said: "The i800 is a cracking load carrier, shows a lovely attitude when hitched and good access to towing sockets."

  This could prove to be a problem for drivers looking to keep their car insurance costs down, as they may pick up a conviction which leads to more expensive cover costs. According to Katie Shephard from road safety charity Brake, a personal breathalyser device could be useful for motorists.   Parking assistance systems, while typically installed in more luxurious models, are no new thing – but while they require you to control the throttle and brake the new Ford system doesn’t. In fact it doesn’t even require you to be in the car at all – you can set it going with a button on the keyfob. It’s not currently available to buy, but Ford has produced a prototype that can select the correct gear, find a parking space, reverse into it and stop.

  The passenger compartment was another factor in the high score, Vauxhall explained, as this is designed to provide the biggest "survival space" if a crash were to occur. Six airbags, ABS, adaptive brake lights, airbag deactivation settings and traction control are some of the other gadgets and gizmos included in the new Astra aimed at improving safety. According to the carmaker, the motor provides overall "outstanding crash performance".
