Citroen Despatch (2007 - ) - 05 1.9d Intermittant engine surging woes. 2 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Evening all,my citroen despatch van has developed an engine surging problem.Whilst driving in the mid speed range & accelerating the van seems to hold back as if its hunting for fuel & you can hear a loud crack from the engine as if the fuel timing is to far advanced followed by a brief cloud of smoke,it then clears itself & the van runs perfectly at higher speeds.Im led to believe the ecu & other various sensors controls the advance/retard fuel timing on the injection pump regarding this engine.Could it be a dodgy multiplug connection somewhere or has the pump solenoid shot its bolt?. -

Volvo S40/V40 (1996 - 2004) - 1999 2.0T - V40 bad misfire 15 May 2009 (Forum)
Can be better after a cool down and it is always OK next day at the garage - has been back each time but not fixed. Have had new ecu (originally no fault codes) and a coil (based on fault codes). It worked for 2x130 mile journeys after coil but died today after 40 miles (warm day tho) Any ideas - am at wits end, might have to sell but don't want to! -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1998 1.4 Petrol - Missfire 23 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I'm at the point where i want rid of the car but i can't sell it like this! I have read a few things online where its been suggested it could be the ECU, also could be a MAP sensor?? Any help is greatly appreciated! -
Volkswagen Beetle (1998 - ) - do I need to disconnect battery whilst charging ? 30 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Can't say I've ever disconnected the battery from the car before? Presumably this would result in the ECU resetting itself, needing to dig out the code for the radio etc. Is it really necessary to disconnect the battery from the car, or is this just the manufacturer trying to cover their backs? It's only a 4 amp charger and would be left on overnight. -
Volkswagen Lupo (1999 - 2004) - 03 1.4 Misfiring when cold 4 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I have seen some info on the web indicating that this fault can be caused by failure of the heater element in the lamda sensor, causing the ECU to think the engine is running too rich when it is cold, so it makes the mixture leaner until the mixture till the engine misfires. Once the exhaust gas has heated up the lambda sensor, the problem goes away. -
Vauxhall Astra G Diesel (1998 - 2004) - 03 2.0 Power loss/revs increase after long idle 21 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Also when in heavy traffic and the vehicle is at idle for a prolonged period of time the revs will icrease to approx 1300 RPM and the ECU light will come on. During this time the vehicle speed is limited as I cannot increase the revs. This same fault sometimes occurs on initial start up. If the engine is turned off and then re started the fault disapears until the next time it is in a prolonged Idle. -
Mazda 323 (1998 - 2003) - 2002 2.0 Correct way to use jump start leads? 16 Sep 2008 (Forum)
As soon as he put the lead on the engine hanger of the Corsa it sparked. The car then started okay with the jump but it later transpired that the ECU was fried! It's possible that on trying to use a battery charger before jump starting he connected the charger to the wrong terminals (he remembered there was no voltage reading from the charger's meter). -
Renault Laguna (1994 - 2001) - 00 1.8,16v engine misfire 31 May 2008 (Forum)
Renault Laguna 1.8,16v,bought the car knowing the clutch was slightly slipping and engine idle slightly low, since put a new clutch in the engine has been plagued by a misfire that would put any sa80 to shame, changed the lambda sensor(bosch),4 individual pencil packs(the german ones),new battery, oil and filters, compression test (all ok)had a diagnosis test and came back ok,its had timing belt and pulleys too but still the misfire continues to kangaroo hop down the road when under load between 1000/2000 and when throttling on when i a high gear a poping in the engine can be heard, been told it could be the throttle position switch or the ECU thats causing the problem, need to know as this car costing me a fortune and buggin me that i can't get to the bottom of it,any one with the similar problems that may be able to advise, much obliged. -
Reliable diesels - is there such a thing? 16 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I've a (very) unreliable Ford Focus estate which, over the past 6 months has cost me more than £1,000 to keep on the road and has been off-road at the garage for more than 5 weeks - it's had ECU and fuel injection problems, clogged valves...you name it.... From reading this forum, the 130bhp Mondeo seems dogged with similar problems, ditto the Mazda 6. I'm after a diesel. It needs to have a big boot for the dogs. -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1998 1.3 - Engine trouble 22 Feb 2008 (Forum)
1242cc 16v 1998/R reg Hi, My engine had seized up so I bought another one (exactly the same even down to the year of manufacture) and fitted it. Upon attempting to start the car it is cranking but not firing. This cant be an ECU problem because the engine is exactly the same as the old one even down to the year. We have identified the most probable cause being no fuel getting to the engine, the reason being that upon disconnecting the injector pipes only minimal fuel drips out where it should be considerably greater, somewhat squirting out. -
306 hdi injectors or alternator pulley? 4 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Also when the engine is started and is cold the alternator does whistle until warm and the belt has been renewed and correctly tentioned-would this accur if the pulley was worn My other question is if i come across some injectors (if that is the cause) i know about matching part numbers on the top of the injector but would the ecu have any problems recognising the new injectors if i get a complete set of the same number? sorry if this is a borng post but id really like to sort this one way or another cheers -
Ford Focus Instruments 7 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Any suggestions gratefully received. I'm stumped with the electronics side of cars! I'm guessing its either the ECU or something to do with the instrument panel itself? -
Allergic to Modern Cars 14 Sep 2006 (Forum)
However, as these are now hard to come by I'm wondering what the least complicated new-ish car might be - no ECU ETC. To be like this is very debilitating .... so, I thought it was worth a stab to pose the question on here. The condition for this is generally termed as ELECTROSENSITIVITY - loads about this online. -
Renault Scenic gone crazy!!! 5 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I took my son to football this evening, as i got back into the car to go home, the following warnings came up, "ASR and ESP Failure" "Passenger Airbag deactivated" and "Parking Brake failure"!!!!! I suspect a faulty ECU, i know the car is under warranty, but was wondering what the problem may be, and has anybody else experienced this problem before??? thanks -
Sterling 827 SLi, 1991 29 Aug 2005 (Forum)
All other remedies have been done, including flushing the cooling system, replacing the radiator and the thermostat and replacing the head gaskets. Is there a trick I can use or an ignigtion ECU interface I can get that will allow me to do the adjusting? Thanks in Advance, Art compukey@flash.net -
306 Dturbo diesel pump and immobiliser 26 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Anyway, I went to Peugeot to ask them but all I got was a blank look, so I thought id try here. Will I need to swap the pumps over? surely the code is stored in the ECU and that then sends a signal to the fuel shut off valve in the pump? The pump on the new engine is slightly different in that it has a damper and a pipe leading to the oil filler, whereas the old one doesnt have these. -
Alfa woes & Test of New GT 24 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Its was due a 96,000 service and for the airbag light to be investigated. Actually picked it up yesterday, clutch problem turned out to be a leaking rear seal, ECU was the problem for the airbag light. Clutch takes 7.7 hours on this one! Even dealer was surprised.... Total bill was £ 1,260...Had a 156 JTS on loan which averaged 32MPG and goes quite well, this one was on 17s although not sure that I like the styling off the new wheels, prefer the 16s Veloce ones on mine. -
Servicing CD's -- are they useful? 18 Jun 2004 (Forum)
The 'factory Service/Repair manual' turned out to be pretty useless. It showed me where to plug in an ECU analyser, if I had one! It also displayed a nice table of bolt sizes and their tightening torques. Not where they were, though. As to information similar to that found in a Haynes manual, forget it. -
Citroen Xsara Brake Lights 2 Jul 2003 (Forum)
It's been in to the main dealer 5 times and they still can't fix it. The last time it spent a whole week in thier workshop with the ECU being replaced, prior to this it was 3 days with various switches being replaced. The fix usually lasts about 2 weeks then guess what ? Yep the 10 amp fuse goes again, the main dealer has suggested I uprate the fuse to 15 amp to stop it blowing!
