  I know that my car has a function where as you press a button and the headlights come on automatically when it starts to get dark. I know where the button is situated, but i have no idea how it works. Ive pressed it and it has got dusk and nothing has happened. Now it may just be that it needs fixing, maybe its broke, or maybe im just being abit thick ?

  I\'ve had a 1990 E30 320i for a year now and getting a bit pink fluffy dice off at how bad the MPG is, the best i can get on a long run down motorway is 25 mpg, i end up driving like a granny cause if i put my foot down the mpg goes well below 20 mpg. Is there any other car around the same size with a 2 litre engine thats automatic thats got a better MPG.

  My Dad's looking for a newer car to replace his ageing Ford Mondeo 2.5 V6. He's got around 10k to spend, and needs an automatic. He'd also like a diesel if possible, as nearly all his journeys are long motorway ones, and economy is important. It also needs to be capable of towing a 2 berth caravan. It'll do around 15k miles a year and be kept for the next 10 years or so.

  I ask only because I'm interested... Why does there seem to be a presumption against towing with automatics? I regularly tow a horse & trailer (total about 1.75 tonne), previously with an auto Rangey classic, and now with my X5. I've never had a problem, but when I tell people, I get the pursed lips and shaking head treatment.
