Does anybody have access to the relevant data for the torque setting for the sump plug on a 1995/1996 1.3 Nissan Micra.
Cheers.

Firmly tight but not too tight, with the use of a normal spanner, if you see what I mean!
Nobody torques up sump plugs!

35-47 Nm. There are plenty who will torque up sump bungs, especially if learning and trying to get a feel for what is tight and what is loose. I've lost count if how many Mini and Metro sump bungs, and others, I've had helicoiled because of incorrect tightening. Dave is well experienced, and he knows what is 'tight but not too tight'. You stick to a torque wrench and have the certainty that it is right.

Thanks for your info.

The sump plug washer for this model is a 'squash down' type (don't know the correct terminology!), so providing you are using a new one there is no need to go mad with the wrench as you will feel when it is right.

Very good answer, Mike, and worthwhile advice! Now, all I have to do is go down to my local ourangoutan tyre-fitters, and explain it all to them... :)

I have to agree with Mike. We reduced the hexagon size (and hence the spanner size) of sump plugs on Perkins' engines about 20 years ago following thread-stripping by muscle-bound service mechanics. It is not always the D-I-Y man who misjudges tightening torques.
