The micro switch in the tailgate latch sends an earth signal to the rear electric module , located in the left rear of the boot area . The wire could be broken where it runs through the rubber tube fro body to tailgate. The colour of the wire is black with a blue tracer colour .

I don't why VW has this reputation but they do seem to engender tremendous brand loyalty. Many new cars are fleet sales, so they are only interested about problems that may arise for the 3 or 4 year lease period. They don't care if the cars start to fall apart after that. As for the British supporting British-made products, history has shown us that the UK consumer is more mercenary and disloyal than just about anyone else. Go through the list of the best-selling cars in European countries and it is usually a car made there that is the best seller.

I entirely agree. Today's cars are overloaded with "kit" and "tech" which many of us do not want or understand. Some gadgets are downright dangerous, including electronic parking brakes whose accident records are well documented, and needlessly complicated touchscreen menus which distract the driver as much as using a mobile phone.

I wish that the major manufacturers would go back to producing the cars most people actually want, not the ones they think we ought to have, but complexity keeps prices and repair costs high. The success of Dacia proves that there is a ready market for basic low tech cars at sensible prices.

I have a Tesco click and collect slot tomorrow and I'm wondering if someone can help. Do I just turn up anytime in the two hour slot or will I be advised of a more precise time?

Cheers Read more

Very easy process. My slot was 8.00 - 10.00. Turned up at 7.55, was only one waiting apart from car being loaded. Within 30 seconds another car turned up. Car in slot left couple of minutes after 8. When I departed there were 5 cars in queue. Groceries already bagged.Placed in crate for me to load. Staff of course kept distance.

Will reuse bags, currently sitting in bucket of bleach, disinfectant and soap. In due course going on washing line in garden for at least 24 hours. Virus hates being outside, even more so in sun light.

Interesting comparison there, Thunderbird, and one that I think is still worth making with today's cars.

VW v Ford and Audi v BMW. To get the best out of a Ford or a BMW, particularly the higher-performance models, you need to concentrate hard on exploring what they can do. With a VW or Audi, obviously you still need to concentrate on driving but you can relax more while you're doing so....

That’s a tad harsh! I think Cross Climates are brilliant. They proved their worth to me a couple of years ago , when we had the so called beast from the east.

If like me, you're a fan of Car SOS, and watching it on More 4, you may like to know that National Geographic channel is now part of the NowTV entertainment pack. This means that you can see the current series if you're subscribed.

I've just been watching the Austin Healey 3000 episode (series 8 episode 2). Such a glorious sexy beast. ... Read more

I cannot stand the awfully dim Tim on SOS. He's like that irritating t*t Brewer on WD. Id warm to SOS if it spent more time on fuzz and the actual resto.

That said there's a number of car resto channels on You Tube. Nitrosilvia is working on his numerous Rover SD1s and Salvage Rebuilds UK in particular more like the old sytle WD programmes when Edd China was the man.

Typical Daily Mail rubbish, why let facts get in the way of a good story.

The rates for the first year have indeed risen but buyers never see those since they are included in the OTR price. The subsequent years VED is the existing annual rate (+ inflation I think) and there is the extra charge for cars over £40000....

HI, I've got just over half a tank of petrol in my car, which is not getting used daily as it used to be. I'm running it a couple of times a week for 10 minutes or so. Will the petrol be ok for the next few weeks or can it get 'too old' and affect the car? Thanks. Read more

focussed

Petrol is a mixture of organic chemicals, mostly saturated hydrocarbons, with small amounts of additives to improve combustion, plus a few percent of ethanol. These components will have different volatilities, so some will tend to escape faster than others. In a closed tank the mixture will not change noticeably over weeks or months, and in the dark there will be no chemical change either. Petrol would be a much more hazardous material to store if it was liable to spontaneous deterioration.

The only concession I make to fuel 'going off' is to empty the tank on my mower at the start of the winter lay-off - tho that is getting shorter each year .......

The small silver lining is that there has been almost a complete cessation of all the junk e mails. I had in a previous post stated that not even acknowledging them but just deleting them has reduced the flow. However since the virus struck there is hardly any. I wonder if the emails are coming from China or Italy or Spain and their activities have been curtailed due to illness. What a shame, dear me how very sad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What am I going to do for my penis extensions, meeting lovely Russian girls, having my fortune told etc etc.?
