  • Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - oil overfill 3 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Did regular checks the other day and noticed oil overfill. I'd say it is quite significant. It goes above max to nearly the same distance as from min to max marks on the dipstick (so I think it is about 0.7 litres). This however wasn't checked on a completely level ground, so in reality it may be a little bit less.
  • 306 diesel won't rev past 3100rpm... 18 Apr 2007 (Forum)
For some reason the engine won't go past 3100rpm. It flies up to this point, really does. I've adjusted the max fuelling and it has given it a bit more go but it still won't rev past 3100rpm. It feels like I'm hitting some sort of limiter. If I give it max throttle it'll jump when it hits 3000rpm, but if I give it a little and let it accelerate more slowly it will creep up to 3100rpm before it starts jumping.
  • 37 MPH ? 23 Apr 2022 (Forum)
How do you come up with a max speed of 37 MPH for your self driving car.  Apparently it will be coming into law that you can read a book or watch TV in a self driving car.  Experiment to go live on a single lane of a motorway.
  • Which used car has the best mpg? 3 Mar 2017 (Forum)
Hello! I am doing 400 miles per week, which reasonably priced (max 3k?) used can would give me the best mpg? It is mostly motorway miles, 40mph and above. Would a Yaris D-4D would be the best bet? Thanks!
  • Volvo XC60 - Reversing Lights 23 Dec 2014 (Forum)
The reverse lights on my 2009 XC60 are rubbish, I have to drive down single country lanes with NO street lighting and at this time of the year its a nightmare meeting another car and having to reverse. I'm told that legally the max light is 11watts. Anyone got this problem or ideas as to make driving this Volvo easier.
  • How do speedometers work ? 9 Jan 2010 (Forum)
As a layman, have never understood how speedos ( and rev counters ) work . I mean, what keeps the needle on say 30 mph or 1000 rpm - why doesn't it spin to the max and stay there ? guess it's some sort of electric set up but would like a ' proper ' explanation if somebody can be bothered ?

  • Drive like a God 26 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Happened to be in Halfords this pm near the RipSpeed desk and noticed a poster for some kind of advanced driving course for youngsters (Max Drive I think it was). It was captioned Drive like a God. No wonder there are so many who think they are immortal... I suppose I shouldn't question the tag line of what appears to be a very worthy idea...
  • Oil and Filter Change 2 Feb 2004 (Forum)
National Tyres are offering an oil and filter change for £15. The oil is Duckhams QXR (max. 5 litres)semi synthetic and the filter unspecified. How do they do it? Halfords charge £20.99 for QXR alone. A small garage would charge, what, £20/hour labour? At this price , is it worth getting your hands dirty?

  • Which car companies will be left in 10 years time? 20 Dec 2009 (Forum)
With the demise of Saab and others on their death beds and the governments of Europe legislating to make our cars clone-like and fuel efficient above all else I am left wondering who will still be standing in the mainstream in ten years time? I would suggest we might have : One French company (with Nissan); VAG; KIA/Hyundai; Ford (& Volvo?); Toyota (& Subaru?) and Beijing automotive (who I think will be selling us cheap Roewe 75's and the Saab technologies they have just picked up). I wonder where Opel or its offspring might be?
