  Scramble for Cars at Auction Today 24 Jul 2002 (News)
  A 53,000 mile 99T 1.8TS with a/c and alloys made £6,225 and a surprisingly quiet 68,000 mile 99T 2.4JTD billed as a 2.5 V6 sold for £7,000. (It was a JTD.) Focuses still do better than any Ford ever did before. Cheapest of the day was a Radiant red 86,000 mile 99T 1.6 Zetec estate with a tow hook which sold for £3,700. But, not letting the side down, a 68,000 mile 2.0LX four door with a/c and alloys shot straight past its reserve of £4,400 to sell for £4,700, a 79,000 mile 99V 1.8iLX 5-door with a/c and rust in the back window sold for £4,750 and a silly spec 28,000 mile 99V 1.8 Zetec 3-door with neither climate pack nor sunroof bid to £5,750.

  The 2001X, 12,617 mile Mondeo 2.0iLX in the photo bid to £9,900 provisional, which is roughly where the first 9 month old batch of Mk I Mondeos were when Ford released them back in late 1993. A pair of 2001Y Mondeo 2.0DI LX diesels bid to £10,900 and £11,500, so no bargains there just yet. In contrast, Focuses have at last begun to slip a bit.

  Milner, a past winner of the British Rally Championship in a Corolla WRC, will have around 800bhp on tap in the supercharged Celica. The hillclimb course will also provide a rare chance to see the MR2-based Toyota Group S car in action, a prototype rally car from the 1980s that never saw competition after championship regulations were changed. The machine is one of just two that have survived. Juha Kankkunen, one of world rallying’s most successful drivers, will be taking the wheel of a mighty Group B Celica, a version of the car that was specially built by TTE to take part in the Hong Kong – Beijing Rally in 1986.
