Speed cameras in the Scottish Borders may soon be monitored by security cameras to protect them from vandals. It is among the measures being considered by the Lothian and Borders Safety Camera Partnership.

  • Single occupancy cameras 28 Jul 2004 (Forum)
First Safety Cameras, then police ANPR cameras and their cousins congestion charge cameras. Now, single occupancy monitoring cameras. I guess Two Jags\'ll still be okay though, as he\'s usually chauffeured! http://news.bbc.co.uk/media/video/40429000/rm/_40429175_camera07_foster28_vi.ram
  • Tailgating Cameras! 26 May 2004 (Forum)
What next? Undertaking cameras? underinflated tyre cameras? Bad haircut cameras? Not supporting taligating by any means but when will the expentiture onn these mechanical devices overtake the cost of proper poicing?
  • Foiling a speed camera 24 May 2007 (Forum)
So what would happen if I stuck some aluminium foil to a large sheet of cardboard and then waved it in front of a speed camera? Would this trigger the camera? What about strips of foil similiar to those used by aircraft to defect enemy radar? Second question - if the above can trigger the camera what would happen if for example I left strips of foil near the camera just blowing in the wind and randomly setting off the camera, assuming that at some point during the day a motorist speeds past the camera and gets a ticket, would the ticket be invalid?
  • Cameras or Cops? 20 May 2009 (Forum)
I suppose something like this topic has come up before, but I haven't read it as I only look in now and again, so moderator pull it if you want. Okay basically which save more lives speed cameras or more cops on the road? There has been a reduction of police patrols due to the advent of cameras. We know the government and camera partnerships tell us that cameras have reduced the fatalities where the cameras are located, but that's very silly if more people are dying on the roads overall due less police because cameras have replaced them; well actually it's monstrous.

  • Jumped red light: Camera not directly above? 19 May 2009 (Forum)
In theory, could the camera located on the opposite set of traffic lights (legally) be used for the purposes of issuing a penalty charge for the set of traffic lights without any camera? Or are cameras only ever linked to one particular set of lights?
  • M25 variable speed imits & cameras 3 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Regarding the Speed Cameras on the back of the M25 gantries...myth or truth? 1) When the signs are illuminated, the cameras automatically adjust to the prevailing speed 2) The camera behind the FIRST new speed limit is set at teh value of the previous speed limit sign 3) When no speed limit is shown, the cameras are set to 70 (ish) My guesses: 1) True 2) True 3) True Anyone KNOW any different?

  • Digital camera for the glove pocket 5 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Lloyds pharmacies are flogging off a Halina digital camera at £9.99 with all the bits. Cheaper than a throwaway film camera, even if it is only a 640 x 480 pixel picture. Good enough for the purpose. The camera spec is at http://tinyurl.com/buo5e and the Home page has a branch finder.
  • Paired speed cameras more effective? 6 Jul 2007 (Forum)
A lot of villages on main roads in our area have speed cameras. Locals who know the road tend to ignore the 30 limits, braking for the cameras and then accelerating away from them. But one village I've been going through recently has two cameras, one about one third of the way through, the other two-thirds.
  • traffic cameras 25 Sep 2007 (Forum)
we have speed cameras and red light cameras but are there any down the wrong end of one way streets? now that would be a money spinner especially where i live
  • Traffic Cameras 17 Feb 2009 (Forum)
We keep being told speed cameras are safety cameras in places which warrant safer driving. And that they are not revenue raising. Well if that's the case, why don't the government introduce countdown markers leading up to them, thus preventing sudden breaking, and making drivers aware that the cameras are being approached.
  • Specs Camera Exeter Services 6 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Could somebody please confirm if one contacts the local Police Authority to contest a camera NIP and whether the specs camera operating near Exeter Services is programmed at 50 mph (Speed in slip road from the services) or 70 mph for the motorway section within the camera checking section ??

Some "Interesting" comments on this , especially worrying that people don't know the difference between a speed camera and a red light camera. http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/s/1026006_sneakiest_road_camera_revealed

  • Cameras on M4 this morning 7 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Between junction 16 (Swindon) and Jct 15 (Marlborough) on a bridge over the motorway. One camera per lane - cameras on tripods. Are these for catching people with tax and/or MOT or something else?
  • What are these cameras for?! 20 Apr 2009 (Forum)
They look a little like the SPECS cameras (ie there is one camera per lane) though smaller, only one set, painted black, and lower to the ground. I have a deep distrust about any sort of cameras so stick to the limit when passing these just in case.
  • From The telegraph - Police admit using mobile speed cameras are 'like 26 Feb 2014 (Forum)
But he said the police have diminishing influence in local camera safety partnerships, which oversee speed camera use but also include council and health representatives. Scotland’s most lucrative mobile camera site is the A9 Edinburgh to Perth Road, on the northern outskirts of Dunblane, where it crosses Allan Water.
