  I require a little advice on where I stand and how I go about rejecting a second hand car. Story is, I bought a second hand 2001 BMW 530i sport Auto on August the 8th this year with 70,719 miles and paid £2995. 7 weeks and 540 miles later the automatic gearbox has failed,it's lost drive in 3rd and 4th. Had a mechanic recover it this morning to find the issue and he's found teeth from the gears in with the oil and says it needs replacing or rebuilding.

  The dilema I have is that I own a low mileage (owned fron new) BM630i sport convertible on a 2007 plate which is immaculate, always serviced by BMW and runs like a dream. I think the car to sell privately is around 14-15K with Webuyany car offering around 13K. If i kept the car for a further two years how much money would I lose 4-5k, more, bearing in mind that the car depriciated over 35K in the 6 years I have had it?

  The tyres are Continental and even a puncture in the centre is not deemed repairable so I am told. At this point I get nervous! Has anyone any experience of BMW tyre insurance and any reservations about it if tyre is worn etc? Replacement (I would go for Michelin) seems to be around £150 .  Takes me back 30 years or so when these were a new invention on a Mini GT!
• BMW 3 Series Touring - Uneven Wear on Michelin Runflats 26 Feb 2012 (Forum)
   Having now done a further 20,000 miles the noise is reoccurring, with between 4 and 5mm of rubber remaining.  Is this a common problem with Michelin's or is it a combination of Michelin primacy on BMW 3 series.  I have been advised to fit Continental run flats next time, but are they a good alternative or should I consider an alternative manufacturer?  Would it be appropriate to fit different manufacturers tyres on the front and back, or should I always keep to the same type for all 4 tyres?

  Left car running on drive and revved slightly, car then revved out of control on its own, white smoke everywhere, took keys out of ignition and fortunately friend knew to stall car to stop this continuing, arranged for it to go into bmw, car picked up on tow truck, car still running.   Garage have said Dodgy diesel, have receipts and pursuing with petrol station and insurance. Car two months out of warranty also.

  My wife and I recently bought my mother-in-law's car (2001 MkIV Golf, 55K miles - v.clean, good runner) and now want to sell one of our 2 cars - but we are agonising over which to sell: (1) Mine - 1998 BMW 535i V8 Auto (leather seats, tiptronic, 83K miles, leather, walnut etc etc - gorgeous motor but thirsty on the juice (27-28mpg)) or (2) My wife's - 2001 Volvo V40 1.6S (not a lot to be said (!) except low mileage - also 83K).

  I currently have an Audi 80 V6 Cabriolet which I have loved but am keen to sell (see below if interested!) as I need something with a bit more poke. I have never quite got rid of a childhood BMW bug and am very interested in an E36 M3 Convertible. I would be extremely grateful for any thoughts/experiences/warnings you may have about these cars as well as any info on what to look out for, whether or not to have the VANOS eqipped EVO or the standard model and any general views you may have on the convertible version compared to the coupe.

• BMW X5 used off road - shock! 14 Nov 2005 (Forum)
  Had to take a kind of 'bypass' dual carriageway with traffic travelling 70-80mph, plus slower trucks. It was raining and very windy, even though the road runs in a cutting. A BMW X5 came past me at about 80-85mph and pulled in front of a big truck in front. I didn't see exactly what happened in the next few seconds but then saw the X5 shoot across the hard shoulder and up the approx 30-degree embankment.

  Ok, firstly I dont want anyone to start telling me that the compact 4 cyl isnt a "proper BMW", I have bought the car and just need constructive advice please!! I had the 8v GOLF Gti before this car and am amazed at how slow it seems to be compared to the Golf. The engine is bigger at 1.9, 16v and the body I wouldnt of thought is much heavier.

  Hi, Have a 1991 BMW 316i (E36) and have been experiencing wet carpets on the passenger side, both front and back. I suspect the leak is from the front and trickles back since I park on a drive with a slope. However I am not sure it is rainwater leaking form the outside.

  I have a 25,000mls J-reg BMW 518i which has a rather odd problem. Since a new timing belt & exhaust manifold gasket were fitted, as soon as the engine has been running for about 5 mins, there is a very strong smell of burning rubber.

  p.s the dealer "volunteered" to do the infamous nickasil engine change before purchase so I have a new block, pistons and crankshaft, I understand BM are now looking to walk away from this problem. plus the car was given an extra years BMW warranty . All in all the deal I got if you value the warranty at say £500 pa compares exceptionally well with the equivalent car from a place like the GTC (within £700).

  I phone Kwik Fit and suddenly discover that its going to cost at least £55 to get the tracking fixed at a main dealer only! Is this true? Do I have to get the most menial things fixed on my BMW at extortionate rates because I own a nice car?? I am gutted, I knew that some things would need to be done at dealers (and at dealer prices), but I didn't think for things like this. Does anyone know anywhere else that can do this?
