Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Heater temperatures... and pinking... 1.8LX 2001 23 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Give it some gas and it rattles like hell for a brief moment then OK, but by which time I am doing 50 in a 40 limit... I've heard that this can be due to the ECU not getting the right info about the engine temp, so not getting the timing right. Is this a possibility, and might this be linked to the heater blips? Any advice gratefully received, as always. -

Golf MkIV Fuel starvation/throttle issue 5 Jun 2007 (Forum)
He started the car by manually opening the fuel valve. Took it into VW and all they did was reset the ECU. Everything ran fine until last Friday when the engine cut out again. This was as I was changing down from 3rd to 2nd. Couldn't get it started and it was towed back to my house. I got to recovered to a VW garage but before I did that I did manage to get it started. -

I have also run several tank fuels of fuel system cleaner through the engine. A Seat main dealer has also reset the ECU. I would really appreciate any help with this problem. Many thanks -

Is work on these a specialist job, as I know older diesels needed injectors calibrating with special equipment. Cambelt changes required retiming of injection pump too. or does the ECU automatically reclaibrate these things on the newer engines and it is just a matter of fitting the new parts ? Id be thankful of any knowledge about these cars anyone has. -

Went to collect it and he said he had done an emissions test on it with results; HC 5ppm CO:0 C02 14.06 02 1.96 RPM:0 Lambda 1.10 He said the HC should be about 30, 02 about 0.1 and lambda 1 and said my ECU must be on its way out, Do you guys agree with this? Is it a simple reprogramming or would I need a new unit, how much would it cost? Cavalier SRi Ecotec difficult starting 8 Dec 2006 (Forum)
It is also throwing up an engine management light, which the blink test indicates is crank sensor (code 19 Simtec), but this was changed at the last full service (6K miles but 2 years ago)...Not sure relationship of crank sensor to this problem, as if was faulty I assume car would not start at all, or does turning it over several times give ECU enough information to start? It was running fine before it was left standing about. Urgent help appreciated as have long drive ahead -
stolen keys again 4 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Mini has been recovered with minimal damage but effectively we have one missing and one spare set of keys for each car. the Audi was taken away by the insurance company as it was at risk of being stolen by the culprit returning for second dibs. The process of "just getting secure" now involved changing all the locks and some ? ECU reporogramming. Expensive and not covered by the insurance in most policies >£100 or so... Enquiries with the insurance approved garage meet with "bit of a problem, could be up to a month", enquiries with Audi main dealers "not sure how to do this might cost £3000". -

We're feeling slightly miffed about this, an expensive fault developing as a consequence of something that happened within weeks of the warranty end, could the ECU be programmed to fail the coil on cue? (Tongue in cheek). Would you persue a claim or grin and bear it? -

The car is currently driving fine, and I can not get it to replicate the issue everytime?? Also, is there a way of re-setting the ECU without a VAG Com? Any idea's?? futher more (pls note this has always been there) I can here a good whoosing noise from behind the steering/dash...I know t must be the turbo but I can not see any leaks etc....and the car appears to have the pull from the turbo..I mean it is only a 90BHP, but is goes plantly well enough. -

This genuine 37k miles car still burns the same faithful 1 litre of oil per 2000 miles that it always has. I have not yet tried a tank of super unleaded. Of course ignition timing is taken care of by the ECU so I haven't even tried to check it. Can any BRer with experience of the XU7 engine with Magneti Marelli 8P control systems share advice please; is this likely to be a knock sensor problem? I know the difference between knocking and pinking and they are not the same, but given that the car pulls and runs otherwise perfectly well, I can't think what else the problem could be. -

Now... is it likely that although my current problem isnt anywhere as severe, it may be related to the same valve? I remember reading somewhere how to disconnect the ecu for a period of time - apparently this can "re-set" the management system that may fix the problem. Is this likely to help and, if so, could someone tell me where it is located?! Thans in advance guys. -

I have a Vectra 2.0 DTI - 2001 registered. The dreaded ECU/Problem Light has come on. The light comes on once the car has warmed up, i.e. after 10 minutes driving. The light then stays on and the car dramitically looses power. When standing and revved, it will refuse to exceed 3,500 rpm whilst the light is on. -

It then runs and drives perfectly. Ambient temperature is not a problem 22 deg C down here today! I first thought that ECU was retraining itself (after flat battery) but have now done about 50 miles and fault still reoccurs. Petrol is now all fresh. It is worse if car has not been used for more than about 60 minutes. -

Anyway, I cannot get the car over to my trusty Pug Indy for a couple of weeks, but if something relatively inexpensive stands out from a list of known XU7 engine / Magnetti Marelli 8P ECU gremlins, I'm quite prepared to take a chance and fit it myself. Many thanks for any help you can give. -
VW Tdi 110 loosing power 28 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I checked everything except the turbo on this car & in the end decided the problem must lie either with the ECU or turbo. I came accross this info on the web which may be helpfull to others - http://www.technologie-entwicklung.de/Gasturbines/VNT15-Turbo/vnt15-turbo.html . The turbo came off fairly easy which surprised me as all the bolts get exhaust temperature hot. -
BMW 318i hesitation, help!?! 6 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I've taken it to my fall-back mechanic who checked the emissions and determined that the mixture was fine and he couldn't think what it could be. I was thinking maybe the ECU and if so, is it possible to 'reset' it? ANY ideas would be greatly appreciated... Cheers, Steve -

Has anyone any suggestions as to possible faults which could develop in these circumstances. Do lambda sensors deteriorate if not used? Is it worth having my ECU interrogated or is this what I should expect from this model. Thank you for your help SR -
Omega Auto Gearbox Problem 9 Aug 2003 (Forum)
The garage from where I got the car from has had it back and adjusted the linkage but its still doing it! Could it be a ECU fault or is it in fact the gearbox thats faulty. Any other suggestions. P.S. Anyone know what connections to jump to get to the gearbox fault codes? -
Starting Problems on Golf 3 16v 31 May 2003 (Forum)
I've sent it to 2 garges where they did diagnostics but found nothing - one replaced the vacuum hose to no avail, the other couldn't think of anything so cleaned the injectors which did help for a bit. They said they found no fault codes on the ECU. I've changed the HT lead and put a new rotor arm on from the advice of one garage but no difference. The other thing I noticed was that the oil temperature registers at 20C colder than the water temperature dial.
