Renault Auto Gearbox 5 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Its down to the oil cooler that sits atop the auto box - it seems to have corroded and is dumping coolant in the transmission (and vice-versa)... My question is, in this country, and as I never ever tow anything or go flat-out in the thing - does it really need this cooler. I know many cars dont even have one as standard so Im hoping that bypassing it will be a cheap fix to give the old thing some more life. -
Trailers and insurance 3 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Anyone ,directly or indirectly, had experience of problems arising through accidents when trailer's attached. I tow a nearly new medium size goods trailer on a regular basis, all legal, (particularly in relation to car weight ). Must they be 'disclosed'to your insurance co. or are they by virtue of being coupled classed as automatically underthe car insurance? -
Jeep Grand Cherokee 15 Nov 2001 (Forum)
I will be looking at either a late shape(1999 onwards) 4.7L V8 or possibly an earlier 4.0L straight six. I need something capable of towing a car & trailer, with an automatic gearbox and some reasonable luxury. A few years ago I would not have considered buying a vehicle such as this but due to the state of the roads, increasing numbers speed bumps, a bad back and a dodgy left leg I am not left with many alternatives. -
Discovery sunroof 22 Jul 2001 (Forum)
I have 1996 Discovery with usual twin sunroofs. Has done 35,000 used mainly for towing caravan. New sunroof fitted June 1999 because the rubber seal was leaking. Just two years later the new sunroof is leaking again. Told this is a common problem, main dealer are unable to reseal without fitting new roof light. -
VW/Toyota/Ford/Renault - Diesel Vans 7 Jul 2021 (Forum)
We have a static caravan on the Welsh coast, the site also provides services for lodges, towing caravans & tents. It's not a massive site though you see the maintenance people running round in vans, all diesel, with offerings from VW, Toyota, Ford & Renault. They range from 2011 - 2016 & shuffle about the site on very short distances. -
EVs 9 Apr 2021 (Forum)
Just been reading many comments on EVs. One Leaf owner is getting '60 miles in summer, less in winter' 'Will any EV tow my caravan to Cornwall?' 'Price far too high' 'Lithium mines exploiting children' 'Live in a flat or house without a drive, how will I charge the car?' 'range never a problem' 'NE to Brighton regular trip, how would an EV cope with that?' -
Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi Zetec 2009 - Temperature Gauge 29 Aug 2015 (Forum)
Whilst towing the temperature reading will suddenly go from normal to maximum and when I take my foot off it goes immediately back to normal. Ford say they have no record of this fault for this car. The previous fix in 2008 for the same fault only applies to cars 2006/7 and no local main Ford dealer has any record of any car of this year having this fault. -
Maybe why caravans dont overtake 10 Apr 2015 (Forum)
Surely they should be subject to some form of crash/safety testing in this day and age? Caravan towing is borderline dangerous and an over zealous manouver can result in instant disaster as illustrated here Are they all that dangerous or do some makes have better/more sophisticated suspension rather than the basic 1960's design? -
Vauxhall Corsa C 1.2 SXI 52 plate - Gearbox/Clutch - gear selection 5 Nov 2014 (Forum)
My son has a Vauxhall Corsa C - he started to get gear selection problem for 1st & second and a juddering when pulling away. He eventually could not get 1st or second. Tow van now brought car home. I have checked and with the car idling i can select and of the 5 forward gears but when i start to release clutch all 5 gears make a cunching noise. Any comment would be really appreciated - simple fix versus scrap car? -

Vauxhall Zafira 1.6 petrol (56 plate) - failure to start - ignition lights on 19 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Car lost all electrical power whilst driving (except hazard lights and normal lights) - no dash lights ignition etc. There was no warning lights prior to this or hint of a problem. Had to be towed home where a fuse was replaced that gave ignition lights, when trying to crank there is nothing (battery checked by AA and not an issue), AA ran a seperate feed to starter motor and it turned but wouldnt fire up. -
Renault Megane 1.9dci 2004 - Injector Fault 7 Oct 2013 (Forum)
I pulled over onto the hard shoulder and there noticed a lot of smoke and heat coming from the engine bay and the car would not start, and hasn't since. I was taken off the motorway by a tow truck and now I am waiting for them to find out what the problem is. I have looked online but I can't see any similar problems with a solution. Any help would be appreciated! -
Cayenne Diesel S - Ultimate soft roader 13 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Supposedly almost 35mpg combined. All for £58K. Must be cheaper than a RR Vogue-and you won't need to tow a spare car around for when the Rangie breaks down. No hybrid system or having to sit in parsimonious silence at the lights. Does it come without privacy glass? I think i want one! -
Citroen Xsara Picasso - Engine re-map 28 Mar 2012 (Forum)
The main reason I am considering this is that I recently bought a caravan (boo, hiss) and I could do with a little extra power when towing. I plan on keeping the Picasso as it really suits me and the family. Any thought would be appreciated. Cheers Alan -

Nissan X-Trail (2001 - 2007) - 05 2.2Dci Restricted Power 8 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I tow a caravan with my deisel XTrail and when accelerating hard with a heavy load on the car suddenly loses power-as if the fuel flow is being strangled. No mis-fires, no juddering, just a power constriction. -
saab 9-5 2.2 tid 2004 - clutch and/or dual mass fy wheel? 22 Oct 2010 (Forum)
The car has done 90,000 miles. It has never towed. It does do a lot of steep hills! the clutch has started slipping occasionally. Worse in wet weather. Phoning around for prices, some garages say I will almost certainly need a dual mass fly wheel as well. -
honda crv es 1999 - honda crv 1999 4WD 7 Oct 2010 (Forum)
If on ice, it can happen that the front wheels lose grip and the 4WD propells the car in a straight line. On grass, towing a caravan, if a front wheel slips, it tears up the grass, not to the amusement of the site owner. Does anyone know whether it is possible to fit a switch to override the "intelligence" and lock the 4wd in active mode? -
nissan micra 1997 1L - fault code 11 9 Apr 2010 (Forum)
hi everyone, not posted here before and know almost nothing about cars so please excuse my ignorance. I've just been towed home by the AA. There diagnostics machine came up with FAULT CODE 11 - crankshaft position sensor. I've no idea what that is myself but the AA guy said its built into the distributor (and that I will need to replace the whole thing) whilst a DIY mechanic friend thought it was elsewhere on the engine. -
New clamping regime for unpaid Traffic fines(GOC) 29 Dec 2009 (Forum)
If Road Traffic fines remain unpaid the Scottish Courts can now Clamp, tow away and add these costs to unpaid fines................ http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/glasgow_and_west/8433618.stm Large Fines are now imposed for most traffic offences and many go unpaid............losing your car to clampers and towaway may improve the cash flow to the courts.
