Alfa 156 JTD 16V Performance Problem 30 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I have cleaned out the air intake as much as possible (it was filthy), changed the oil&filter, air filter and fuel filter (twice). I've been told the Air flow meter is fine and what it needs is and ECU upgrade. Anyone got any idea's? It's driving me crasy at this stage -
Woe is me... 13 Sep 2005 (Forum)
It's had a new air sensor (167) and a new throttle body (320) and the problem persits. As it is in for an MOT today (which needs a new front bush, circa 164), they have said that the ECU is probably the cause - a whopping 780 to replace!!!! I am sure that it is not economically viable to keep throwing money at it like this, especially when it will have done 92k miles by this time next year (it's just done 70k). -
Pug306HDi - ABS warning light 12 Sep 2005 (Forum)
My question is could a difference in wear of the front tyres (one is brand new the other is nearly at the end of its life so there is probably ~5mm difference (195/55/15)) be enough to throw the sensors as the wheels will be rotating at slightly different speeds? I've booked it in to get the ECU read but just thought it could simply be the tyres. To add further complications the car was involved in an accident recently (some one drove into the side of me - front nearside wheel area took the initial impact) - hub/wheel bearing/suspension etc was replaced so it may be related but I don't want to jump to conclusions yet. -
Rover 214...something - stopped working 31 Mar 2005 (Forum)
He was driving it the other day and it just stopped on the motorway and wouldn't start again. He's been told it could be the fuel filter or the ECU - both pretty much writing off the car as it's done very hogh mileages and both components would cost more than the car. I was wondering if the BR had any other suggestions as to what the problem could be. -
BP Diesel, rough running. Vauxhall Omega 15 May 2004 (Forum)
I\'ve a newish Omage 2.2 DTI that\'s had misfire below 2,000 rmp for the last 10,000 miles. The dealer has tried everything to cure it (new ECU, remove and flush fuel system etc) and I was on the point of getting rid of the car. At the last visit they said avoid BP fuel, which as it happens I almost always use. Something about a high bio-diesel content and a known problem with Ford diesels. -
Unknown modifications and insurance 6 Jan 2004 (Forum)
I hadn't a clue that it had until now (ironically I was getting it chipped because the car was too heavy on fuel!). It seems to have a non standard label on the chip but I know the ecu was replaced when I first had the car so there is an outside chance there is an innocent explanation for a different label to be on there. Since the car could be chipped already I have decided to leave it the way it is for now. -
flashing 'S3', Sterling 827SLi 18 Dec 2003 (Forum)
The car and transmission run great. What could the problem be and what could I do about it? Is there an ECU reset process? I also have other, not so potentially damaging, issues, but I just now found this site. It may or may not be relavant, but the speedometer needle has also just started to occasionally jump around. -
Non-PD 150 bhp Leon? 21 Nov 2003 (Forum)
What I want to know is, was there ever a non-PD version of the 1.9 TDi engine which produced either 130 or 150 bhp, one you could have bought straight out of a European Seat dealership? If so, was this achieved simply by remapping the ECU (chipping), or were other methods used to achieve this, e.g. larger fuel injectors? Or were the 130 and 150 bhp engines only ever available with the Pumpe-Duse technology? The reason I ask is that every so often I still think about chipping my car from 110 to 130. -
Omega Auto Trans Problem 22 Oct 2003 (Forum)
What does the transmission code actually relate to and can this be changed when recon to a different code?. And lastly would the combination of this box and the correct transmission ECU cause the described fault? Many thanks. -

Ok so i have read all the posts here,(this relates to the Archieves) but can i ask about a VW Polo 1997 1.6L Auto, does anyone know about the results if changing its battery,i know that the Radio will have to be reset, but what about the rest of the memory of the ECU?? WILL THIS STILL BE ok?? As the VW isnt mentioned at these posts i hope there is someone who really knows about them. Thanks in advance. Also after reading the Archives will this affect the dual Airbags at all?? -
stalling KA 17 Jun 2003 (Forum)
It always starts first turn of the key afterwards and will tick over fine, but if there is a series of round a bouts on a dual carrageway it will stall at each one. The garage has had it in and can find no faults on the ECU error logs and cleaned some stuff out of the air box intake and adjusted the timing, but this hasn't helped. Other than this it drives fine. The only thing that has changed is that when it was delivered, the oil level came past the max mark on the dip stick (about 50% of min - max). -
Zetec fiesta ignition 13 Jan 2002 (Forum)
If the fault is intermittent will a diagnostic check confirm the fault if it is not actually occurring at the time of the check? Presumably it is not the crankshaft sensor - what next? Is it likely to be the ecu or coil? If so what is the likely cost? Are Ford sympathetic? I have great faith in the back room experts and your usual constructive comments would be greatly appreciated. She loves her Fiesta but is a little disillusioned. -
Mercedes G-wagen 8 Sep 2001 (Forum)
The VW Tristar I bought instead was a fantastic vehicle but had to go when the 2-year warranty expired and I was looking at hefty bills on my own (eg ECU under warranty £1300). Non-dealer Mercedes parts prices I can probably live with for DIY repairs if not too frequent and don't involve baffling electronics. There are usually a few petrol and diesel G-wagens under £6000 and under 100K around with fsh. -
Are cars just TOO fast? 26 May 2005 (Forum)
No appeal. No resale of vehicle at auction. It?s gone. As an added tweak, I would also propose that ecu?s be capable of being remotely shut down by police cars. This would put paid to a lot of chases. Not all, but a goodly number. Next, I would make these ecu?s tamper proof and inspection be part of the MOT. -

Ford Mondeo 2.0 tdci 2017 - oil change message at 7000km 22 Aug 2023 (Forum)
First the guy in the garage poured Total Quartz (which had to be fine for the model) Last year was fine but this year had to change the oil 2-3 times then I blamed the oil and last time used the original castrol from the local ford dealer. The issue is still on. The ECU recalls error message of "oil deterioration". Can this be true ? The mileage is 6500 km and oil was changed like ... last month. Now I reset the oil counter to check if it will light on soon. I go 2-3 times a week for long trips of 300+ km. -
BMW 3 Series Compact - BMW Owned from New to Scrap 11 Aug 2020 (Forum)
Ihave kept detailed records and it was OK to 65k miles but after that began to cost a small fortune each year with repair mainly of the electronic variety. The final straw at 99k miles was a failed ECU which added to other niggling faults made repair uneconomical. The question we are both left with is that our mileage does not justify the cost of a new car but just how reliable are BMWs, Audis and Mercs as they get older? -
Vauxhall Zafira B - AF40 locking into 2nd gear 2 Jul 2016 (Forum)
I have tried the following to fix: New engine oil & gearbox oil, New battery, New thermosat & coolant and coolant level sensor, New fuel filter, Cleaned EGR valve, Replaced engine ECU, Cleaned MAF. OP-COM shows more than 10 errors after this happens and the TCM shows as "not present ???" until the car has been left off for 20 mins, then it's ok. Running out of ideas, could the TCM be faulty? -
Vauxhall Astra 2002 1.6 - Electric Power steering not working 18 Jun 2016 (Forum)
my mechanic said he doesn't have a clue what is causing the problem unless it was it a dodgy wire but the culprit is more than likely the ECU ?! I am very limited on funds due to replacing other parts etc so if it is that then It's game over. Any suggestions would be massively appreciated -
Ford Ka 2001 Endura engine - Ford Ka running rough 23 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Have replaced coilpack, new HT leads, tested injectors (perfect), tried a different idle control valve, throttle body, O2 sensor, throttle position sensor. Even tried a second-hand ECU. Even after all this there has been no change. Clearly I haven't nailed it. Someone suggested I may have a faulty crankshaft position sensor?? I hope someone out there may have experienced similar symptoms and most importantly has a solution to my issue.
