    The seven-speed EDC is standard with the TCe 205 unit in the GT...more of which later. In 2016, the diesel Energy dCi 165 engine, linked to six-speed EDC dual clutch automatic transmission, will also become available in the GT. A ‘Hybrid Assist’ diesel will be added early in 2017 with a fuel economy figure of 94.1mpg and CO2 emissions of 76g/km.
  • Mazda to build a Compression Ignition Petrol Engine with a 35% improvement in economy 8 Nov 2017 (News)
    As part of its Skyactiv-X, the next generation of Skyactiv, Mazda is developing a Spark Controlled Compression Ignition petrol engine. Most of the combustion of the fuel/air is by compression, as in a diesel. But to achieve a stoichiometric ‘lean burn’ air-fuel ratio of 30:1 all the fuel in the combustion chamber needs to burn simultaneously. This is achieved by adding spark ignition.

  • Peugeot 1.4HDI Diesel Now On Sale 7 Dec 2001 (News)
    Peugeot has announced that its new 1.4 litre HDI engine (to be shared with Citroen and Ford) is now on sale with 70bhp in the 307 and will be available with 68bhp in the 206 from January. This new lightweight 98kg engine does not affect the handling of front-drive diesel cars to the extent of the older cast iron bock XUD engines. Fuel consumption on the combined drive cycle is 65.7 mpg for the 206 and 62.8 mpg for the 307. Carbon dioxide emissions levels for the 1.4 HDi 206 and 307 are the lowest in both vehicle ranges: 112 g/km and 120 g/km respectively.
  • Hydrogen powered cars step closer to production reality 17 Jul 2013 (News)
    Alongside the roll-out of these filling stations, Hyundai is ramping up the production of its ix35 fuel-cell electric vehicle (FCEV). It is to build 1000 by 2015 and aims to be able to produce 10,000 from 2015. Hydrogen cars can be refuelled in three minutes and have the same range as petrol or diesel cars, but with water as the only exhaust emission.

  • 'Which?' Challenges Electric Cars Zero Emissions Assertion 24 Feb 2011 (News)
    has compared the carbon dioxide created by charging electric cars with that emitted by the most efficient diesel models and found that sometimes there's not a great deal of difference. The common manufacturer claim that electric cars produce 'zero emissions' ignores the fact that most drivers use a conventional electricity supply to charge them, which has a carbon cost from burning fossil fuels.
  • Can you drive an electric van above 3500kg with a normal licence? 21 Aug 2018 (News)
      The Department for Transport (DfT), which is responsible for the legislation, stipulates that alternative fuel vans must be powered by “electricity, natural gas, biogas or hydrogen or [a combination of] hydrogen and electricity”. Basically, the new legislation applies to vans that are not powered by petrol or diesel and weigh between 3500 and 4250kg.

    Why is it important to you? From April 2018, the first year VED rate for diesel cars will go up by one band, unless the vehicle meets RDE2 standards. For the average diesel on sale this means an increase of around £40 - pushing it up from £165 to £205. The changes will not affect vans.

  • Peugeot 308 'is a green choice' 1 Jul 2009 (News)
    A couple driving a 308 SE HDi 110 recently made a trip round Britain with the aim of using as little diesel as possible. During the 3,700-mile trip, the auto achieved average fuel economy of 126.8 mpg. This was verified by an official from Guinness World Records and even Peugeot admitted to being a little surprised.
  • Fabia Estate picks up green car award 11 Jul 2008 (News)
    The Skoda Fabia Estate has been voted the Best Green Estate Car by the readers of the Daily Telegraph. Sitting in emissions band B, the Greenline vehicle is the most fuel-efficient car that the Czech manufacturer develops. Indeed, it produces 109g CO2 per km and has a diesel particulate filter on its engine and well as greater aerodynamics than other cars in its class.
  • Doblo Gets More Grunt 19 Feb 2002 (News)
    FIAT has announced an uprated diesel version of its Doblo utility which is not only much quicker on the uptake, but also much cleaner. Its 1.9 litre JTD common rail injected engine develops 100bhp (v/s 63bhp of the standard Doblo diesel) and 201Nm (148 lb ft) torque at 1,500rpm.
  • New car registrations increased in October 4 Nov 2011 (News)
    Fleets and businesses took 59.2% of new car registrations in October 2011, up 2.9% over 2010. Diesels continue to be popular, with more than half of all new cars registered running on diesel or alternative fuels such as electricity. The 2.6% overall growth in the number of new cars registered last month is 7% more than the SMMT’s original forecast for the month, but the market remains 20% behind pre-recession levels recorded in 2007.
  • GreenFleet Awards sees Citroen come up trumps 10 Sep 2007 (News)
    Indeed, the firm has commented that three out of the top ten environmentally-friendly vehicles in the UK are Citroens. "Today the company offers one of the most fuel efficient and lowest CO2-emitting product ranges around - over 40 per cent of the company's sales are diesel, with ultra-clean Diesel Particulate Filter Systems widely available," remarked the manufacturers.
  • Peugeot-Citroen Cleans Up its Engines 9 Jun 2010 (News)
      This latest innovation, which delivers improvements of up to 15% in the HDi engine’s fuel efficiency and CO2 emissions, will be deployed on most of the Peugeot and Citroën ranges from late 2010. The Group’s objective is to sell one million e-HDi-equipped vehicles by 2013.
