Volvo XC90 - I could really do with some advice on my Volvo d5 30 Jul 2023 (Forum)
Last month on a journey it started randomly stalling, before dying on me. Would then crank but not fire no matter what. Rac towed to my usual garage. When they got around to looking at it 2 days later, it started and drove without issue. We changed fuel filter and did leak off test at my request. All OK. Fast forward a month.... -
Nissan Qashqui Tekna 2016 - Nissan Qashqui engine failure 11 Mar 2020 (Forum)
The RAC arrived about an hour later and ran the diagnostic on the car which suggested the turbo had a fault. He towed me to a local RAC approved garage. They called the next day to say the couldn't see a problem wthout taking the engine out and stripping it down - they said it would be £850 just to take engine out and then who knows - they suggested £2000 approx for the job if it was the turbo. -
ford galaxy 2.3 ghia t reg - galaxy won't start. going crazy and need help 11 Dec 2019 (Forum)
The aa came out and kept trying and they found there was no power to the fuel pump switch (ineartha). towed it to a ford dealers in bishops stortford and they had it for 18 days. They removed the aftermarket alarm and checked the relays. the car now doesn't even turn over but this could be the battery cos nothing works in the car now. -
Ford Fiesta 1.6 TDCI - Turbo died 10 days after purchase 1 Sep 2015 (Forum)
They keep saying their company is too new and they don't have the resources to fix it at their expense and that I'm getting a good deal by paying half of it because they will tow it to the garage at their expense and they will fit a new cambelt too which is not part of the problem. At this point I told them I want a repair at no extra cost to me, a compensation for the cost of the repair and I will repair it at another garage or a full refund. -
Peugeot 407 SW - 1.6HDi No Power, Black Smoke 18 Aug 2015 (Forum)
Hi I have the above vehicle and am having a few issues, here is the story: I bought the car as a non runner, after towing the vehicle home I put a new battery on it and it started first time!!!! However when driving it had no power under 2500-3000 revs. After a few days of driving it lost all power and would not rev over 2000-2500 rpm, it did not even have enough power to pull away on a fairly flat road, I also got the "anti pollution fault" message. -
Peugeot 206 - Hitting a lorry tyre on the M6 19 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I have tried to claim through the lorry drivers insurance because its clerly not my fault in the slightest and they say nothing can be done as its just a blown tyre / act of god. Now i am a lot of money down after getting my car towed, taxis to liverpool, and being stranded in liverpool for a few days. im sure there is someone to blame to claim from. I am third party fire and theft so i cant claim on my own, but i wouldnt want to anyway as i know its not my fault, and it wouldnt of happened had that lorry not been there. -
Mazda 6 - DCS and ECU Light On, EGR Valve problem, then big 24 Dec 2011 (Forum)
I drove back to the dealer and they said it must be big damage in the engine and suggested that I might need a new engine which would cost me £8k++. I towed my car to my local garage, get them to strip the engine and found that the cranshaft is gone. I have ordered a recon engine from ebay, new clutch kits and new dual mass flywheel. The biggest anxious question is " Have I sort out the root cause that caused my engine to damage at the first time?? -
Suzuki Grand Vitara - Grand Vitara 1.9ddis buying advice - dpf concerns 15 Aug 2011 (Forum)
It doesn't really fit our lifestyle either now the kids are growing up - we regularly go to country shows and walk/cycle/camp - usually using our second car, my Jimny especially to tow a trailer with the bikes in as its just more suitable for rough fields and car parks but we're at our absolute maximum with 4 of us in it. We're both sold on the GV having owned 2 Suzukis already and looking at one locally but the only concern i have is that the internet is rife with tales of DPF issues with the renault engine. -
1999 R reg Chrysler Grand Voyager 3.3 LE LPG - Chrysler Grand Voyager 3.3 LE LPG help wanted... 10 Jun 2010 (Forum)
It would be a shame to sell this vehicle as sc*** because I only hd it for a few weeks before these problems started. If anyone who knows these cars has a garage, I could get the RAC to tow it for me. Thanks in advance. -
used car with many issues 17 Jan 2010 (Forum)
They cleaned the carpet and replaced the water pump. After picking the car up the following weekend, the car broke down. I got the RAC to tow the car back to the dealer. I told the dealer it still smelt and the RAC said the thermostat had failed. I left the car for the week. They fixed the thermostat and cleaned the car again. After another week, I picked the car up. -
Suggestions for a motorvan. 12 Oct 2009 (Forum)
We don't want a Couch built as we would like to keep the size down and our presence small. We were going to tow a trailer with 2 motorbikes(kTM dukes) on but it would make it all very long and limit are access to the more remote places and possibly be a real pain from a maneuvering point of view We have up to £20K to spend We think it needs to be less than 10years old as it makes breakdown cover more available ?? -
Ford Galaxy (2006 - ) - Total engine failure after 27k, Ford won't pay 5 Oct 2009 (Forum)
For 2,000 miles it was great. Then last week after 3 months , the engine started vibrating and rattling badly. The AA towed me to London to a Ford dealership. They called me the next day to say that the car wasn't under warranty after all, because the first service was not done within 12,500 miles, and if the engine problem was due to the oil not being changed back then I would be liable. -
Volkswagen Passat (2005 - ) - 2005 2.0TDI Oil Pressure Warning Light 13 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I've Googled that error code and as it suggests, it's simply a dodgy glow plug. I'm finding it very hard to get a tow to the local VW garage which is just 2.7 miles away and I'm wondering if anyone can shed any more info on what could be the cause of these symptoms, and whether it would be ok to drive to the dealership. -
Taxed but DVLA say not 21 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem and found anyone of help at the DVLA. The other day a DVLA van clamped my car whilst they called for a tow truck, guy said the car was showing as untaxed. On noticing that it did appear to have a valid tax disc he removed the clamp and advised I move it before the truck arrived and then ring the DVLA. Phoned the DVLA, what a helpful bunch of people, I explained that I had personally bought the tax through one of their post office agents three months before, had been given a receipt at the time and could supply the name of the PO and the disc number. -

Estate help 14 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I've been looking at Parkers, Whatcar and this website and think I should be looking at (in order of preference) Ford Focus 1.8TDCi, 2) Skoda Octavia 1.9 Elegance (it's 110bhp, I think the Ambiente at 90bhp may be a little underpowered as I may buy something to tow in a few years) 3) Vauxhall Astra (if I can get a new shape in my budget). I also love the look of the Renault Megane 1.9 dci but am worried by the reliability score. I wouldn't touch a Pug 307 for the same reason. -
Woeful Suzuki Cusomer Service 30 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Of course, they had no loan car so I had to loose two days of business just to add to delight at how they had handled it all. You know what really annoyed me though? It was literally a small amount of corrosion on the two tow hooks and couldnt have been more than £50 worth of work at the very most. Atleast the quality of the work done was very good. For this I had to wait 15 weeks. I was right to be upset wasnt I? As a result, I will not be lining the pockets of my very local dealer and instead, taking my van to a dealer some 15 miles away. -
SAAB 9-5 Aero reverse gear baulks 22 Sep 2005 (Forum)
No apparent damage to the V70 - even to floor pan - beyond some of the SAAB's number plate reflective film on the tow ball cover. -
Rover 216si Gasket Problem 10 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I took the car back to the garage, who advised me that it was more than likely an air lock, which he 'corrected' I drove back down to Leeds where I live, only to gt 30 miles, for my thermostat to rise/drop again. Eventually I had to be towed all the way back to Leeds via Green Flag, who advised it may be another air lock as well as many other things. I have asked a local garage to look at my car tomorrow to check for me, but I am just wondering if anyone has any suggestions what they feel the problem may be. -
Why I like these forums 14 Nov 2003 (Forum)
He also said that I would have definately bent valves and be looking at an expensive repair. I had the car towed home and it sat in the garage for a month or two while I thought about if I should scrap the car (spares are very hard to find) or repair it. I local garage had replaced the clutch on our other car and when I picked it up I spoke with the mechanic to see what he thought.
