  • 306 noise when cornering 11 Apr 2005 (Forum)
my lad has just bought his first car a pug 1.4 306, the car runs well enough but we have some problems to solve, first one is when the car is cornering a knocking noise can be heard from the front of the car, lve checked the wheel bearings - no play and the wheels spin freely enough with no apparent noise, l then jacked the front of the car up and turned the steering from side to side there is a knocking/grinding noise coming from the top of the suspension mounts one side louder than the other, could this be the noise when driving the car?
  • Poorly Ford :-( - Rear end shunt - advice please 9 Aug 2013 (Forum)
There are traffic lights on the roundabout and they had been on red so I wasn't going very fast as I pulled onto the dual carriageway. A lorry had pulled out on the entry slip in front of me, and the exit was obscured by his trailer so I stayed slow. I indicated to leave the roundabout and there was a car in front of me with normal rear lights displayed. I presumed that it was making forward momentum the realised tha tthis was a parked car, one cars length from the roundabout on the inside lane of the dual carriageway.
  • BMW 3 Series {N617 SJS} - An unknown vehicle parked in front of my house 26 Oct 2015 (Forum)
The car with the above plate number has been parked in front of my house for the past three weeks. I live in a terraced house in Dagenham and own a car. My next door neighhbours have two cars each and we have always tried to respect each other by not parking in each other parking space, except when absolutely necessary.

I bought a car from a small 'prestige' outlet three weeks ago and have been faced with purchasing new front disks and pads together with 2 front parking sensors - which were faulty when I purchased it - but I didn't notice!

  • Citroen Picasso xsara - Citroen Picasso HDI Fan blower, no 12v 11 Nov 2015 (Forum)
Is there some sort of control unit that has failed? I can adjust the speed of the fan on the panel, the heat doesn't seem to adjust? The car has a/c if that helps.
  • Jaguar X Type 2002 - Engine smell 2 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Recently they wanted to check the transfer case oil level as there is a winter only oscillating grinding noise from the drivetrain 270E Since then there is burning plastic like smell from the engine, the temperature is half on the guage and the car seems to heat up super fast in the space of only 8 minutes. They refuse now to look at the car because they are no longer Jaguar dealers, but can only work on new vehicles under warranty. (something I was told of just prior to the last visit.) but they agreed to take it.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 01 1.4 Engine Warning Light 26 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I recently purchased a 2001 Ford Focus after knowing there was a potential problem as when i started the car, there was a "rattling" noise under the car. This could have been a Loose Heat Shield or even worse the KAT. I took it to KwikFit and it turned out to be the KAT... So, they fitted a new one and within 2 hours of driving, the Engine warning light came on.
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - Dents/kinks in radiator - Causing overheating ? 23 Aug 2007 (Forum)
The radiator on the new car looks like is in bad condition with kinks and dents in it, as there is no coolant loss as far as I can tell could this be what is causing the slight over heating problem? (see previous sensor post for background, I don't want to repeat stuff here) this is a general question btw, the car is being looked on Friday by mechanic.
  • Renault 5 (1996) radiator prob 23 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Recently my Renault 5 1996 Campus has started to have what I may be heating problems. The problem seems to be around the radiator overflow container. On journeys where I do not have to idle such as motorways, the car is fine. However if there is heavy traffic and I am idling for a extended time, smoke comes out of the bonnet and there is a bubbling noise from the overflow container, which is very hot to touch.
  • Thermostat missing from my '98 Escort 6 May 2007 (Forum)
It was overheating slightly, ie the needle would go to red whilst driving around town, but as soon as we hit 50/70 it would go to normal. And there was no heat in the car. Thermostat I thought. So today began the task of raplacing, NO THERMOSTAT THERE !! How could this be... why would someone do this, Have i missed a 'trick of the trade' to make the car drivable for a bit and hide another problem.

  • Audi 80 1995 2.0E ABK, Is it my clutch? 6 Oct 2005 (Forum)
It only happens during a journey, not from cold. The clutch is hydraulic. The gear change is fine and the car pulls OK. Is it possible that the release bearing lever is knocking on the slave cylinder rod? And if so, what does this mean? I have looked underneath the car and everything seems OK although it is a noise that sounds like a heat shield knocking but found nothing amiss.
  • Laguna 94 with lukewarm heater airflow. 18 Oct 2002 (Forum)
If I stop the fan for a few minutes then turn on again it its much hotter for a few seconds then lukewarm again. It also takes a bit of time from a cold start to get any heat whatsoever. There is no aircon on this model of car. I have replaced the thermostat, and having looked back over the vehicle service history, see that the heater matrix was replace already. Is this possibly the cause again, or is there anything else I could try?

  • Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 01 1.8 Running very rough - electrical issue? 22 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I didn't really expect much as the plugs weren't that old, but I had found that the leftmost plug (as you look at the car from in front) was quite dirty and carbon'd up. I also tried using redex for a couple of weeks but that similarly did nothing to help. I don't think it's a compression issue as once it's fully warmed up it improves a lot (though it's still not perfect) and will accelerate hard away from lights etc as it always did.
  • MR2 - Tyre problem 9 May 2001 (Forum)
She then took the car to the Toyota dealership and they performed a 4-wheel alignment test and discovered that the front wheels were out of alignment. However, although the dealership have done this, she is still worried that there may still be an underlying problem because of the nature of the wear on the tyres.
