  • Vauxhall Omega blowing cold air only ! 21 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I read a topic with a similar problem regarding a vauxhall carlton, but i dont think these have the automatic heater controls (which I suspect it may be in this case as it just stopped working over night) what things could be causing this? Cheers
  • Cruise control at 30mph 19 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Re. the query about using cruise control on an automatic in a 30 mph zone (in a recent HJ Telegraph column). HJ advised this was bad for the car. Can someone please tell me why? Surely CC holds it in the same gear as you would otherwise at a given speed (in an auto).
  • 500 bhp Laguna 13 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Flicking through some road tests on The Indpendent web site and I came across this brief description of the Laguna estate :- Renault Laguna Sport Tourer 2.0T: £21,645 Supercharged, front-mounted 500bhp V8 makes this a near-dragster, helped by ultra-responsive automatic gearbox, and folding metal roof is neat. Very desirable. I didn't realise the Laguna was such a powerful motor...... should have got one of this for the same price as my new Outback ! jd
  • Rover 400 Rear Screen Heater 20 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I think the switch and relay are okay. Is there an electronic device that sits between the switch and relay that determines when to automatically switch the thing off (after 15mins, I think)? If so, where is it and how can I test it? Any ideas? Cheers, John.
  • golf stalling problems 7 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I have a mk 1 golf 1.5 automatic. It's a 1979 model. Problem is that the car stalls when it comes to a halt. This is only a problem in the first few minutes of driving. It restarts with no problem and then never cuts out once warmed up.
  • M25 variable speed imits & cameras 3 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Regarding the Speed Cameras on the back of the M25 gantries...myth or truth? 1) When the signs are illuminated, the cameras automatically adjust to the prevailing speed 2) The camera behind the FIRST new speed limit is set at teh value of the previous speed limit sign 3) When no speed limit is shown, the cameras are set to 70 (ish) My guesses: 1) True 2) True 3) True Anyone KNOW any different?
  • Citroen XM 2.0i 1993 Suspension 26 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Dealer has confirmed no output from the Hydractive suspension ECU (H3 Version) to the front and rear electrovalves in the automatic mode. Would appreciate any help with regard to Citroen electrical wiring diagrams and trouble-shooting advice, especially pin-out details to the black and white 15-way plugs connected to the suspension ECU.
  • Engine Failure 11 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I have an automatic V6 Mondeo which was having starting problems. I put it in the garage and a new starter motor was fitted which made no difference. I took it back to the garage and they fitted a new flywheel assembly.
  • RDS car radio clock 1 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Can any of you well-informed guys help me out? On a day trip to France the other day the RDS clock on my radion automatically set itself to european time; but it has notably failed to re-set itself on return to the UK. The BBC web site SAYS that they broadcast a time signal on RDS, so why aren't I picking it up? I've tried Radio2 and Radio 4 but no joy on either.
  • Volvo 960 cutting out 15 Nov 2001 (Forum)
my 1993 Volvo 960 automatic (140000miles ) has been hitherto trouble free. Now it has started to jrrk when stopped in traffic ( like a sudden power surge ) and, worse, the engine can suddenly cut out when cruising. Switching to neutral and restarting the ignitiongets it going again but its scary to cut out at 70mph on the motorway.
  • Left Foot Braking 19 Jul 2001 (Forum)
interesting article on the vw tech bulletin site - many vw's now have fly by wire throttles (no accelerator cable). The software has been programmed, on Automatics only, such that touching the brake pedal causes the engine speed to drop to idle (over-riding the throttle position). Apparently this is a bit of a problem for left foot brakers who tend to gently rest their left foot on the brake pedal during slow manouvres whilst trying to increase engine speed with their right.
  • Renault Clio E-tech hybrid - Impressions after the first 1000 miles 21 Apr 2024 (Forum)
I had been considering downsizing to a smaller automatic car for a while. After seeing the new generation Clio at my local Renault dealer, I arranged a test drive of the E-tech version and decided to get one. My verdict, Love it. Quick off the mark, pulls away in electric mode, engine fires up seamlessly when needed, nice smooth auto box that 'creeps' at low speed just like a torque convertor transmission.

  • Nissan Qashqai+2 - Finally traded my Tino in 1 May 2018 (Forum)
Done a few posts here over the last year and my choice of replacement for my 1.8 Tino automatic varied wildly. Went for this from local Nissan dealer. In the end 7 seats was something we really wanted and as my wife’s family are flying over this week then it was decision time. It’s got the 1.6 CDi Renault start stop engine which Honest John seems to rate.
  • Peugot 206 - Lights turn themselves on at random (not Auto!) 7 Jan 2016 (Forum)
This first occurred 2 or 3 years ago and he took it to a local independent garage. They thought it might be the automatic lights and said they had disabled them. Well, as far as I can see the car does not have automatic lights, and never has, and the fault remained! It cleared itself some weeks later. The fault has now recurred.
