Skoda Octavia DSG Wait 28 Feb 2005 (Forum)
An internet dealer was quoting UK sourced cars with only 12 week delivery and nearly a grand off the price. Added to that he was knocking 2k off the price of SWMBO's CRV because it was an imported car. Despite being built in Swindon to UK spec and having a Cert. of Conformity. I'm not a happy bunny. -
£5k Mondeo from auction 22 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Ideally I am after a Ghia X, either a 2.0 or a 2.5 V6, no preference. Would love a TDCi but they will probably be out of budget. Condition is important. Would like a nice one, not a shed. So then guys, what can I expect for £5k? How old am I looking at, and what sort of mileage? I'll probably be contacting Joe Dowd the auction buyer and asking if he can source one from BCA. -
Unfortunate consequences ! 13 May 2004 (Forum)
A good mate of mine popped round last week to show my his spotless imported Toyota Previa. He was proudly telling me about the impressive list of gadgets/gizmos and then his tone changed as he mentioned the rear parking sensors. Apparently whilst manoeurvring the alarm sounded and he checked in the mirror to see a lamp post about a foot to the side of the tailgate. -

New Fiesta Zetec 25 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I was thinking of asking the Ford dealer to match/beat the lowest internet price, plus an allowance of £350 for the insurance i.e. £8450 (jamjar @ £8100 ish.) I don't want an import, for fear of difficulty in selling it on in 4 years or so. Many thanks for all help received. -
Micro scratches - any remedy? 17 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Toad Toyota has been very carefully polished with freshly washed dusters and the best of non-abrasive polishes available to me with very good effect except that, if the light and the viewer are aligned in the right - or wrong - way, numbers of fine scratches can be made out, presumably due to application of abrasive polishes or inadequately clean cloths back in Japan or perhaps in the course of preparation by the importers. Rather than make any further attack on the metallic finish with abrasives I feel that something which would form a smooth film over the surface is indicated; old-fastioned Simoniz (Motorists wise Simoniz!) -
Ferry costs. 4 Aug 2002 (Forum)
Im importing a BMW 3 Series diesel from Germany soon and will be bring the car back on the Cruxhaven (Hamburg) to Harwich route. The dealer is taking the car by trailer to the dock so I don't need transit plates. -

I understand it is possible to get a device that will display the number of a potential caller who is recieving the engaged signal so you can decide if the call is important enough to interupt the HJ session. David -
VW 1.8t 20v 16 Dec 2001 (Forum)
The car went in for a 30k service today to VW Main Agents and sure enough the diagnostic printout showed a fault on the coolant temp sensor. The garage replaced this FOC even though the car is 21 months old and a personal import with a 12 month garantee. However driving it home the temp still didn't get up to normal after 10 miles. (outside temp was +1C). Any advice please on how long it should take to reach normal and what the problem might be? -
Landrovers & David's question.. 15 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Although there are a fair amount of Cherokees around. Other than that, not many big 4wd of any nationalities. (import tax for a used car here is 105% of its new value, irrespective of current age/value). Most cars around are beaten up european or GM (vauxhall) saloons. Chile - Some real landrovers, loads of Discos and absolute tons of Freelanders. -
A class servicing 6 Sep 2001 (Forum)
honest johns comments in saturdays telegraph motoring suppplement spot on about high prices of oil etc to make some rich and feel important. To keep my mobilo life warranty my a class needs the MB stamp at service time but no one said it had to be a MB uk stamp. So i have it serviced in france get the stamp and all for half price. The local dealer does not want even to discuss discount on servicing even though under the fairly bulletproof mobilo life warranty he would be likely to have to do the work if anything goes wrong though to date the car has been bullet proof with 82 mpg obtained recently in france!! -

Can a taxi pick you up on a motorway? 13 Dec 2022 (Forum)
Hello all, Just wondering if in a break down on a motorway in the UK and you have something important you need to get to, do you have to wait for a pick up truck to arrive or can the pick up truck just pick up your car without you being there? Also if broken down on a motorway can and no way to get to where you need to be, ie no friends who can pick you up, can a taxi pick you up on a motorway or will a taxi driver refuse? -
Subaru Impreza WRX STI type r v3 - Non fault claim ( cash in lieu ) 14 Jul 2021 (Forum)
Hi, my car was sideswiped by a bus (first bus) they have admitted liability act I have used accident management company to deal with it all but I have came across stumbling block the parts for my car are NLA due to the age and type of the car (Japanese import) the engineer valued my car between £21000 to £25000 and the cost of damage has come to £5000 my door is a total mess also the wing wheels front bumper ect My car is completely original with 80k on the clock they were saying something about cash in lieu payment where I would get the repair money and the car back, this option is no good for me as I will never be able to repair the car especially the door as they are only made for the type r What options do I have here any advice would be great. -
The mrs wants a car 11 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Er indoors, has decided she needs a little runaround, something small, now obviously with all the lockdown business it won’t be anytime soon, so I’d thought I’d ask on here what you guys think, the budget should be around 3k, I say should cos she’s paying, but cheaper would be better, mileage will be low as it would be mainly used as an urban runaround so no motorway use, and it goes without saying, petrol not diesel, so she likes suzuki splash, or the Vauxhall agila, not sure what the difference is apart from the badge ayago, Citroen , Peugeot, I know these are identical cars but which one, now she wants as new as possible ( given her budget) so I know the swift would be recommended, but the few we’ve seen on auto trader are probably a bit long in the tooth for her, now the final bit...reliability, which of these would be the most reliable in your opinion?, and I know condition is more important than low mileage but if it’s average then it should be ok, -

I wouldn't mind upgrading pistons/rods/whatever else to get a tiny bit more power but it's not super important. Any advice and resources and reading materials are appreciated. Thanks all -
Toyota Camry 2019 22 Jul 2019 (Forum)
I was passing the Toyota dealer today and saw that they had a 2019 Camry in stock so I have been waiting to see one so I popped in.First impressions were good.It looks very handsome but on closer inspection I became less impressed. The centre console bin moved when I opened the lid and it seemed to flex excessively. When the drivers door was open, you could see the wings bolted rather poorly and badly finished. I spoke to the salesman who went on to tell me that only 400 are being imported into the country and the price is £32,000!. If only 400 are coming in then I would be worried about getting spare parts for it in the future especially if you had an accident and needed body panels. -
Discussion on Downsizing engines for emissions. - 1.0 and small ecoboost engines 2 Nov 2017 (Forum)
This can lead to very heavy knock, which can in turn cause catastrophic damage in only a few engine cycles. LSPI is especially important for pistons and connecting rods because they are rising when the aberrant combustion event occurs. In the most severe cases, LSPI can lead to broken piston rings, damaged pistons and bent connecting rods. -
Review: Joie Spin 360 1 Oct 2017 (Forum)
Another drawback of this seat is that it's permanently fixed so you won't be able to unclip and use as a carry seat. Beware of that if it's important to you. Sorry I can't be more positive about this product but I am absolutely livid at this point having bought the seat months in advance and only realising this dangerously flaw on installation.
