  • Deactivating Passenger Airbags 17 Sep 2003 (Forum)
So much for the "ideal family car" they advertise.... Does anyone know of a reputable, liability-insured, company that will do the work for me? I live in Surrey Thanks
  • Alfa Spark Plug nightmare! 3 Dec 2001 (Forum)
I visited the Science Museum today. They have an interesting display of old cars and a number of cutaway engines - including the current 2.0 16v 4cyl and 3.0 24 V6 units. My question is HOW on earth do you change the spark plugs - they appear to be burried at least 6" below the rocker cover.
  • Electric failure (temporary) Merc 11 Oct 2001 (Forum)
I have 1998 C class Mercedes estate 1800, auto, which is great - except that while my wife was driving in France there was sudden electric failure covering windscreen cleaner, turn flashers, and door s were unlocked. A friend with an E class said a similar thing happened to him. With my own car it was the second time it has happened - but without any attention all is now ok.... any ideas or has anyone else the same problem?

  • Warranties 3 Feb 2001 (Forum)
I haven't taken that up - are there any recommendations of third party 'warranty' products like this to give me reasonable cover for less than this, or am I being a cheapskate? Does anyone have good or bad experiences of such products? I've heard horror stories of policies not paying out on repairs if the car misses the service interval by tiny amounts, for example.
  • Toyota Aygo - Toyota 10 Year Warranty - Suspension 5 Dec 2024 (Forum)
If I had a 2 year old car with say 20,000 miles on the clock and the suspension failed, I think I could get it repaired under warranty. The car has always been serviced by Toyota to fulfil the terms of their 10 year warranty: https://www.toyota.co.uk/content/dam/toyota/nmsc/united-kingdom/owners/warranty/toyota-warranty/toyota-warranty-ts-and-cs-june-2022.pdf The car is 7 years old and has 47,000 on the clock.
  • Vauxhall corsa D 2008. 1.2 petrol - Immobiliser issue 25 Jul 2023 (Forum)

  • Nissan Almera 2003 No way to unlock my car when ? 24 May 2020 (Forum)
With a set of jump leads in the boot I thought now problem. Until I realised the is no way to get into the car as it has no manual key locks. I search the net and people spoke about one on the passenger door. But not on this model. There is no hole or cover. In the end I have to undo the back windows using a piece of metal and climb into the window as the door won't even open with a pull handle on the inside.
  • Paugeot 207 - Used car dealer warranty 25 Jul 2013 (Forum)
It's an 07 plate with 65,000 miles and was sold with a 3 month dealer warranty. She noticed a noise from the clutch today and took the car to a Peugeot dealer to look at. The diagnosis is that the thrust bearing is failing and should be replaced - with the whole clutch needing to be replaced at the same time. She has contacted the selling garage who says that replacing the bearing may be covered by the warranty, but the whole clutch certainly won't be.
  • Ford Focus (2003) - Wheel Bearings on Focus 17 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Hi, I've had my car for close to six months now, during which time I've had to replace one wheel bearing (bought the car second hand, and this was covered by the garage I bought it from) on the driver side, and had a curious issue with the electrics - but now the passenger side wheel is beginning to make an all too familiar noise when driving, so, before I get this bearing replaced as well - I wondered if Focus' are well known for needing new wheel bearings so often?
  • Used Hyundai i30 - what are the risks? 7 Sep 2010 (Forum)
We're considering a used i30 diesel auto which has done around 32k miles in its 12 month life. Assuming a full service history (which I'll check!), the car should have nearly 4 years manufacturer's warranty remaining. 1. If the car has been used for load-lugging, for example, could there be any downsides or risks, which we would not be covered for under the remaining warranty?
  • 2002 focus 1.6 zetec - ford focus burning smell 9 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Can anyone assist with an occasional problem with my 2002 1.6 Focus zetec. The car has covered 125000 and usually runs perfectly but just lately the steering wheel sometimes wobbles at 50mph plus and after stopping there is a strange almost burning smell around the car. This cannot be smelt from inside.
  • No FM/AM by 2012 19 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Sorry if this has been covered today... I've just heard on 5Live that both FM and AM radio are to be switched off by 2012 and everyone will need some kind of DAB receiver to listen to the radio. Now I don't know how many new cars are being produced with DAB in them or as an option but I suspect that there will still be plenty of 3+ year old cars knocking around by then relying on good old FM/AM.
  • Skoda Octavia II (2004 - ) - In car security - safes, boxes? 23 Mar 2008 (Forum)
In about a month's time they are going to drive (leisurely) to their villa in Bulgaria where they will stay till Oct and come back. Their route has been dictated by what countries their insurance will cover them for! Anyway, I suggested that they should maybe consider buying an in-car "safe" for keeping documents, valuables in as they are in effect going to take 4 weeks to travel there. Anyone bought such a thing?
  • Spotted a bargain from a dealer! 17 Feb 2008 (Forum)
or perhaps the car doesn't fit in with the sort of car they sell and they want to get rid of it quick? Then again if it seems to good to be true....
  • Change 1 Shock Absorber or 2? 19 May 2005 (Forum)
It was not right from the moment they changed it. Ended up getting a 4 wheel alignment done as they recommended, which was all done at my expense. Car now drives as you would expect on decent flat roads, but on rough ground or over man hole covers you feel the car twitch. I think this has something to do with my front nearside tyre wearing excessively more than the rest of my tyres.
