  • Subaru Forester - The answer is a Subaru Forester... But tow weight? 6 Nov 2018 (Forum)
2008 2 ltr with a tow bar already fitted and I will see exactly how it looks like tomorrow morning but looks very clean on the pictures. Long MOT and apparently a service history. We can buy it outright and take our time selling either the big van or the family car. I just want to ask about towing. We have a 750kg unbraked trailer that we will be using for bee keeping and general moving about of equipment.
  • "People carrier"- as opposed to...? 23 Sep 2016 (Forum)
"Able to transport people and/or luggage": Barring two-seaters, wowee, show me a car that doesn't do that! In Spain a legal quirk provides the category "Mixto" ("combination") for large vans and some cars like the Chrysler Voyager, which can be registered for the first four years as a "trade" vehicle (lower VAT and lower top speed, but six monthly MoT tests), regardless of numbers of seats or actual usage, and then re-classified.
  • Accuracy of Parkers 20 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I am shortly having to sell my Legacy GLS Estate (my third) due to purchase of new business which necessitates running a commercial. The purchase includes a sign written van so I need to sell privately within the next 4 to 6 weeks. Parkers guide recommends £3025 for a private sale and £3295 from a main dealer. However, my local dealer has a 97 P on the forecourt at £4995!!
  • Bumpers and o/s trim for 96 Trafic 23 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Hi Does anyone know a good cheap source for second hand bumpers, plastic bonnet trim and NSR light Cluster for my 96 Renault Trafic in the Westcountry, or even nationally, where delivery is not a problem? This van appears to be in shockingly good condition with the exception of these and a few minor dents. As it is being kept as a domestic pet, I wouldn't mind lavishing a bit of attention on it. Obviously the top of my priorities is a full service and pre MOT inspection including a cambelt change.
  • FIAT Doblo Cargo - Shaking on acceleration in all gears 7 Feb 2014 (Forum)
The best they could suggest was to try replacing the N/S driveshaft completely, though as I say the inner CV joint is new. I think they were stumped. The van passed its MOT back in December with no advisories (the wobble was evident at that stage and I had a local garage inspect the front underside prior to the MOT test). Sooooo... If anyone has managed to take all of this info in, and has any idea where I should investigate next, please chime in and I'll try to get this van back on the straight and narrow.
  • Brief Skoda Citigo test 16 Dec 2015 (Forum)
When SWMBO's Saab was in for a service and MOT we were lent a Skoda Citigo. It was a 3 door with dairly basic spec, so suspect it was the 59 bhp version. For:- Reasonably nippy Light, precise steering and gearchange Quite refined, but...........see 'Against' Most controls had that lovely VW quality feel Tight turning circle Plenty of stowage space Had the feel of a larger car Clearly laid out dashboard, instruments even included a small revcounter Tailgate closed softly, lovely quality feel   Against:- Very thick A-Pillars, enough to hide a Transit van when exitting a side road Dashboard looked rather like a cliff face Heated rear window switch, with warning light, masked by steering wheel Choppy ride on uneven surfaces ...... a bit too much road noise for my liking along with..............
  • Steyr Daimler Puch - A testimony to German Engineering 29 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Our 1998 SDP 290GD Van has been sitting parked up in a grass field since Feb 2013, I sliped(i.e. dragged) her out, unstarted (& not the slightest sign of sticking brakes at all btw) sometime earlier this summer with the tractor, and left her parked up on concrete, nonetheless grass was still growing out from the bottom of the drivers door, today.
  • Fiat Doblo Cargo - Smoking when cold 10 Apr 2023 (Forum)
Hi guys, hoping someone can help a man tearing his hair out. A year ago I bought a Fiat Doblo for work. The van starts every time and runs very well, but when at cold and idle it produces a lot of white smoke (and a strong smell) and ‘hunts’ a bit at idle- smoke starts about 30-45 seconds after starting motor.
  • Citroen C5 - What would you do in my situation? 18 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Purchased my C5 Nov 2013 £4,500 - 76,000 miles. Dec 2013 replaced Turbo £2,600 (main dealer). MOT in May 2014 £750 (local garage), Serviced Aug 2014 £350, Nov 2014 Engine ceased and car written off. The reason for the engine ceasing is likely, but unconfirmed, unless I pay a mechanic to inspect at my expense, due to a problem with the turbo.
  • Audi A3 - Buying a high mileage A3 - advice needed 6 Nov 2013 (Forum)
logcode=p - This one has a lot of miles (123k) but it looks the business and seems to have full service http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/bargain-2004-audi-a3-diesel-20-black-good-condition-long-mot-and-tax-not-leon-golf/1037421906#photo-content - this one looks nice and seems pretty cheap, but I'm not sure if it's got service history I'm a bit of a newbie when it comes to buying cars so could you give me an opinion on those cars and what I should be looking for?
  • LR Defender - Buying Land Rover tomorrow 27 May 2013 (Forum)
It has an MOT   So, my query,  what are the main ' bullet points ' I will need to watch out for in a short test period ?  Will obviously test all gears / brakes / steering and oil for mayo signs, but is there something else to look out for in particular ?
  • VW Camper - Help - I May Have Bought A Category B Write Off 3 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I'm now in a position where I'm waiting to here back. I've gone from having a very valuable van (no issues I'm aware of) to something that could potentially be worth a lot less. If it turns out to be a Cat B then how the HELL have I been able to buy it? Why can I still tax, MOT and insure it.
  • My day. 10 Jul 2001 (Forum)
Aroung July each year I have a bad day, a very bad day, Today was that day. The worse car I look after comes for its yearly MOT/service. It's a 10yr old Seat Terra. For those lucky enough never to have noticed one they are cheap copies of a Fiat Panda in van form. If you have any concerns about trim quality on any current mainstream car just sit in one of these for two minutes without breaking somehing, that'll put things in perspective.
  • Suzuki Baleno - Advice Please 1 Oct 2010 (Forum)
The car was a cat c write off and I brought my car back. I was told I would need a new mot and vic check done. The car passed the mot but then my inurance informed me on 3 occassions that I would not need the vic check done. They told me once the car had been mot'd then my cover would go back up to fully comp.
  • Honda Accord 2002 - Car failed MOT, need advice (do I keep repairing?) 30 Aug 2020 (Forum)

So..... now to my questions It failed its MOT (it does so every year and I just get whatever is needed doing done). last year was on £90 of welding. This year the MOT place have quoted me £150 to do some more welding. I don't mind the welding but my REAL question is regarding the Cam Belt.
  • c15/ 1.9d Berlingo mpv - XUD engine 24 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Hi, I curently own a citroen c15 van.  The engine is a XUD diesel engine which is fantastic. It starts first time, even though I put in waste vegetable oil,  with the normal diesel. I feel that the engine will keep going and going, unfortuatly the body work wont get through many more MOT'S.
  • Police - "Illegal motors 'epidemic'" 21 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Six asylum seekers AN HOUR are caught at the wheel in Wolverhampton without licences, tax, insurance or MOTs. Immigrants from countries including Iraq, Afghanistan and many African nations hold driving licences in their homelands but fail to convert them to UK documents as they legally must after a year.
  • Self employment - Market Niche?? 11 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Say 1 car transporter trailer and a towing dolly for hire to both trade and private, a couple of heavy duty 1/2 or 1 tonne tippers and maybe a box van to start. I could then offer to tow any of these for the punter at an extra cost, so they have the choice. Any thoughts? Hugo "Forever indebted to experience of others"
  • Bargain motor for, err, umm,....somebody 7 Nov 2017 (Forum)
I drove a few of the daihatsu versions while working at a car and van hire company which happened to share premises with a daihatsu dealer, in both manual and automatic form, and thought they were highly amusing. But i suppose i am a bit weird in my car taste!. I like cars which are small and light, i like cars which make you smile, i like cars which are odd, and i like 3 cyl engines, so this ticks many boxes!
  • Landrover freelander - total loss non fault accident 19 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Hi,      Need help understanding whats gone on. I had a non fault accident 20/12/2011. I was travelling along a dual carriageway when a van drove straight out across two lanes of traffic, being too close to do anything about it I ploughed into the side/rear quarter of the van. The van driver went off to hospital but I refused as I didn't want anything to happen in my absence ( I later found out I had a broken sternum and collar bone).
