Unsteamly progress 28 Feb 2009 (Ask HJ)

Vauxhall Astra 2.0 CDTi Diesel (2013) - Vauxhall Astra - acrid smell inside car 14 Feb 2025 (Forum)
At first I thought the exhaust might be leaking but I've had several carbon monoxide monitors in the car with me and they always stay at 0 PPM so I would think this rules out an exhaust leak. There's definitely something there though, and having the blowers on makes it a lot worse, to the extent that if I'm coming to a stop at say some traffic lights I have to turn the heating off until I can get the car moving again else it soon starts to smell inside the car. -
VW Golf Mk IV 1.8 20v - Starting problems - help! 5 May 2011 (Forum)
Does anyone have any idea what might be going on? Incidentally, just after the sensor was changed, the car started to run cold. The only time it heats up to the correct temp is when it is sitting in traffic, otherwise it heats up very slowly to about 20c below what it should be. Might this be connected, or something totally different? -

VW Passat 04 - Rusting front wings 3 Nov 2014 (Forum)
HJ mentioned in this week's Telegraph that VW Passats of this era all suffer from rust on the front wings caused by the makers fitting foam sound deadening in the inner void. Was my A4 of the same era similarly affected? As I havn't seen much evidence of this on what is a very similar car? -
tempted to drive into car in front 21 Jun 2006 (Forum)
this morning i was driving along a dual carriageway in town, speed limit is 30. Approaching traffic lights which are showing red. No cars in front of me. On the other lane there is a car waiting at the traffic lights. In my rear view mirror i caught a glance of a mitsibishi evo weaving in and out of lanes at high speed. he over took me and swerved into my lane, nearly hitting the front of my car, then slaming on the brakes straight away to stop for the lights. i had to brake hard to prevent running into back of him. i had a young kid in the car and was very angry , i was about to get out to have a freindly chat with him but the lights changed and he zoomed off. if i was alone in the car i would have drove into him and scratch his new car. -
MOT failure on front (white) number plate 1 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I lost the will to live today. My car failed its MOT on the front number plate! I've found at least one previous thread where an MOT failure was caused by the slight "honeycomb" pattern on the white background of the front number plate. -
nostalgia 10 Dec 2001 (Forum)
When we're complaining about the idiots who designed/built our car it may help to cast our minds back to our first new car. In my case I had just gone to New England in 1963 and was chuffed to be able to buy a new car. I had left a Standard 10 and Morris Minor at home. -
Peugeot 3008 - Price of replacement mirrors 12 Jun 2016 (Forum)
Enquiring about a replacement electric folding heated mirror with indicator and puddle light I was quoted £314 by a Peugeot dealer. A mirror specialist online quoted £88 for the same item, new, including delivery. Is this a record? -
Xantia Tailgate Wiring 8 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Run a Y2K Xantia 2.0Hdi estate. Various failures of rear screen heat and tailgate mounted lights traced to (fatigue?) breaks in cable cores inside wiring conduit between body and tailgate. Is this a known Xantia problem and are there any fixes? TIA -

Citroen C3 broken front spring 27 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Last year our August '02 Citroen C3 was recalled to have some cups fitted to the front suspension struts to stop the spring end stabbing the front tyre if said spring snapped. Citroen's word on the recall notice is "exceptional event". For a week or two there has been a light intermittent irregular rattle from the front of the car which I discovered on Saturday was the end of the snapped spring, still in its plastic protective coating, tapping on the newly-fitted cup. -

Viessmann Vitodens 200-W with ACV Smart E 160 vers - Boiler 3 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Also he suggested ACV over more common unvented cylinders, he said ACV get heated up all around therefore they get heated up in 15min so a small unit would be sufficient for a big house. We have a 5 bed 4 bathroom and 20 radiators and 15l/m flow and all gas pipes are 22m.
