Ford Fiesta 1.3 Encore N reg - no wipers 30 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Recently i went to a salvage yard for a replacement Light/indicator stalk because the lights had failed on the car. I was sold another switch but when i fitted it the lights worked but when turning on the wipers i heard a crackling noise from the dash, the wipers wouldn't stop going up and down. Then they just stopped on the windscreen and now wont work at all. -
Audi S3 - Quality of HJ Q&A 27 May 2016 (Forum)
In the other case, the Audi owner received a replacement set of tyres FoC. Anyone buying a new car should check the tyre pressures. I have had to reduce them substantially on my last two long term test cars. Remember, pressures rise as heat gets into the tyres so that 38/35 is the hot pressure, not the cold pressure. -

All - Battery Jacket 4 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Apologies if this has been asked before but cars today and from many years back all seem to have some type of insulation jacket on their 12v batteries under the bonnet. Why is this ? Is it to keep it warm, insulate it from the engine bay heat or a bit of both and just maintain it at a constant temp ? -

Volkswagen Fox (2006 - ) - Just bought a Fox, good buy or not? 5 May 2009 (Forum)
After my first brand new car (Grande Punto, mentioned elsewhere here) turned out to be a four wheeled disaster, I changed for a new 57 plate Ford Sportka SE in silver. It was a fantastic car to drive and never played up once during the time I had it, but it started rusting very quickly and by the last time I took it in for a service (Feb/March) when the garage finally found someone free to look at the bodywork after months of excuses they told me that this was to be expected and all cars rust (at 18months old?). -
Mondeo Advice 26 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I am now looking to buy a Mondeo in the £1000-1500 price range and of age anything above the 1996ish facelift. The model I would like is anything from a 1.8LX to 2.0Si. I would ideally like heated front screen, aircon and ABS although I would happily do without for the right car. My question is this; I have seen several (on autotrader, not in the flesh yet) that are around P, R, S, T reg in this price range but they are all high miles (of course). -
I have a Question Volume 58 22 Nov 2004 (Forum)
The obvious answer is 'no', but I recall a former colleague complaining that the instrument panel lamps on his car were forever failing (motoring link!), and an auto electrician explaining that it was because he had them dimmed so much that the filaments failed prematurely. TVM. BTW - I laughed when I read the recent post about ES becoming derigeur as a mounting standard. -
Lack of bugs 7 Sep 2006 (Forum)
This year seems to be an almost bug free year for driving. I have had hardly none on my windscreen. Is this the same with other BR's? -- Roger I read frequently, but only post when I have something useful to say. -
Rattle from rear of Jaguar S-Type Diesel 8 Feb 2012 (Ask HJ)
There's an annoying rattle from rear underside of my 2006 S-Type(52,000 miles) on bumpy roads. Local Jag specialist thought it was rear suspension... -
Toyota Avensis (2003 - 2008) - Dealer not budging on windscreen price! 9 May 2009 (Forum)
I suppose this might have been because another customer allegedly had it out earlier in the day, so there may well be a fair bit of interest in the car, but I was a wee bit disappointed in the not budging policy. How common is this? The car even at £6995 seems good value, there's nothing much I can nitpick over, should I just swallow my hurt pride and buy the thing? -
Nissan Almera Tino (2000 - 2006) - 05 1.8 Warning lights, horn, washers all coming on 29 Aug 2008 (Forum)
(only happened twice - the second time this morning!) This is an ex-mobility car, in case it matters. One thing nobody seems to know about is that on the pillar between the windscreen and drivers side door and almost at roof level is some kind of electrical device. It's a tiny (approx 2cm square) black plastic box fixed with velcro to the pillar inside the car. -
Snatched from the Windscreen 18 Dec 2005 (Forum)
The problem centres on a parking ticket issue in Nottingham recently. My daughter has this car, which belongs to me, on long-term loan while she is studying at Nottingham Trent University... I have received a Penalty Charge Notice of £60.00 under the ?owner?s liability? provisions of the RTA 1991, Schedule 6, paragraph 2(4) for £60 as a £30 parking ticket issued to this car on 12 November 2005 has not been paid. -

VW polo heating has gone 28 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I have a W reg polo which has been without heating since november (I have been putting off doing anything that's not totally essential until I get job with this fantastic MSc that will supposedly make me a desirable employee). Anyway, I wondered if there were any suggestions of what it could be and how much it will set me back? -
Why does my BMW cut out? 2 Aug 2013 (Ask HJ)

Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - Bizarre breakdown ... and cheap fix 19 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Strange day indeed! Left at normal time this morning, dropped junior at school, got back in car reached for smokes... discovered the Zippo had been left at home. damn. So used the car's ciggie lighter. Now, the lighter needs to be held in a bit to heat it up to ciggie-lighting hotness... Carried on, normal route, got a few miles down the road in stop/go traffic, reach for new ciggie, push in lighter, wait for it to heat up.
