Is it normal to need a new clutch after eight year?

I have just had a new clutch and wing nut fitted to my 2013 Audi A3 - is this a normal fault? We bought the car 8 years ago. Is it my driving?

Clutches are consumable parts of a car and will wear out over time.

The life of a clutch will very much depend on your driving style. 'Riding the clutch' (where you keep your right foot partly depressed longer than necessary) will accelerate wear, as it pushed the pad against the clutch plate and creates heat, friction and wear.
