Vatican's 'driving commandments' 20 Jun 2007 (Forum)
'Thou shalt not kill' makes an understandable appearance in the Pope's top ten rules for the road, as well as advice to avoid road rage. Apparently it's OK to pray while driving as well - and this from a man who never gets driven around by his wife... Only kidding ;-) Any views on this long-overdue intervention from On High, or have they forgotten anything? -
Opel Kadetts? 19 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Seemed very odd for new left hand drive cars to be transported around the country. Wouldn't GM be making their left hand drive cars at their continental plants? -
I want a fuller full beam 30 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Driving along lonely Highland roads at night, I often feel that full beam (on my Berlingo) is not full enough. I would like to be able to see further along the road, as well as a wider area beside the road, so that night driving was more like day driving. -
Road pricing - pay as you drive 10 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Are motorists in Norfolk for example now to be the subjects of a pilot scheme to be given exemption from road tax? How will that work if they drive outside the test area? Or is the whole idea simply a way of raising even more money, without any intention of it being an alternative to conventional pricing? -
Drink driving limit review 15 Sep 2006 (Forum)
The drink driving limit is in the news as the government has turned down a suggestion of a lower limit for under 21s. That might be a slightly strange suggestion. However, I think the law needs tightening. Currently if you are over the 80 mg limit, that is a serious motoring offence and you get a 1 year ban, yet if you are just under the limit no offence has been committed. -

Limit teenage driving ?? 2 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Read an interesting article on A-express website, basically says that 1 in 4 deaths caused by dangerous driving are the fault of the under 20's & the safety body "BRAKE" wants to introduce certain limits on this age group. h**p://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/57161/teen_clampdown_call.html Personally think that with the ever increasingly powerful cars available these days certain limitations are probably a good idea, although I also think that anyone buying a "very high performance" car should have to take some type of "speed awareness" course, not just under 20's. -
Driving in Cyprus 7 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Interesting at night time Traffic in side roads does not always give way and the ubiquitous pick up trucks often drive down the wrong side of the road initially when making a right turn. Still, petrol was only 43 cents a litre (~ 52 p) -- I wasna fu but just had plenty. -
I want new fog lights 11 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Not just any old fog lights though - I want the special ones that are *SO* bright that they somehow make it safe to drive at 80+mph in torrential rain and an inch of standing water. Just like the RAV4 that went past me on the A40 last night, in fact. What's best is that (apparently) if you switch on the special "I can drive however I want" fog lights at the same time as your "I can park anywhere" hazard lights, it becomes safe to use a handheld mobile phone while driving! -
Let there be light 6 Dec 2003 (Forum)
How many people would admit they have difficulty driving at night? -
Driving into London 30 Aug 2002 (Forum)
My question for the great knowledge-base which is the back room is - does anyone have a better idea. The ideal for us would be to drive to a Zone 1 tube station and park, which we don't mind paying for. Surely Park and Tube is do-able? Thanks in advance for any tips and suggestions Andy -
Driving Improvements ? 20 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I had an interesting discussion with someone who has not driven in this country for around 10 years. He now drives in London and in some of the home counties. He tells me that (to him) is is very noticeable that drivers now, generally, are observing speed limits much more that previously and he concludes that this is probably due to the great increase in the numbers of speed cameras etc. -
Driving an automatic 20 Apr 2001 (Forum)
This is my first automatic and I have immediately noticed both poorer performance at low speeds and overall much higher petrol consumption. Leaving aside the possibility of there being a fault with the new car, I wonder if I'm not driving the automatic correctly? Has anyone any tips to get the best economy/performance combination or can let me know about anywhere I can read up on this? Thanks -
Driving Test 9 Jun 2025 (Forum)
Can You Appeal a Failed Driving Test? Before we go further in this article, we need to clear the air on if you can appeal and it’s just not a wasted effort. Yes, you can appeal your driving test result, but it’s important to know that an appeal will not overturn the result or grant you a pass . -
Supervising a learner 4 Apr 2025 (Forum)
My sister is learning to drive - she's passed her theory test and is having lessons with an instructor. She is thinking of buying a car now to get more experience behind the wheel before she takes her driving test, and has asked if I would supervise her. -
Jaguar I-Pace - Self driving taxi 4 Apr 2025 (Forum)
I’m in California for a couple of weeks and today took a self driving taxi for the first time in San Francisco. They’re called Waymo, use Jaguar I-Pace, and are part of Alphabet (Google’s parent company). You download the app, create an account, then summon a car to your location. -
Lotus Eletre - First drive 1 Oct 2023 (Forum)
Just had an enjoyable week in Essex driving, talking about and demonstrating the new Lotus Eletre. In a huge departure for Lotus - it’s over 5 metres long, an electric SUV with a starting price of £89,500. Dual motors with 450kW (612ps) and a 109 usable kW battery, the WLTP range is 373 miles on the (smaller!) -
any - driving in bus lane penalty charge notice 2 Oct 2018 (Forum)
does anyone actually know the law on this as i have read a few posts that differ from others....cheers ;) Another thing connected ...this "offence" occured on the same day as i bought the car and i cannot be absolutely sure what time i bought the car,i think it was probably me driving at the time (photo evidence is shown) but the old owners dad did drive me around to show me how it went....... i did have this discussion with a friend of mine and we agreed that the time of sale really should be stated on the log book to stop this very thing happening. -
Ford Ranger - Pickup truck hit my car 10 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Pickup truck was in fourth lane and hit my car while taking exit from fourth lane to first. He was driving at 75-80mph and I couldn’t prove that he was driving fast. Highway authorities couldn’t provide the video clip of the incident eventhough I gave the exact time & place. They had cameras around that place.
