Focus Conundrum 2 Sep 2013 (Forum)
We've got a toddler and hopefully one on the way, so we're thinking with practicality, safety and running costs in mind. Kit/gadgetry's not really a consideration. 5 doors is a must, too. We're looking to hang on to whatever we choose for a while to come (we've had the current car for nearly 8 years). -
2001 Fiesta Zetec-S - Fiesta playing up 16 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I bought a ODB reader that bluetooths information to my phone and this morning it came up with this P0303 - Ford Type Powertrain - Ignition System or Misfire - ISO/SAE Controlled Description Cylinder Number 3 Misfire Conditions Cause Engine running in a positive torque condition, then the PCM detected a misfire condition in engine cylinder number 3 (lack of spark or fuel metering, base engine) And again this later Pending Fault Log ------------------ P0300: Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected Going back a few weeks my fuel filter was perished. -
Vauxhall Astra Hatchback 3-Door 1.9 CDTi Design - Buy A Vauxhall Astra 17 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Not naming names who the dealership is but on their website it states :One of the Midlands largest independently owned, family run car Dealer Groups. And they sell Nissan, Renault, Dacia, Peugeot, Suzuki, Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Citroen . Oh yes I forgot to say the original sales man said he could knock off £500 from the £6,995 if I wanted the car even though It was not part of his stock .... -
Scudo Van Comfort 1.6 Multijet - Warranty - major fault - Sale of Goods Act 1979 24 Feb 2013 (Forum)
The bill was in the end just under £2500 to get the car up and running again. DAF told me that they never had such a fault, certainly not for a car of under 4 years of age and at 17000 miles (I drive the car normally twice a week for about 70 miles with little stop-and-go and only light private domestic use). -
Puegeot 405 1.9 TD - Puegeot 405 coolant pipe behind injector pump snap 30 Jan 2013 (Forum)
So now I presume that coolant is not circulating the head correctly (if at all). The car runs fine and the general coolant temperature has not been adversely affected. My super reliable car has done 210K and now I only drive short distances (8 miles or so to work) so I do not expect the head to suffer adversely (as it will never get too hot) while I determine if I can source a replacement pipe or effect a repair or leave it? -
Any - Autotrader 18 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Can you REALLY touch up dents? Who knew! Rummaging in the boot revealed 'He Man dual control' pedals. Walk don't run far far away! Do some of you Lunnon 'communities' have unlicensed driving instructors? Country don't mean dumb people! We left in a small huff. It was with a sinking heart that the next day we went to see a Megane 2 1.5 dci 110. -
Lacetti 1.6 SX - Chevrolet Lacetti Automatic Engine Warning light 10 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Eventually after the car had been in the garage 4/5 times they suggested the electric box needs replacing (note the door locks click quite regularly for no reason), cost 1,000 pounds! no chance I thought. Since last Summer generally the car has been running ok, but yesterday the problem returned, guess what, it rained hard, and the roads were very wet. This time, worst ever, the car seriously lost power, and I had to pull over to the side of the road 3 times. -
Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - Turbo Diesels - same afflictions as TDCI? (Vol 3) 17 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Having spent over two grand on the car over two years, I feel like sending the car for scrap, cutting my losses and running but I feel someone out there might have experience of this and may be able to offer me some advice and a possible way forward. (I like others have noticed Screwloose seems particularly knowledgeable about Mazda diesel problems). -
Classic cars, bikes older Outboards Chainsaws ETC - Ethanol in Fuel ( by EU Directive ) 11 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Given the right climate, other crops, particularly sugar cane, are much better, which explains why Brazil leads the world in ethanol use. Since the 1970s, vehicles have been available that will run on 20 per cent alcohol and above. Yet ethanol is also a powerful solvent that, without a suitable additive, attacks many fuel system components including zinc and galvanised materials, brass, copper, aluminium, seals and hoses, cork, polyurethane and epoxy resins. -
Saab - More unemployment for many - a sad day. 2 Jan 2012 (Forum)
The carmaker was forced to halt production in April as suppliers stopped deliveries over mountains of unpaid bills. Saab's some 3,700 employees, whose salaries have been delayed five months running, have yet to receive their November paychecks. Copyright © 2011 AFP. All rights reserved. Peugeot 307 HDI 2002 110BHP - Anti Pollution 16 Dec 2011 (Forum)
I had AA took the car back to a Leeds garage for the repair, they replaced the dual mass flywheel/clutch and sent the gear box off for repair (the gear box came back as ok) After picking the car up it was running very sluggish as though the turbo wasnt working, so I tried to rev the car which the started the engine management to go off saying "Anti Pollution Fault" and "ABS/ESP Not functioning". I took the car to another garage which replaced the turbo but it didnt do anything, the car still stayed in idle made... -
Honda CR-V - Unidentified Noise on a 59 reg Honda Cr-V 31 Oct 2011 (Forum)
We've ruled out the usual problem of the rear diff fluid. One last thing, I'm averaging about the 40mpg on solo long runs. Is anyone getting much better? I used to get 45mpg in my previous one which was an '06 reg. Any comments or info would be gratefully received. -
Pensioner Leads Police On 27 Mile Chase At 10mph 9 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Pensioner led police on 27 mile chase at 10mph A pensioner who led police on a 27 mile low-speed chase at 10mph finally stopped after an officer tapped on her window while running alongside the car. Caroline Turner, 76, ignored blue flashing lights, but eventually stopped when an officer ran alongside her on a dual carriageway and tapped on her window. He asked her to stop and she said: "Why, what have I done?" -
Vauxhal Vectra B - X18XE Missfire (no EML) 7 Sep 2011 (Forum)
[endif]--> I have a 1998 Vectra Arctic with a 1.8 (X18XE) engine, and to be honest i'm having real issues getting it running properly. Ok i think this all started when the car had a bad Cam cover gasket which flooded the plugs with oil causing it to need the assistance of an AA truck but the odd thing was it was VERY hot, i don't mean water temp or oil that seemed fine but the Cat was glowing for 5 mins after it stopped and if you looked into the end of the exhaust you could see the Baffles glowing, Anyway this was fixed with new Plugs,Leads, Coil pack and Cam gasket and it ran fine for just over two weeks. -
Peugeot 206 1.4 Zest - wear and tear of a central door locking system? 24 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I had to get someone to come from home with a spare key to rescue me. I found that with or without the engine running with the key in the ignition, the car locked itself as soon as the door was closed. It could not be re-opened using the blipper on the key but only by putting a key physically into the lock. -
Honda Accord Tourer - Dull, dull, dull 4 Mar 2011 (Forum)
'cos at 147k miles the gearbox needed a rebuild (dodgy bearing), the suspension needed replacing and the injectors were on the way out. While the car would happily go on to 300k plus miles, the cost of keeping it running was beyond my impoverished means, being out of work. Average MPG was about 38-40 So, part-exed the Volvo for a Honda Accord Tourer - '05 model SE spec (base model), ultra reliable 2.0 iV-Tec petrol lump - only 66k miles, FSH, all MOT certificates, a solid car, BUT, just so dull to drive - doesn't inspire in any way, MPG highly unimpressive at 27 - it does everything competently, but I want something more - not quite sure what I'm missing, whether it's the low down power of the diesel or the luxurious comfortable cabin of the Volvo, or something with more grunt. -
'05 VW Passat 2.0TDi Sport - '05 Passat Estate Central Locking 21 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I picked up an '05 Passat 2.0TDi sport last September and its been running fine since I got it - FSH etc and all seemed to be great. In November (and literally for about an hour) the external passenger door handle stopped working. I would double click the key fob and all other doors would unlock, the inside door handle would work fine (on the passenger door) but it would not open from the outside. -
Mitsubishi Space Wagon (1999 - 2005) - 2.4 GDi Engine, noisy tappets and perfomance issue 13 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Have looked at a couple of forums & there seem to be a few issues with excessive carbon build up which can destroy throttle bodies & noisy tappets. Mine seems to run fine, but it does have the tapping noise & (every now & again) a bit of a hesitancy under hard acceleration. The noisy tappets seem to be heard more often than not at the mo, but the hesitancy really is an occasional thing & has only happened thus far under full throttle acceleration, going uphill & 2 out of 3 times was on a relatively cold engine. -
Recommendations for BIG but economical estate pls. 7 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I can't afford the finance (or fuel, to be honest) on it any more due to job circumstances so I'm selling it, paying off the finances and getting something cheaper to run for a while. I work from home so do very few miles at present. If that changes I'll worry about changing the car again then. However I do quite a few small journies of 5 to 20 miles several times a week (with most of the family in the car) and maybe once a month a longer ones of > 100. -
Vauxhall - Camshaft snapped on Vauxhall Tigra 27 Oct 2010 (Forum)
The camshaft has now been replaced and also the engine coil pack and report from the garage this morning is that the car is running fine on a test drive but has a slight misfire when idling so they are now removing the cylinder head to check for bent valves - bill currently sitting at just over £700! I was wondering if anyone can tell me whether this is a common problem with all 05 vx's or is it just one of those things?
