  • Ford Fiesta 2000 (W reg) - overheating on dashboard/above steering column 21 Jun 2012 (Forum)
Thing is, it's still overheating and is still red-hot above the steering - to the point where I'm quite afraid it might burst into flames. There's no cold air blowing out of the grilles, even when set to coldest. Apart from that, it runs brilliantly... Questions: What's likely to be the cause and is it something I can fix myself? And do I have redress with the garage? They seem to have taken a lot of money for doing f**k all.
  • Have I gone mad? 11 Apr 2012 (Forum)
logcode=p Now, I need (no, I MUST have) a car that is totally 100% reliable, as I'm the kitchen manager for Meals On Wheels, and I work 7 days a work (hence the new car - as I do upwards of 15000 miles per year) So, why am I looking at a ten year old car, that will no doubt fall apart on me ASAP, as I will run it into the ground? I think I may be falling in love with the K11, that's why!
  • Ford Focus 56 plate 1.8 Diesel - Ford Focus 56 plate 1.8 Diesel - Smoke on startup 12 Feb 2012 (Forum)
MPG appears to be reasonable given that it does a lot of short distances bar one slightly longer journey a week. I try to drive fairly sensibly (bar when i'm running late for work :) but even then im talking 90mph nothing to get excited about - oh seems to drive sensibly too, well when im around anyway) Any thoughts on what it may be? Glow plugs seem to be ok (i tried 'warming' them up twice before starting engine to see if that made a difference but it was exactly the same) Have seen all sorts online about what it could be from minor to major problems, it seems to depend on the colour/quantity of smoke etc   Really grateful for any advice Thanks Lennylegs

  • accident that never happened 1 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I probably should mention that I did have an actual accident, were a learner driver pulled out at a junction, then stopped in the middle of the road with me running in to the back of them - a claim that I admitted liability for and was settled by my insurance company.  This meant that when the incident with the taxi driver occured, I had damage to the front of my car - some thing I suspect he saw as an opportunity.
  • Mazda 6 Diesel 2008 - Mazda 6 Diesel computer glitch or serious problem? 25 Sep 2011 (Forum)
The first weekend take it home for 120miles and on the motorway the DPF light comes on.  I run it for the weekend hoping that i can regenerate it. Phoned the garage to let them know on the Monday that there was a DPF issue.  Obviously i'm not going to drive it 320 mile back to the garage so opt for the local Mazda dealer.
  • October 1999 Ford Fiesta Mk 5 1.25 Ghia - Boot popper operates when closing OSR door 2 Aug 2011 (Forum)
In fact, except for the presence of the alarm horn in the boot, I wouldn't believe the car has an alarm - can't get any response out of it at all and it won't go into test mode by flicking the bonnet alarm switch 8 times in 6 seconds. Now at wits end as have run completely out of ideas. Any ideas very gratefully received. Cheers
  • Volvo V60 - Failure to Furnish 3 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Today i have received a letter from the police stating that "Upon their enquiries and from the information received, i regret to inform you that your recent nomination of a foreign driver has failed to be substantiated" As a result of an unsatisfactory response under Section 172 Road Traffic Act 1988, i must advise you that it is intended to take proceedings against you for the offence of failing to furnish. A summons may be expected at a later date. I really dont know what to do. Several thoughts run through my head. I am wondering if the driving details provided to me by my guest were not genuine and i am presently unable to contact him. I also didnt request any photographic evidence at the time they initially wrote to me in case it was someone else driving.
  • Bank holiday driving 25 Apr 2011 (Forum)
In town its even worse, pedestrians who were obviously never tought as a child to look both ways before walking into the road. Pedestrians who just wander into the road completely ignoring moving vehicles, children running into the road who should really be on some considerably strong piece of rope, or just left at home entirely. Then you end up in "shared space" areas after that, where "nobody has right of way" according to the town planner.
  • Honda CRV mark I - Refurbish or Replace ? 4 Jan 2011 (Forum)
The Honda is a 2 litre petrol, and a little thirsty. 30 mpg is my maximum (more like 20 around town). I like the idea od chaep to run small cars, but usually end up in something big and roomy (like I said - I am a big bloke). Any and all advice is welcome. Thanks for taking the time to read.
  • Mazda 6 - Fuel pump causing problems 12 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Well I have a Mazda 6, 2.0 litre turbo diesel and I accidently and very stupidly put in £5 of petrol as soon as i realised I thought it wouldn't cause much of a problem if I just filled up with diesel (which later proved to be a huge mistake). After running on it for about 2 weeks, the car would start just automatically switching off on the road. Now after taking it to over 4 garages including Mazda I'm stuck! I've been told many different things which have not worked.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2003 1.8 Zetec Tdci 115 fuel consumption 18 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I'm a bit cheesed off about this as my previous car - a Pug 306hdi estate which was a much heavier car but with slightly bigger 2L engine but only 90bhp and with better low speed torque used to do a regular 50mpg no matter how I drove it. I have vaguely wondered whether after 70,000 miles its advisable to run some injector cleaner through it - I am also extremely aware from other forums (veg oil, doh!) that these injectors aint cheap! Can anyone advise? Another thing I have vaguely wondered about but wouldn't really consider without making very, very sure, is an ECU remap - does anyone have any experiences??.
  • Citroen Xsara - 1998 XSARA Hatch - Door Locks do not open with key 1 May 2010 (Forum)
I discovered that if you are inside the car with the car running, you can flick the locking button and ALL doors lock and unlock successfully, so the locking mechanism works (i have not tried to open them from the outside when this is done yet, as the drivers electric window is also broken)   My thought would be that I need a new set of lock barrels...
  • MPV for 4 kids. 27 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Is anyone else in the position that they have 4 relatively close in age, young children and run one of these mid sized people carriers rather than the full sized Espace, Galaxy, Sharan type machine?   Regards   Cavey
  • CAR DEALING FOR TOTAL AMATEUR - MADNESS? 19 Mar 2010 (Forum)
I’m not really sure what motivates people when choosing a car. Running costs obviously, reliability – and their specific needs.   But I’ve begun to think after a lot of reading it’s not just   a hard pro & con decision – it seems people can’t help but use other factors (the appearance of the car, the whole image of the brand name ) even though they may start out intending not to.
  • Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - Bye bye S60... :-( 8 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Three services, a pair of front discs and new pads, a top engine mount, a replacement indicator stalk, a set of four new boots, and a handful of new bulbs. Still runs like new, drives superbly, and with just £800 depreciation in two years, and probably £500 in servicing, tyres and upkeep, it is laughably cheap motoring for such a beautifully constructed, refined and well equipped executive car.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Got me some new wheels :-) 16 Dec 2009 (Forum)
so I suspect that this has had an effect, I also have a new MAF sensor ready to be fitted and will be cleaning the EGR and Inlet Manifolds next week to ensure that she runs more efficiently. I really hope that the tyre isn't a puncture but I suspect that it will turn out to be so! Worst case scenario and I have bought a car with knackered injectors, but time will tell!
  • Parking Charge Scam. 16 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Now from Google Earth, the distance from our house to the exact spot where we were supposed to be parked is 80.1 miles, so a return trip would be at least 160 miles. So if we had done this trip and adding on all the local running about, our mileage would have been greater than the 148 that is documented. So this must be a scam, but how does it work ? I have rung up the hire car company, and told them in no uncertain terms, not to charge my card for a £35 admin fee and to pass my details on to the Parking enforcement company for me to deal with direct, to which they agreed.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 04 1.8 my car wont start properly (1.8sci) 7 Nov 2009 (Forum)
then i turn off all the extras, ie, lights, seat heaters, fans, cd player. i try it again and it usually starts at that point, if not first time then second time. i have had the battery tested by kwikfit and they say it is running at 77% which they say means it doesnt require replacing as that is plenty. sometimes (once or twice a month) the car will cut out while im driving at any speed. but that might be my fault if iv not got the gear ratio correct for the speed. i have mentioned it in case it might be relevant.
  • Ford Fiesta (2000 - 2002) - 01 1.3 Engine misfire/juddering whilst under load 28 Oct 2009 (Forum)
You can hear the engine tappets rattling but i have been advised that they wouldn't be the cause of the engine juddering/misfire and the problem lies elsewhere. Another anomaly is that I had a diagnostics run on it and on the two separate machines that where used said there where no error codes but the engine management light is on. The engine management light has been on for the last 3000 miles with apparent ill affect until this juddering started about 1000 miles ago.
