  The critical issues that influence the choice of vehicle haven’t changed significantly, with price still coming top of the list at 52% ahead of make/model, mileage and age. However, environmental issues continue to increase in importance for used car buyers. This year saw 6% of respondents saying environmental considerations would be an influencing factor when they next buy, compared to 4% last year and just 2% in 2006. Significantly it is the less well off and poorest sectors of the consumer marketplace that are most likely to consider the environment in their car purchase – almost certainly driven by the rising cost of motoring in the past 12 months.

  Big Historic Car Racing Event at Castle Combe This Weekend 2 Oct 2012 (News)
  Normal racing resumes on Sunday 7th to end the season. Period dress is encouraged and prestigious and important vehicles and drivers from the circuit's history will line up to take part. Entries include the ex-Ecurie Ecosse Jaguar XK120, raced at Castle Combe in 1952 by the late Jamie Scott-Douglas, a grandson of the 9th Duke of Beaufort and resident of nearby Sherston.  In the race on April 12 1952, sometime playboy Scott-Douglas brought the car home in 5th place in the unlimited sports car race.

    The use of regenerative charging during vehicle decelerations, combined with an optimised battery storage system, provides a further 3-5 per cent improvement. A 7-10 per cent reduction in CO 2 emissions is important.  The industry has less than two years to ensure all new cars sold in Europe meet a fleet average of 130g/km and the subsequent target of 95g/km by 2020.   The same 2012 deadline has been imposed in the US with its first nationwide carbon emissions target of 250g/mile (155g/km), with permission for individual states to impose tighter limits.
