New SAAB 9-3 Details, Specs and Prices 21 May 2002 (News)
It sits on the Epsilon floorpan developed jointly by SAAB and GM for the new 9-3 and the new Vectra, but differs in several important details: the new SAAB 9-3 structure is more than twice as torsionally stiff as the old Cavalier based car. The suspension is MacPherson strut at the front and multi-link independent at the rear, mounted on subframes by rubber bushes which are laterally stiff for good steering response but longitudinally compliant for good ride comfort and isolation of road noise from the cabin. -

Lord Mandleson Backs British Motor Industry With Words 25 Nov 2009 (News)
Clearly one of the most important strands of the Council’s work will involve low carbon vehicle policy. Now, I recognise that there is no silver bullet solution to cutting automotive emissions. But the industry’s consensus around a low carbon road map has provided a very useful tool and was central to the Government’s own strategy for low carbon cars, which we published in April. -

In your opinion (and I recognise that it works both ways for major components/engines, etc.) has this been properly reflected in the price of imported continental manufactured vehicles or are importers making hay? May I congratulate you on making such a brilliant contribution to motoring journalism over the years. SK, Sandbach Car prices are subject to supply and demand and that's what determines them. -

Happy Birthday: Alfa Spider 9 Mar 2016 (News)
Box office success led to sales achievements despite the car’s misbehaviour in front of the cameras, and the Spider went on to become one of the USA’s most popular European imports, despite costing more than a contemporary Chevrolet Corvette or Ford Mustang, with half the cylinders and a quarter of the engine capacity. Increases in engine size to 1750 and 2000cc helped, but only a little. -
2012's Most Reliable and Least Reliable Cars, According to Warranty Direct 28 Dec 2012 (News)
"Over the years, we've seen countless new technologies introduced to cars - they are now more complex than ever and, while many innovations are geared towards important considerations, like safety, it also means there is more and more that can go wrong. "As an example, the first car we ever covered was an Audi 100 - that was replaced by the A6, which features start/stop technology, an electromechanical parking brake, a park assist system and sensors for tyre pressure, light and rain, to name but a few new gadgets." -
Castle Combe Racing on Live TV 2nd May 21 Apr 2011 (News)
As is traditional at Castle Combe, the accent is on non-stop action, with a packed programme of generally short races, where sprinting to the finish will be more important than pacing and preserving tyres. Nevertheless, with two races for each of the circuit's home grown championships for saloons, Sports & GT cars and Formula Fords, there will need to be a delicate balance in the first races between car preservation and ultimate pace. -
'Lost' Aston Martin 2/4 'Finds' £206,000 at Classic Auction 10 Sep 2010 (News)
“It was an amazing lot that attracted a huge amount of attention and exceeded all expectations,” said Barons’ Managing Director, Laurence Sayers-Gillan. “The final result goes to demonstrate how important it is to give these rare or special motor cars the correct level of promotion – when a car is consigned to us, we make sure that the world is told it’s coming up for auction!” With a sale total of around £700,000 plus premium, it was an outstanding result for Barons. -

Top Cars Topple as Stock Market Falls 30 Sep 2002 (News)
To hype-a-market, the first requirement is people with too much money and the confidence to spend it on expensive cars in short supply. Two weeks ago three bidders fought each other to buy a 52 reg imported very high spec BMW X5 3.0D Sport auto with the winner paying £46,750. But today they just weren’t there, so its identical spec sister car started at £40,000, bid to ‘£43,000’ provisionally and didn’t sell. -

Analysts have said the strategy isn't without risk and could expose VW to the threat of massive recalls if a single part, used in millions of cars, fails. China's quality watchdog said the recalls will include VW's imported cars, such as Scirocco, Golf Variant, Golf Cabriolet and the Beetle, as well as those made at its two Chinese joint ventures with FAW (Cropredy Bridge Garage - Jensen Specialists 11 Nov 2013 (News)
No wonder, Cropredy Bridge is confident to offer a year's warranty on its work. Another big and important part of the business is upgrade work. Cropredy Bridge Garage manufactures the latest incarnation of the Interceptor - Jensen International Automotive (JIA)’s Interceptor R. This car has received plenty of column inches during the past couple of years since launch, as it's a thoroughly updated Interceptor powered by a modern American V8 engine, with modern brakes and suspension upgrades.BCA Warns Against Pimping Your Ride 30 May 2012 (News)
Overall, most used car buyers are happy with a CD/Radio unit that works, and are not concerned about having state of the art equipment delivering crystal clear clarity at 99+ decibels. MP3 compatibility is increasingly important and buyers again like integral factory-fitted systems. No increase in value, but might make the car more saleable to the right buyer. Tim Naylor concludes, “Before adding any retro-fitted extras, sellers should take into account that used car buyers, as group, have traditionally had very conservative tastes so any additions should be carefully considered. While you may fancy lowered suspension, tinted windows and some fancy paintwork, it could cost more than you bargained for when it comes to reselling the vehicle.” More at www.british-car-auctions.co.uk
