Skoda Fabia VRs - Failed ECU 4 years old - Sorry for the long post! 18 Jun 2010 (Forum)
A further courtesy car was dropped off on the morning of 4th may Thurs 13th May was our last contact from Farmer Skoda. After being told several weeks ago they were waiting for a car to come in to transplant the ECU out of to see if this was the problem (as we suspected all along!) my husband received a call from Steve Allen stating they thought it was probably the ECU...!!!. NO official diagnosis, a new ECU had NOT been tried in the car to test this despite promises to the contrary, and it was simply a guess. -
Vauxhall Corsa - Lack of Power/Gutless 12 Nov 2012 (Forum)
EGR is operating however block of EGR to try to improve performance, car is running better, advise customer to try and return if not happy. 11. The Technician suggested it could be the ECU, the fuel pump or maybe the injectors. I found a guy on eBay that re-programmes second hand ECU’s to your car at £200 and as I described the fault he thought that it was the ECU at fault and would change it and if this was not the fault he would only charge £50 for the visit and re-programming. -
Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 05 1.6 Loss of power 10 May 2021 (Forum)
The last week it has been totally flat and not gone into the turbo once ( good fun when you live at the top of a big hill on a busy road ) I had a diagnostic done this morning, and when I picked the car up the garage told me they had reset the ecu to clear fault codes, but were unable to tell me what codes had been present due to a problem with their diagnostic equipment ( great ) they didn't charge me though ( not that I would have payed ) . -
Renault Clio II (1998 - 2001) - 99 1.4 Problem ticking over 29 Oct 2016 (Forum)
He replaced the old valve but the car would randomly rev up and wouldn't pass emitions test. I therefore had to declare it SORN as I couldn't tax it! He removed the ECU and sent it to Renault who reported no fault, informing him it would be the wiring. I’ve now been without a car for 3 1/2 months and he doesn't know what to do now. I can’t even use it for part-ex or scrap page scheme and I’m at my wits end!! -
Citroen Berlingo Multispace - Engine misfire, Lots of black smoke 3 Aug 2011 (Forum)
, I understand that the advance/retard solenoid (situated underneath the injection pump) gets a digital signal from the ECU, anyone scoped this, do you know the nature of the signal? Anyone able to direct me to a site where I can download the engine electrics/electronics? I'm a retired aircraft electronic technician, so have no problem with interpreting the information, just need the information! -
Skoda Fabia - engine stutter and high oil use 8 Jan 2011 (Forum)
The severity of the original stutter made me think that the car was silently backfiring or that there had been metal to metal contact inside the engine. That said I have toyed with various theories including, sticky valves, faulty ECU, bad electrical joint, radio frequency interference from passing mini-cabs/public service vehicles blitzing the ECUs working values. prompting a reset etc. Any ideas ? Nothing appears to show on VAG COM diagnosis. -
Berlingo - Very noisy tickover. 4 Aug 2007 (Forum)
However, this time the fault cleared itself after being turned off and allowed to "rest". The car was taken to a main dealer who interrogated the ECU and found that a "Lift sensor failure" had been recorded. They replaced the Lift sensor and also the engine speed sensor and cleared the fault code from the ECU. The car has since failed a further three times with the same symptoms! -
Peugeot 306 Auto Struggling With Revs 14 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I recently bought a second-hand 306 1.6 Auto (V reg. 2000), and it's performed like a dream up until recently. The EMU/ECU light keeps "flickering" on and off and on occasion, when I come to a stop, the engine will stall. Today, things got markedly worse still as I when I accelerated, the car changed through the gears fine, until it got to changing from third to fourth (top in this auto). -
BMW 1 Series - BMW 1 Series - advice needed. 28 Aug 2021 (Forum)
Since it has been returned to the unit after it had being recovered. His diagnostic kit cannot connect to ECU. So he had an auto electrian look at the electrics of the car (free of charge). He found fault with some wires from the ECU to the engine were in his words frayed. Which he then replaced hoping it would solve the issue. -
PSA - More recalls 8 Dec 2023 (Forum)
These cars are being recalled due to an error in the calibration software of the electronic engine control unit (ECU). “An incorrect value may be given when the data is processed by the vehicle and this can result in nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions that are above regulatory limits” Presumably the Vauxhall equivalent vehicles will also be affected. -
Please help me decide next van purchase 10 Nov 2021 (Forum)
Im in the market for buying a van. My trusty fiat scudo has just been scrapped due to failing mot rust, ecu and exhaust problems. I am wanting a transit or vivaro van about 2008 -2010 age and about £4-5k But i just cant decide... i love the look of them both. Transit looks nicer in the cab but the rust is putting me off especially after just scrapping my scudo for rotting away. -
2011 Suzuki Swift - Scrap or repair? 11 Jun 2021 (Forum)
It has done 105,000 miles and needs check a new ID controller unit and Keyless start control unit to 'see if it helps' as they are unsure of the issue due to an unexpected response on the ECU. They say it will then need reprogramming and resting but that other work may need doing if these modules don't sort the issue. It has done me a good service and in the climate of the times, I have to wonder whether it is worth attempting to fix or to sell as spare and repairs. -

2005 Ford Fiesta, 1242cc, 3-door, petrol - Radiator Fan Problem 15 Aug 2020 (Forum)
There are three electrical plugs. The plug into the fan is okay, the plug that goes into the engine/ECU is okay. Plug number 3 is hanging loose. It looks like the unit it plugs into has been damaged. The broken unit has a couple of other wires going into it. I need to order the broken unit but I do not know what its called. -

Land Rover Discovery 4 - Should you remap your can/van/4x4/motorhome 9 Oct 2015 (Forum)
We are also CMD users meaning a high chance we can tune your vehicle via the OBD2 socket which is a much safer way then having your ECU removed and possibly damaged or worse broken costing 1000s to replace . (Edit - sorry, missed that attempt at free advertising when it first appeared. The market for remapping cans may not be all that great....) -
Ford Mondeo - Cruise Control Fault 19 Jul 2015 (Forum)
My fiancee has since taken her mondeo into her local ford dealer where they have ran a diagnostic on the car and the result according to them was to say the least shocking - aparently they reckoned the parts were £100 if it was the switch's and if it's the ecu it'll be £1,800 + . Is this correct or can I source the relevent parts & get them fitted cheeper ????. RSVP James. -
Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI 2006 - Exhaust gas temperature sensor 23 Jun 2015 (Forum)
I'm suspecting it could have failed as when I put a meter across it it reads open circuit. There's two wires on its connector, one receives 5 volts (from the ECU) and the other zero. Ideally I'm looking for a temperature vs resistance or voltage curve. Ford want almost 150 quid for a replacement so if any of you know another cheaper supplier I'd be grateful.
