Why this should be is only partly explained by the true new car sales figures for September, down to 430,763 including last minute registrations to ‘fleets’.

  Cheapies included a rebodied 1946 Alvis TA14 shooting brake, sold for £4,200; a 1963 Morris Minor convertible, sold for £1,400; a 1974 Triumph GT6 MK III, sold for £1,500; a 1971 Triumph Spitfire 1300 Mk IV, sold for £1,700; a beautifully restored 1935 Morris 12/4 Series II, sold for £2,400; and an awesome but non-running 1973 Aston Martin V8 Banham converted convertible, sold for £6,700. The next important classic car auction is Coys True Greats to be held at the Business Design Centre, 52 Upper Street, Islington, London N1, viewing Sunday 9th December 12.00 noon to 5.00pm and Monday 10th December 10.00am to 6.30pm; sale itself 6.30pm Monday 10th December.

Repossessed personal imports didn't exactly set the halls alight either with just £13,650 bid for a 22,000 mile 99T BMW Z3 2.8 and £22,500 for a 42,000 mile 99T Mercedes SL320, possibly because the snatchback squad forgot the hard-top.

  The car was exported to Australia by its original owner and resided there for some thirty years, benefiting from the warm dry climate. Imported back into the UK in 1991, the vehicle was reallocated its original Coventry registration number. It is still in its original livery of Old English White with red leather trim, and has an interesting history having appeared in the TV series, Neighbours, while still in Australia.

  The left-hand drive also spent some of its early years in the United States. It was then imported back to Germany in July 1986 when it was purchased by the President of the German Classic Porsche 911 Club, Wolfram Thonemann, who obtained the apt registration 'K-RS 911’. During his ownership, the car was successfully campaigned on racing circuits in Germany and around Europe, even becoming the Europa Cup Class 6 Champion of 1987.  In December 1996 the car changed hands and continued its motorsport legacy competing in international classic rallies, including prestigious events such as the Hockenheim Regularity Rally, Mont Ventoux, Modena Cento Ore, Tour De España, and Tour Auto, where it won the Regularity class in 2009.  Characteristic features of the car include Fuchs alloy wheels, distinctive fibreglass front bumper and iconic ducktail spoiler.
