Who should get the second car? 4 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Now, my inital plan was for her to take over our current car - R-reg Rover 200 - and for me to get a diesel, so as to save fuel costs. However, following the ingenious method Honest John suggested, I have now measured the fuel consumption on the Rover, and it is giving 39.9, which is pretty good. I suspect I won't save that much money by switching to diesel, and that perhaps better value would be to buy a second petrol car for herself. -

Sneaky filling station 19 May 2008 (Forum)
Local station (Total branded) has 6 diesel pumps. 4 seem to dispense Total "Excellium" which is 128.9p per litre. Fortunately I read the unit price on the LCD dsplay before I started dispensing fuel. I jib at paying 123.9 but I wonder how many other people check the unit cost per litre on the pump before they start filling their tank? -

Merry xmas one and all, its that Golf Mk 2 diesel again. There is a rubberpipe/hose that runs from a nipple under the carb ( do Diesels have a carb ?) to a nipple on the non injector side of the cylinder, its leaking fuel and corroded. does any one know the correct name for this bit, and more importantly where I can buy piece of it about half a metere long, its not reinforced by the way, and its just a push fit, its quite a small bore. -

Shell vs supermarket 27 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I don't intend to cause regurgitation of a lot of ill-informed arguments, but I think an observation of mine is worth sharing. Recently I have been attempting to use Shell diesel when possible, but the last 4 times I have filled my Polo have been twice from the Shell station and twice at Tesco. Both times at Tesco I have noticed the fuel markedly more frothy and difficult to get brimmed full (to measure fuel consumption - anally retentive I know...) -
HJ Renault ECO2 diesel - HJ-PR advertorial drivel 20 May 2011 (Forum)
As well as downsizing (and down weighting), it has a low pressure Exhaust Gas Recirculation system. This takes hot exhaust gases after they have passed through the diesel particulate filter, cools them, passes them back through the intercooler at relatively low pressure, then recombusts them at optimum temperature in the combustion chambers. Multi injection that involves injecting fuel during the combustion process as well as before helps create the necessary temperature to regenerate the particulate filter, however the engine is being used. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 99 2.0 HDi P0230 Not starting. Injectors not firin 2 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Hi guys, Long story so here goes.... Bought a 306 HDi that had petrol put into it. The car was drained of the fuel and diesel refilled. Car ran but was a bit lumpy. THe car was traded in at a local garage and a lad bought it, 'drove' it home, parked it up. A friend bought it and decided to change the fuel filter and empty the fuel lines as he said he could smell petrol still. -
Kia Sportage - Halfords Issue 8 Feb 2024 (Forum)
Hi all, Looking for a bit of advise regarding an issue I've had which I have been lead to believe may be a result of Halfords Auto centres mistake. I have diesel car with a mechanical high pressure fuel pump and no on tank pump, which had a fuel filter replacement last year combined with a service at Halfords Auto centre. Within about 1500 miles I had intermittent 'surges' but not consistently, they felt more like a tiny judder. -
