  • A20 Dover TAP has been removed! 19 Jul 2017 (Forum)
I can attest to this, I'm no slouch on the road but want to keep my licence free from points   Problem for UK motorists is that there were SPECS cameras to enforce compliance ...  the other direction retained the national speed limit throught.
  • Headlight dazzle prevention 7 Dec 2016 (Forum)
Several ‘things’ are necessary for measuring the amount of light needed, including, but probably not restricted to, a camera, maps, and sensors measuring acceleration, steering, levelling and ambient light/rain.   Algorithms are involved and CAN bus systems to individually control the light output of LED pixels.  It sounds very clever and no doubt expensive.
  • HJ letters 10th May 2013 17 Jun 2013 (Forum)
This was at one point the "crash for cash" capital of the universe.  The buses there were the first ones to have video cameras on permanent recording mode pointing forwards through the windscreen, because they were plagued by drivers who would slam their brakes on deliberately, cause a crash, after which all five of the car's occupants would jump out wincing and rubbing their necks.
  • Citroen C1 - Pot hole damage council reject claim 18 Apr 2013 (Forum)
And the road had been checked two weeks previous ! I actually have the incident caught on incar camera and the car literally jumped in the air and the g force sensor went off the scale ! I haven't sent the video to the council, keeping that for rainy day. Anyone else had similar issue with council claims ?
  • Audi A4 - Nominating 12 Apr 2013 (Forum)
I received a speeding ticket and i was not the driver at the time of the alleged offence nor did i give permission for them to use my vehicle so after finding out who it was, i nominated that person. The problem is they live abroad and the police camera enforcement unit keeps harassing me for more information. Ive replied to them stating that i have provided all the information i have and they should get in touch with him directly, they have no photographic evidence of who was driving apparently, but they still wont leave me alone.
  • VW Passat estate - NIP 24 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Today he received a NIP from a third party who had forwarded it to him that is dated "15th October 2012". He was doing 61 approaching a 40mph on a bend & the manual device camera was just around the bend. Are they allowed to retropectively change the date on a NIP & are their any rules governing where police can park when it is close to a bend 60mph going into a 40.?
  • Any - Occlusive numberplates 8 Sep 2012 (Forum)
To make sure my eyes were not deceiving me I tried the same with all the parked cars for the next 50 yds and they were all perfectly legible under headlights. I said to SWMBO that the numberplates must be made to defeat the gantry cameras that register average speed through a section but she thinks I am a conspiracy nut.  Has anybody else come across them ?
  • Any - Tailgating 28 Nov 2010 (Forum)
The reason I ask it that most weekends I drive along a stretch of road that has a 30/40mph mix plus a number of speed cameras. It used to be 40/60 but was reduced following an accident that, I suspect, the lower limit would not have prevented. In reality the speed limit is rather on the low side for the road. The problem is that because people could drive faster just as safely there is a lot of tailgating on this stretch of road.
  • Second offence? 22 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Got 66 and 69 on the breathaliser In my first 2 years of driving i picked up too many points (never been a boy racer but got unlucky with the camera guns, flashed in an area i didnt know etc). My license was suspended - Didnt say i was banned but i guess i was as i wasnt allowed to drive but i rememeber suspended being the term they used. I had to retake my driving test i think this was about 8 or so years ago.
  • Insurance Dilemma - Informing Insurer of Points 4 Sep 2009 (Forum)
My wife's insurance is due for renewal and when she checked the form she realised that she hadn't informed them of the 3 speed camera points that I had picked up. Unfortunately she had been at fault in a rear end shunt this year (after I got the points) which apparently has already cost over £4000 with a personal injury claim still in progress.
  • Eyes in the back of their heads ? 22 Aug 2009 (Forum)
London, ended up behind a 5 Series Beemer late reg Police estate. This thing had mounted on the rear roof, facing backwards , a camera lens. Have never seen it before . Is that also linked to the ANPR or merely for recording of evidence ( or both ? ) Shame that this sort of kit doesn't deter the kind of idiotic driver that just a mile earlier on the same road ; Tried to pull out without indicating infront of me , to do a U turn, in a car with very dark side glass , so I only just saw he was on the phone, indeed only just saw there was a driver in the car....
  • Speeding ticket photo question [Read only] 22 Apr 2009 (Forum)
The photo is of the front of my car but at the time II didn't have a front number plate (was damaged in a shunt) so the registration is not visible in the photo. I presume they got my reg from the rear plate using the ANPR camera in the front of the van - or a plod was quick with his notebook - but my question obviously - is this ticket legal given that at the point the speed was measured by cars indentity could not be known and should I plead not guilty , or could they use the ANPR evidence to back it up even though it won't have a speed readout?
  • Number plate mystery 7 Mar 2009 (Forum)
If you're running a huge criminal scam, why pick a number which is going to alert every patrol car and anpr camera in the country ? Ted
  • If you could change one piece of legislation...... 28 Jan 2009 (Forum)
-Tougher penalties for uninsured drivers. -Embark on a road-building programme to bring us into the 21st century. -Replace all speed cameras with radar speed signs and traffic police. -Bring back fixed fuel duty, abolish escalator. -Replace all unsightly traffic calming measures with radar speed signs.
  • How many points!? 25 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Talking to a friend in the office today and he told that he's managed to get 9 points on his licence in the space of 2 hours! He's had a clean licence for 20 odd years but got caught from the same mobile police camera van on the same stretch of road within 2 hours! needless to say he was a bit upset when NIP's came through the door totalling £180 and his insurance will rocket. 1st one was 38mph in 30 zone, then 39mph and then 41mph in a 30 zone.
  • Red light in front and Ambulance behind 22 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Should I have waited for green light and hold up the Ambulance? what about if there was traffic light camera? Your opinions needed.
  • What was this? Overhead gantry+speeding car 24 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I thought to myself "Rather you than me" as he went under a gantry (And this is where I would like to know if I was imagining things) and I saw some flashes and the faint outline of a speed camera sign displayed on the dot matrix displays. Is this a genuine feature of the gantries - warning when someone has been caught? A test mode of some sort left activated? Just the flash 'leaking' through to the oncoming traffic display side of the gantry?
  • If a tree falls over in a forest... 5 Jun 2008 (Forum)
However, this is a junction with which you are very familiar, there is unobstructed vision for a long way along all the roads, weather is perfect visibility, and there are no other cars anywhere near the junction. There are no cameras or cops anywhere near. What would you do? Would you jump the lights? Or would you stop and wait until they have turned green? Personally, I would jump the lights. This is because laws are blunt instruments and not always the absolute decider of what is morally right.
  • Dangerous driving by a taxi 4 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Tonight a taxi overtook me by crossing double white lines at about 50 in a 30 limit; 200 yards further along, approaching a queue at traffic lights in the left lane of the dual carriageway, it took the right-turn-only right lane, then cut across the front of the left lane queue at speed and disappeared up the road. Now I am all for making progress and I abhor revenue cameras, but this kind of idiocy is really not what one expects or should allow from a licensed hackney carriage. I couldn't read the taxi number off the side as it shot past, but I did note the registration number; my question is, is it worth reporting this to either the boys in blue or the local council, or is an unsupported allegation a waste of time?
  • The unfairness of it all 23 Jan 2008 (Forum)
, will be driving around in a group one car if im lucky enough to get a courtesy car, and this idiot will get off with no points (waste of time ringing the police these days), but of course if I drive through a speed camera a few mph over the limit i will get hammered, my car crumpled a little too well - where can i get a family car with NO crumple zone?, and hardly a scratch on his van how did it come to this why arent we systematically getting idiots like this off the road?
