Mercedes C class, Skoda Yeti - What to buy for longevity of ownership? 11 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Given that I only do @9000 miles a year I am therefore looking for a petrol automatic estate or crossover capable of seating 4 adults in comfort and with room in the boot for a labrador. Reasonable running costs would be good too, but I just want a car that will last if such a thing is still made. So far I have found two that I like and would welcome opinions on these plus any others I may have overlooked. -
MINI One D - Mini one D doesn't start when engine is hot 2 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Once I have been driving the car and the engine is hot, if I was to turn it off and leave it ten minutes, I would struggle to get it started. It sometime takes me 15 minutes to get it running. I normally try switching on and off the ignition a few times to engage the warm up for the diesel, then turn on the engine and pump the accelerator and that normally gets it going. I have had this problem for about 6 months now maybe longer and it seems to be getting worse. -
Trading Down? 1 Oct 2015 (Forum)
In terms of what I need going forward it's something that meets: Long term ownership/reliability. Family saloon/Hatch size Relatively cheap to run. Auto Diesel. My 3 series is a 64 plate and is (at least on webuyany...com) around £19.5k and I am looking at cars around the 12 - 14/15 mark. So far I have found: Avensis 2.2 DCAT on an 13 plate w/30k miles. -
Mitsubishi Outlander - VAG 2.0 engined outlander losing power 4 Sep 2015 (Forum)
In in my attempts I also placed in neutral and blipped the throttle which caused the revs to rise, so the engine was running just wouldn't deliver power. This happened two further times within an hour or so of the first incident, each time on an incline when applying a bit more throttle to maintain speed, each time before coming to a halt I restarted the engine and it carried on. -
Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - 04 2.0 Smoke on start up 22 Aug 2015 (Forum)
Any idea where this might be or any other suggestions? Have people who have experienced the major fuel pump problem noticed this in the run up its failure? -
Citroen picasso 1.6 hdi - Injector seals - picasso hdi - damage by garage 11 Aug 2015 (Forum)
Hi, I am looking for some advise, my car recently started to make a tick tick noise, we took it to the local garage who advised it was the injector seals however this can be a tricky job and quoted us £200 max may come in less depending on the work, the garage called after 2 days to say one of the injectors was stuck and they would have to smash the head in order to get the injector out, at a cost of £780 with a second hand head with 30 day warranty, after calling some other garages we were advised that there should be no reason to smash the head and to get the car removed from that garage so we asked them to put the car back together so we could take it elsewhere, they advised this would not be possible as the car no longer run, we had to tow the car to another garage as it would not even turn over, the other garage removed the injector which now need to be replaced however upon starting the car it was clear the other injectors had been damaged so all 4 needed replacing, the car drove in perfect just with a ticking noise yet came out a non runner, I am unable to prove that the garage damaged the injectors but this is very obvious, how do I stand now as I don't see what I should be out of pocket due to the incompetance of the original garage, sorry for the long post...hoping someone can advise me -
Citroen Berlingo Multispace 1.9 IDI - Rough Starting 2 Jun 2015 (Forum)
Once running though it’s fine and pulling like a train as usual. Trips to Liverpool and Leicester return normal fuel consumption and other performance. -
Nissan Almera Tino - Fuel pump problem? 2 May 2015 (Forum)
On starting the engine, it can sometimes take up to 60 seconds before the engine will turn over. When it does start, clouds of white smoke come from the exhaust. When the car is started, it runs perfectly. The problem appears to be particularly bad if cold/damp/wet. One thing that we have realised (and this explains why we've been able to be so lazy about fixing the problem...) is that if the car is parked facing downhill, it starts first time. -
VW Passat 2015 B8 - Fold flat loading bay designed out ! 30 Jan 2015 (Forum)
It also frustrates me because I put off ordering a new Passat until the B8 was available, and now I wish I had ordered a B7 - and no I can't buy one of these because It would be a factory order and not from pre-ordered dealer stock which are in the run-out. -
FIAT Doblo 1.9 turbo diesel multijet - Fiat Doblo 1.9 Multi jet engine rattle, injectors? 4 Jan 2015 (Forum)
We've bought a 2008 Doblo 1.9 Multijet that's covered 53000 miles. We bought it knowing it needed work as it is running rough and has a rattle from the engine. Listening to it its very strange as there is a light booming resonance coming from the airbox which sounds like the hose is off which it might be but I couldn't see it was hanging off or lose anywhere with a quick look? -
Renault Laguna 2.2 Dci Year 2002 Estate UK Reg - Water from Header Tank and Injector issue (HELP) ! 29 Dec 2014 (Forum)
Adding to this - I have good general understanding of cars, but this is beyond me, the car sounds OK when running, but the water back presure is making it impossible to move, if I tighten the header Radiator Cap it expands the hoses all of them too much, so there is a big issue, the Oil is OK NOT milky, thats about it, I am lost to what to do. -
Renault Scenic 1.5 diesel 2005 model (facelift) - Electrical issues stopping car from starting 2 Dec 2014 (Forum)
Initially the car stated "low oil pressure" and "hand brake failure" with a loud beep. The engine hardly tried to turn over and instead the engine fan run for ages. The engine after it was left for a while was attempted again and once again I got the fault light as well as practically every fault light going. The car also thanked me by locking me within the vehicle for around 5minutes. -
Kia Carens CRDi Auto - Used Car Question - Kia Carens vs Zafira 31 Oct 2014 (Forum)
Vauxhall Zafia While i was initially looking at the Zafira and have found a model 2009 Exlusiv 1.6 Petrol thats has 56K miles on it ; recenly i have found a listing for a 2010 Kia Carens Diesel Automatic that run around 30K miles and seems to be an interesting choice As i have never owned a diesel before ; to help make my decision i wanted to get some feedback from experienced folks here as to - Servicing and Manitainence costs for the Kia Diesel Auto vs Zafira Petrol Manual - As the mileage on the Kia is low would that usually give me a trouble free ride as compared to the zafira ? -
Ford Focus - Intermittent judder / injector problem 15 Oct 2014 (Forum)
I could hear one of the injectors making a ticking / pinking sound so accept this diagnosis. BTW the problems developed while I was running quite low on fuel, but after filling up (at JET) it seemed to get even worse, before breaking down. Ford garage diagnosed same - one faulty injector, replaced the injector (and fuel filter), but then told me a second inject has also gone immediately. -
SEAT Ibiza - Car occasionally wont start - wont even turn over 13 Oct 2014 (Forum)
This issue appears to be exacerbated by a warm car (why I don't know, but if it's been left in the sun for any time is much more likely to have trouble starting). Once it's started it runs fine, and normally if I subsequently stop it (say to fill up with petrol) it will start fine first attempt. But if I leave it any length of time, the issue can start up again. Additional (probably irrelevant) information The car has an after-market immobiliser fitted, (Centurion Carshield) I have no idea how it works, so don't know if it's even possible to be related, but thought I'd add it! -
Hyundai ix20 - What cars will take a 44ins wide load? 30 Sep 2014 (Forum)
The Tourneo Connect will but we have to have an automatic and Ford have only made it in an automatic petrol version that's v expensive to buy and run. I thought a VW Tour an would do, but it has a steel 'lug' either side of the boot space which reduces width dramatically. I then tried the Saharan/Alhambra but their boots are 43.5ins, so no good. -
Skoda Fabia 2 - New Fabia 1.2 12V starting problem. Is it common? 18 Sep 2014 (Forum)
It's been fine since that incident a couple of weeks back, until yesterday morning when it again completely refused to start. Skoda Assist technician came out, tested various loom connections and managed to get it running, but he wasn't happy so eventually trailered it to the local Skoda dealer for more diagnostics. He believes the "ECU might need reprogramming" which seems unusual for a 2014 car. Anyone know if this is a common problem on the 1.2 12V motor? -
Ford Fiesta 1.25 Zetec - Unusual hot air/heating problem 12 Aug 2014 (Forum)
At first I planned to swap the heater control valve with an OE replacement, but after running the car for a couple of days now I’ve noticed that the issue is intermittent. Unlike other threads I’ve read on the www where the poster has either permanently hot OR permanently cold air, mine seems to only get stuck on hot half way through my commute to work which is about 10 miles. -
2002 Ford Ka 1.3i - Buying advice - Buying a cheap temporary car, advice needed 12 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I'm able to cycle to work 5 days a week so my old car was just sitting on the drive losing value. I just want something cheap that'll do for a run around on weekends and doing the weekly shop. My younger brother is wanting to learn how to drive and it could be ideal for him to learn how to drive in while I've got it for the next year or so (I plan on getting something nicer down the line again). -
Skoda - Any suggestions a next second hand car please? 1 Jul 2014 (Forum)
His car at moment is a Ford maverick - great for countryside and getting in and out - poor for running costs. So the plans are to let this one go when we have found the VW replacement. I thought a Skoda Yeti would be good but price - I think it is not justified for us at moment and maybe when they become 'second hand'.
