Help Required with New Car Options Please 23 Nov 2011 (Forum)
My requirements are: automatic, 5-door, 5-seater, reliable, economical, practical (i.e. good seat manoeuvrability) not French or Italian (sorry but reliability is important) with air-con, electric retractable mirrors, plenty of leg room in rear with height sufficient for 6 footer son/husband, auto lighting and wipers, bluetooth for handsfree phone use, USB socket for interactive i-pod listening, preferably sat-nav, ABS and all safety acronyms, I would love the keyless entry and start I have with the mini but this seems in short supply (Note has it). -
Vauxhall Astra 1.9 CDTI SRi 150 - 08/08 Vauxhall Astra 1.9 CDTI SRi Gearbox Failure 9 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Then 3 weeks after the warranty expired the Air con compressor unit failed, nearly £600 worth. However, I fought my corner with Vauxhall as it was so soon after the warranty expired and as a non serviceable part that you dont expect to replace after 3 years they agreed to pay 90% of the cost which was nice of them. -
BMW 3-Series E36 (1991 - 1998) - Electrical Problems with Heater Control 2 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Hi all, I bought the above a year and a half ago - and other than having to replace a battery up until the summer this year its been fine. Now I know summer would make more of a demand on my air con, and at same time I got a stereo fitted at Halfords where I know they did make a bit of a meal out of it - and despite them faffing on, and fitting a new aerial wire thingy (technical term?) my radio stopped working where reception was fine before. -
2004 Megane 1.5 dCi 100 24 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I have done 650 miles in a day in this car with no discomfort at all. 5. Sharp handling on 17'' alloys. 6. Air con works well, cools down rapidly. 7. That rear styling. 8. Huge glove box. You could fit another passenger in there... 9. Overall fit and finish is good, a huge improvement on previous Renaults. 10. -

MOT Asian style 6 Mar 2003 (Forum)
You have to bring your vehicle and nowhere to park unless you pay one of the cruising traffic cops to stay away from it. Maybe 2-300 people. It's all out in the open so no air-con. Smoke test first, then buy your mandatory insurance, then inspector stencils engine and frame number on your form and he's supposed to check about 30 things on the list. G he's always laughing about this. -
Vectra - How much do you reckon... 17 Sep 2008 (Forum)
It has had (within the last two months) 4 brand new very good tyres put on it, it has a 4 disc changer, the full (but none colour) information screen, 16" alloys, air con, rain sensing wipers, dimming mirror, cruise control and all that jazz. There's nothing wrong with the car apart from being the most boring piece of machinery I've ever used (and I'm including the kettle in that statement). -
Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - Car seats - not what they used to be... 15 Jul 2008 (Forum)
of moisture away from the skin and I felt legs, back and backside getting hot and it?s been a cool day (15° with air-con on). Has anybody else noticed this? I drove a 2002 model as a courtesy car some years ago and recalled the seating to be on a par with my old model. I found the Mondeo to be similar. So far, the car that wins hands-down for driver-seat comfort is the Octavia Estate (my budget is £250+VAT 15k miles non-maintained) and I don? -
New golf has arrived - first questions! 5 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Hated it at first because it's just so much bigger than Polo and it was taking me twice as long to do every little manouvre but I think I'm getting the hang of it now and the air con is brilliant! It is a really nice car to look at - I'm so glad I went for the Sport 3 dr instead of the stodgy five door SE. I have some questions, and I have read the manual but it's not the most helpful of things (keeps telling me I can set things via the convenience menu which I don't have because I didn't spec the multi display computer sat nav doodah). -
V220 - Apalling service at Halfords Redhill 21 Aug 2013 (Forum)
After she paid for this awful service, she drove away and realised that the heater was blowing hot air non stop and that they had broken the air con and heater. She took it back and they said "it was like that beofre - must have been" my girlfriend didn't accept this and explained how it was all working perfectly until they touched it and was told that they 'can't do anything about it, need a diagnostics piece of equipment'. -
Honda Civic - Is this car worth considering? 8 May 2019 (Forum)
He is a Hungarian gentleman, who is leaving UK, hence selling the car. Issues with the car at that time:- 1) Air Con was not cooling 2) Only 1 key 3) A little uneven panel gaps around the front grille and bonnet I was concerned about the AC not cooling, wondering whether it could be a condenser leak / failure I have been informed by the seller that the AC fault was with the clutch on the compressor, that has now been fixed. -

Seat Ibiza - Please help - rejecting a vehicle 4 Nov 2017 (Forum)
Also noticed a strong smell of petrol coming from the car when getting out of it, the vent on the dash board sounded like it had gas escaping from it when the heating or air con was on. Also window wipers were not working as they should. I sought advice from CAB and Which? Legal and they advised I was within my right to reject the vehicle as I had owned it less than a week by this point. -
Ford Fiesta 1.6tdci Titanium - Cat C repaired car - major issues, any advice 28 Jun 2012 (Forum)
I went to the garage and they showed me a bent chassis leg, a broken engine mount bracket that had had the bolt simply welded back on and a damaged inner supprt panel. There was dented air con pipes and leaking coolant hoses. The guys at the garage said that this car had obviously been involved in quite a heavy front end impact. They also said that the cambelt had probably snapped due to the mis-alignment of the belt on the fuel and cam pulleys casued by a shift to the engine (probably upon collision) Ford have quoted £5,400 for a replacement engine and fuel pump to be fitted and just over £2,000 for bodywork repairs (although I admit I thinksome of this is unneccassary). -
Honda Jazz - Honda Jazz 2007 - to sc*** or attempt fix? 12 Jul 2025 (Forum)
It has a few war wound parking dings, a minor sc***e on passenger door, a ding on drivers front wing and the air con doesn't and hasn't since she had it( I suspect the condenser is holed as the front bumper is a slightly different colour so maybe had a minor prang before we had it). As a car to learn to drive and get experience it has been excellent and I've done the yearly servicing including the CVT oil (ie: it doesn't have the notorious judder on take off) Mechanically the engine and drivetrain have been very reliable. -
Peugeot 405 GL 1991 (carb) - Engine Cooling fans not working 4 Jul 2012 (Forum)
I've been driving my 405 GL since its manufacture. It is a model fitted with air-con. 5 years ago I was forced to replace the entire engine. Since then I have had problems with the cooling fans. Due to a leakage I have also not been able to restore my aircon. Because of the shoddy work done, I had to download a Haynes Manual in order to get things right again. -
Fiat Grande Punto 1.9 - Had the car only 3months..what are my rights! 22 May 2012 (Forum)
After about a month and a half i started to notice that when the car is in neutral you can feel the whole car vibrate slightly, and if the air con is on the vibrations increase more. At first I tryed not to think much off it, I thought I was being a bit fussy but after a month just to be safe i took it to my local MOT and Service centre, thinking it could possibly be a worn engine mount. -
Citroen C4 Picasso 7-st (2007 - ) - - 10 day hire car review 12 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Cruise control was easy to use, showing set speed on dash and +/- buttons to adjust on wheel. Lots of cubby holes, and drinks bin with air con, although they were bit small, would have preferred less of them, but bigger. Panoramic windscreen was a major boon with high Euro traffic lights (side ones were hard to see, so could push visor back and look up if at front of queue. -
Driving the Amalfi Coast and Naples 5 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Let me put in a good word for the Fiat Panda we hired. Though its 1.2 petrol engine seemed gutless at times, everything else about it was good. Great air-con, slick gearbox, sharp brakes, good handling, comfortable. It was the right size for the roads and was great fun to drive. But does it really need a “city” setting for the power-steering? -
Ford Focus Zetec 5 Dr 1.6 Tdci (2011 mark3) - Control panel lights and cAN bus issues 23 Jan 2015 (Forum)
There has also been one instance of returning to the car in a car park to find all of the side windows fully open (the car has "global opening /closing"), and another occassion where the radiator cooling fan stayed on after the car was locked - cold day after a short run of 15 miles, air con switched off, and temp gauge showing normal reading - the fan when off after car restarted and switched off. Yesterday, for the first time the amber engine warning symbol came on.
