Civic Engine management warning light. 12 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Problem is I have made a few attempts to journey to the dealers when it came on and (sods law again) each time it goes off before I get there. I now just ignore it when it comes on as I know it will only be on for a few days. The car runs ok, Should I be concerned?, the service manager gives me the impression I should not be, He is a genuine guy but should trust him in his judgement. -
Fast forward how many years? 8 Dec 2006 (Forum)
etc vehicles to the scrapyard or museums because they are socially unacceptable and prohibitively expensive to run. In the main, people won?t be: - Living in rural areas, unless there is decent public transport or they are allowed personal mobility at an affordable price - Travelling/driving much for leisure/pleasure purposes - Enjoying so much wealth, because the UK has become expensive and uncompetitive, and the economy has slowed ? -
Strange electrical problem - Ford Escort 30 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Now any attempt to turn the lights on elicits the warning squeal the car gives when you try to get out with the lights on, even with all the doors closed and engine running. The car, a 1.6 16v Escort, has previously refused to start owing to the fuel pump relay unplugging itself over bumps and potholes. I suspect a relay in this case too, perhaps one that has welded itself closed or something. -
Used Car dealers / Salesmen 14 Nov 2006 (Forum)
So far this has been my limited experience with Car dealers/ salesmen... Is it a seller's market at the moment? Are Dealers run off their feet with buyers? Does anyone have any similar experiences? -
Help: Broken VW Golf driver's door lock 8 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I'm hoping that someone knowledgeable can also tell me whether the central locking-equipped car's drivers door lock barrel version will fit my mum's car, so I can run off to the scrappers rather than paying for a new one. I'd be most grateful for any advice Thanks in advance -
Honda Civic - 100,000 miles 29 Oct 2006 (Forum)
What preventative maintenance would you recommend? I guess I really should do the atf. Is the sticking window an MOT issue? Anyone else run one of these up to really high mileage? What faults did you encounter? Thanks in advance Ed. -
Damage to alloys 26 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I'm having a bit of a run of bad luck with the C5 at present, the latest being a puncture that couldn't be repaired. I took the car to the nearest supplier (national chain) at first but, after they told me the puncture couldn't be repaired, they couldn't provide the tyre I wanted, after saying they could. -
Peug 106 electrical buzzing noise?? 22 Oct 2006 (Forum)
However it has retured and happens when i am driving and not when switching off its like a buzzing - sort of noise i guess may happen if a switch is somewhere stuck between off and on - a similar noise can be heard by half pressing in light swich in a house-. The car seems to be running ok. I dont want to spend money - or as little as possible- if i can avoid it as i am getting of the car in a couple of months although i am anxious to avoid a breakdown as i need the car for work, Has anyone any ideas of what to check for??? -
Nissan Primera 2.18 Diesel 04 12 Oct 2006 (Forum)
If this is the caseand they strip it down and if they find corrosion due to water penetration then my warranty would not be valid and I am looking at a £2,000 bill. How can this be? I still have two years to run on my warranty. How can I tell if they are being truthful or trying to get out of their obligations under the warranty? Thanks Pam Harris -
HELP!! No fuel to engine-MK3 Golf Diesel 8 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Driving from Stoke to Shrewsbury this morning and the engine began to lose power and then cut off....Parked up called the AA out who csiad it was more likely the Fuel Filter as he could see air going from the filer through to the engine (this was my thought as I run on biodiesel however it had been changed in June). Got the car started and carried onto Shrewsbury (only 5 miles out at this time). The car did the same, twice. We got the AA to pick us up and take us home. -
VW Passat TDI first service problem 16 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I called the garage up and they said '..........possibly a glitch, bring it in and we'll reset it' Hmmm......if they do that, and don't change the oil at the same time, will the car still monitor the existing oil properly or will it be confused and let the car run with nackered oil later on? Is it possible for me to detemine whether or not they did or didn't reset the service flag at 9900 miles? (just so I know the score). Your advice appreciated -
2001 A4 130BHP TDI alternator / fan belt 13 Sep 2006 (Forum)
The problem appears to be that the pulley on the alternator has moved forward and the fan belt came off and was running on the shaft between the pulley and the alternator itself . As far as I know the car was pulled off the road and stopped within a few minutes of it happening. Am I likely to have done any lasting damage to the car? -
I got the Vectra 3.2 - happy so far 12 Sep 2006 (Forum)
. :-) However initially I am going to talk to the salesman and suggest the car wasn't fully 114 point checked before delivery... Off to Huddersfield tonight so first long run (if you exclude collection from Luton). -
97 P11 Primera cowl cover 26 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Hi everyone, I was changing wiper pivots on the car and I wonder if the cowl cover has to be sealed really tight to the windshiled (the windshield side of the cover). When I was taking it off the plastic lip that runs along the cover didn't seem to have any traces of sealant (or may be it dried up over time). Should I apply some sealant to it ? If yes, of what kind ? I've got some silicone sealant, but I fear it will glue too hard and it will be a nightmare to get off later if required. -
156GTA/Mits VR4 18 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Price to buy is a question I don't really know the answer to yet, but I'd be surprised if I'm willing to spend more than £10k, and probably less than that. Price to run on the other hand isn't quite as important, I'm not made of money but I'm currently driving a group 19 car which does an average of 25mpg, and I can accept that. -
Access to Production Information 12 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Whilst it has been mechanically reliable there have been a number of bodywork issues:- 1 Snugtop with rusty hinges and paint bubbles replaced under warranty 2 Rusty Locking wheel nuts replaced under warranty 3 Corrosion on sidestep / running board replaced under warranty 4 Paint osmosis on bonnet, resprayed under warranty 5 Rust inside drivers door frame repaired under warranty. This appears to me quite a lot of problems for an nineteen month old UK sourced, UK specified vehicle. -
Sat Nav - standalone or PDA? 1 Aug 2006 (Forum)
In which case why not just buy a standalone, plug it in and get on with it. especially as we are off to France in a fortnight and I want it up and running for our touring holdiay over there. I am not too worried about the relative costs involved and am more concerned about hassle free reliability. I would be very interested to hear any views on using Tomtom on a phone/PDA set up. -
Fuel cleaner killed my Audi A4 Cab 26 Jul 2006 (Forum)
It continued to splutter and cough on acceleration and it now drives like a 50bhp car as apposed to it's original 160bhp (or there abouts). Arghhhhhhhh .... the fuel cleaner has killed my car !!!! What do i do ? Run out the petrol in the tank and fill up with clean fuel ? or do i replaced the fuel filter ? Replace the injectors ? Take it to Audi, tell them what i've done ... then sit there while they laugh ... -
VW Passat S TDi PD (130) Auto 25 Jul 2006 (Forum)
My question is with regards to Fuel Economy, I have the computer on board which works out the MPG whilst driving and on average until reset at every refill. This car is driven 75% around town and 25% on a run and only seems to be returning 320 miles to a full tank of diesel (last fill up was 54.00 litres) and the computer works it out to be an average of only 30 'ish MPG and 320 miles covered - seems a tad low to me ?? -
a kind deed 21 Jul 2006 (Forum)
we hear so much about motorists inconsideration for those on foot that I thought last weeks display of kindness worth a mention. while on holiday on the west coast of scotland my family crossed to the island of lismore by the passenger ferry from appin ,after walking for about 3 miles it was very obvious that we were going to get soaked by a cloudburst so turned to return to the ferry but 2 minutes later mr and mrs defender and 2 children were soaked to the skin and it didnt look like we were going to be back in time for the next ferry so would have an hour to wait. however a kind chap with a small lorry took pity and although he had his cab full he took his passengers to the boat and returned to collect us ,the water was running out of our clothes by this time but there was no thought about his cab getting soaked ,despite having to go a bit further to turn he got us back to the boat which his mate asked to wait for us, he would take nothing for his trouble and just said it could have been his family I hope I can repay him some day even if only by passing his good deed on to someone else
