Car Tax/MOT problem 30 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Two weeks on, there is still no sign of the springs arriving at the vauxhall dealer and they have no idea when they will get them. However, the cars third birthday is 1st September 2007. This is when both the tax and MOT run out. I can't get tax becasue it has not yet passed the MOT. Assuming that the parts come in after the 1st, will I still be able to drive the car - without valid road tax - to the garage to have the work done and the MOT certificate issued? -
98 Megane gearbox problems after floods 29 Jun 2007 (Forum)
The resulting wave went over the roof of my car (and the cars in front and behind), rocking the car on its suspension. The engine continued running and I was able to continue driving. Steam came out of the bonnet for several minutes afterwards, but the temperature gauge stayed at normal. Since then it has been very difficult to get the car into gear, especially 1st and 2nd - it can take 5-6 attempts of trying to put it into gear, lifting the clutch, depressing the clutch and trying again to get the car into gear. -
Proton Coupe 1.8 - Been Standing 8 Jun 2007 (Forum)
the back discs do not appear to be ridding themselves of the rust and the handbrake no longer works well it barely makes a contact, will not hold the car, so it seems that there is no fluid getting to the rear brakes, could this potentially be leading to major work needed on the back or is it something like a cylinder or just the fact it needs a good run? what are the other things i should look for before taking on this if the car has been stood such a while? All help appreciated Jon Amended subject to attract more interest perhaps ? -
Mk3 1.6 Golf misfire - help! 5 Jun 2007 (Forum)
If I open or close the throttle power returns, this leads to some interesting Kangaroo driving in the lower gears ;o) Power is OK when it's not misfiring. Fault doesn't seem to happen when the engine is cold, only after running for a few mins. It is very repeatable at the same throttle position when on the hill on my way home from work. VAG specialist hooked it up to his diagnostics and only faults showing were intermittent throttle position sensor fault and abnormal reading from mass flow (thrust sensor)... -
dvla 30 May 2007 (Forum)
In a moment of apparent madness I click on HJs banner on top here for number plates, choose a non confrontational, non changeable means etc from dvla, order a very expensive set, paid £250 all in, arrived two days later, went today to their office in Worcester, waited 10 minutes, dealt with a very helpful, friendly guy, and why cannot the govt look at this type of organisation who in my opinion actuely work well and try and run the country like this and forget the spin. -

Reporting road defects 10 May 2007 (Forum)
Additionally we are hit with revenue raising measures, such as speed cameras and suspension-damaging 'traffic calming' speed bumps, etc. So I consider it reasonable to report ANY defects I encounter. If you run out of money trying to maintain our roads, write to the Chancellor of the Exchequer. Please bear in mind that should the area I have reported be in the vicinity of a road traffic accident, any insurers involved will be able to discover this report and may sue the local authority for damages resulting from a lack of maintenance. -
aircon/cooling expert needed! - Pug 306 16 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Therefore i am unsure if i have a problem with the fans or sensors. As explained the aircon should soon be up and running so i need fans obviously for engine cooling but for this aswell. The one thing i did notice was that the was a relay from the engine fuse box (bottom left corner) missing that has continuity from the there to each of the 3 relays on the fan housing. -
rover 414i coolant disappears 12 Apr 2007 (Forum)
The last time the cooling system had a problem was two years ago. the coolant was leaking from a gasket under the fuel injection system. This also started giving me timing problems with slow running of the car. engine had lost power at slow speeds and would often stall. and the coolant level had fallen a lot so the hot air was not working inside the car. however the engine was not overheating. so they opened up the top part, replaced the gasket and seal and its been great since then. -
Seat Leon SE TDi 110 BHP Misfire 6 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I have changed the air filter, engine temperature sensor, fuel filter and the N75 valve. I have also run several tank fuels of fuel system cleaner through the engine. A Seat main dealer has also reset the ECU. I would really appreciate any help with this problem. Many thanks -
Renault 21 Savanna emission problems 20 Mar 2007 (Forum)
The mixture has been weakened as much as is physically possible but the problem persists. I am at the end of my tether and have run out of ideas at this point and the MOT is now 5 days away.... I have heard that the Solex carburettors on these are not very good and are prone to problems, elsewhere I have heard that replacing with an equivalent Weber model can help. -
Using visa for car hire & insurance prot 12 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Hi, In the past i have always hired a card using my Natwest Visa card, I tend not to go for the insurance protector that is offered by so many of the car hire companies. In doing so I always run the risk of paying the excess fee should I have an accident or a little scratch on the car. An American colleague of mine told me that if using a Visa card I should be covered under the Visa card insurance policy, which gave me some reassurance. -
East European cars 7 Mar 2007 (Forum)
With EU expansion into Eastern Europe and usual British slackness in law enforcement I wonder if there is a major loophole here and we have a few uninsured deathtraps running around? -
Used PCP deals 27 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Just looking for experiences of others and any comments regarding pros and cons. (I know neither option is the sensible thing, but I might get run over by a bus tomorrow....and the wife gets my money then) -
Diesel injectors serviced- new nozzles 26 Feb 2007 (Forum)
It sounds a lot of money, but in reality it has reinvigorated the engine. The engine starts easier, accelerates quicker, seems more powerful and, most surprisingly, it runs much quieter loosing most of the low rev agricultural clatter. The recommended period for servicing of injectors is 80,000 miles and I had been pushing it. Now I regret not getting the work done earlier. -
Adjusting the tappets - Ford Fiesta 18 Feb 2007 (Forum)
My Fiesta is sounding a bit more healthy now, the head gasket problem has turned out to be cold weather producing steam and short runs producing mayo, after 50 miles there engine has used little water and produces little steam so I think its safe to say that problem is cured. The camshaft rattle has also reduced a little (probably as the new oil gets to work). -

Help - leased car insurance 28 Dec 2006 (Forum)
and with whom - I looked up an online commercial insurer and I would have had to confirm that we were the registered keeper of the vehicle to get a quote. Will anyone insure this car???!! Insurance runs out on Monday so we are getting a bit desperate. -
Replacing a Focus, am I mad? 21 Dec 2006 (Forum)
The Alfa is really only there cause it's SO gorgeous, and I was shocked at the cheapness. I know for me, running costs would be too much and it'd breakdown 15 times a year...right? (can you tell I want to be talked into the Alfa?) Another option is the fully loaded 400. Mum had one identical, but a shade older back in the day - leather, a/c cd changer, fast, economical, never missed a trick. -
A warning for blue badge holders. 17 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Reading the thread on Tesco parking restrictions reminded me of a run-in with a mean council. We were on a trip out to a place in Northumberland with my disabled mother and could not find a space in one of the few blue badge bays close to the entrance to a supermaket.
