Mile-munching estate 1 Jun 2011 (Forum)
I've been going to replace the trusty FIAT estate for almost 2 years, but it just keeps going and going and going. With 330k (km) on the clock, my luck must eventually run out so I've decided a change is needed. Mileage is likely to increase due to work commitments, and given the high second hand prices here in Spain I'm looking for a new car which will be my workhorse for the next five years, by which time it'll have 250-300,000km on the clock. -
Mondeo 2.0 TDCI 53 plate - EGR Pipe / exhaust gas feed carbon build up 16 May 2011 (Forum)
atm the car is very bad when cold and is like riding a donkey, there is a knocking in the engine also that gets slightly better after 5 miles run. when starting the engine after 4 hours there is also alot of exshust smoke which after time settles. So far i have replaced the fuel filter and had an injector reconditioned in past week and cleaned out the EGR myself. -
ford mondeo r reg 2lt petrol - misfire, under power 3 Apr 2011 (Forum)
took it back and they could not replicate the problem but thought it electrical and changed the plugs. i drove it next day for test run and it was back to normal (minor misfire). did my long drive with no problems but today it is back to the kangaroo problem! which is now worse than ever, massively under powered going up hill and jumping badly on flat though still idling ok but now cant throttle through the problem. -
Ford Fiesta Encore 1998, (1.3 petrol Endura-E) - 1998 Fiesta 1.3 fails MOT on emissions 29 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Changing the spark plugs is a last resort, because they will probably snap when I try. It runs fairly smoothly, with no obvious misfires. This is a rusty 13 -year-old car, so if I can't fix it for under £500, I will probably replace it. Any suggestions on what else I should do? -

peugeot 205 gti - 205 gti 1.6 starting/wiring problem 22 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I have fuel and pressure at the rail and a good spark at the plugs. normally after about 10 mins of fiddleing i can get it going and runs well. I have found that the s.a.d does not have continuity through it, which suggests that s nackerd.but shouldn't stop it from starting? I then thought i would bypass the s.a.d plug with a piece of wire just in case it needed the continuity through it to work, however when i do this and then go to put on the ignition the engine turns over without having to turn the key fully. -
Peugeot 207 1.4 VTI Sport petrol - New Peugeot 207 owner - Advice needed 22 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I can just about hear this tapping, while I am stopped at traffic lights for example with the window closed and when I park the car and leave the engine running and get out it’s very noticeable. Also when I start the engine and let it idle for a while I can hear a click noise every so often, when I rev the engine it seems to disappear for a while then it comes back. -
Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCi - White/grey smoke on startup or after idling 15 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Since then I've done 400 miles and making sure only diesel is going in the tank ruling out the petrol theory, the car uses no oil or water and runs at the correct temperature. I've read that white/grey smoke is unburnt diesel, this would explain the poor fuel economy, the car has done 78000 miles and has a patchy service history. Any ideas would be much appreciated, thanks in advance, John M. -
Ford Mondeo - Ford Mondeo 4 2008 model 1.8 litre diesel engine - 21 Feb 2011 (Forum)
the level of oil at that time was exactly between the max and min level and he said its fine After 2 days i checked the oil level and it happens to be the level of oil has just gone up but still not crossing the max level .....so it was exactly in the centre of min and max now its only 20% away from the max ... The car is running smoothly and no issues so far ..... Should I be worried that I have more engine oil and will cause damage to my engine and oil seals ..or just watch the level if it does'nt rise above the max level ... -

Ford Focus - LPG system failure 15 Jan 2011 (Forum)
It then stopped working nearly 2 weeks ago and has not worked at all since then, however I must add that i'm running the car on petrol at the moment, with no problems apart from the huge expense, doubling my fuel costs overnight! I've filled up the LPG system to the brim in the hope that it may help increasing the tank pressure, but the same problem occured. -
Hyundai Getz - Any Engine management experts out there? 15 Dec 2010 (Forum)
It would appear the temp sensors are ok but the lambda reads low when cold. Apparently the ECU's run open loop when cold so in theory the lambda sensor is ignored. Anyone got any ideas please? -
Peugeot 206 - 2001 206 2.0 HDi lights gone crazy & engine cuttin 8 Dec 2010 (Forum)
It also causes the milometer to go every when the indicators flash on Also when the engine is running it cuts out when the brake pedal is pressed. It doesn't cut out if the car is moving & in gear. but for instance when you pull up to a junction & press the clutch & brake pedal it cuts out & also cuts when car is idling & the brake is pressed. -
Ford Focus Saloon - X Reg - Fan belt snapped - What other damage? 3 Dec 2010 (Forum)
When it went above 75% I stopped and he towed me the rest of the way home. Pulleys all seem to run freely and engine starts perfectly. RAC dude is coming back tomorrow to fit a new belt.... But might I have done any other damage?... What should I look for? Cheers guys. -
Immobiliser - insurance co. wants 'certificate' 1 Dec 2010 (Forum)
I've told him the legal position is that he needs to inspect the terms of insurance cover and see if it includes anything about having to prove prescence of security features. I feel they're pushing him about a bit, and I'd probably tell them to take a running jump. Any garage or dealer would probably want paying to produce such a 'certificate'.... What next, having to get a certificate to prove that the doors shut??!! Thoughts? -
Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - 02 2.4 Rough idling - difficult cold starting 27 Nov 2010 (Forum)
About 4 months ago it developed a very rough, noisy idle, with high vibration. Engine performance on A road and motorway speeds is excellent, pulls well, smooth running, 46mpg, etc. I have had the belt and belt tensioner changed but the rough idling is still there. Two garages have had the car on ramps and checked all pulleys, etc and can find nothing wrong. One garage said that they thought the air con compressor is on its way out (very expensive), but another mechanic said they did not believe it had anything to do with the air conditioning as the problem is still there even if the air con is disabled. -
Citroen ZX wont start. Help! 2 Nov 2010 (Forum)
The problem began when I pulled into a parking space - it stalled suddenly just before I stopped. After that it hasn't run at all. I've checked the ignition and it seems to be sparking OK, so my initial though was that it must be fuel. The fuel pump seems to be working as it should, and I changed the carb for one I had lying around in the garage.
