  BMW’s shares have today dropped by a startling nine percent, while Daimler, Fiat, Peugeot and Renault have all seen their share values drop by between four and seven per cent, as the scandal deepens.   The emissions scandal is already shaping into the biggest crisis that the automotive industry has ever faced, with suspicion placed on every major car manufacturer.

  Repatriated to Scotland, the 1913 Argyll 12hp Torpedo Tourer made £34,720, while the other Edwardian on offer – a 1910 Renault AX Tourer – fetched £22,035. Last word should go to the Mercedes-Benz-based Excalbur (below), which amazingly found a buyer for £30,510. The car, which is the last world in vulgarity, took two years to complete with the body being entirely re-sculpted using Kevlar and fibreglass.

  A tow out from a camera-crew and a tyre change from the Sweeps Rob Dominy and Bob Harris soon had the car running again. The little blue Renault 4 stayed in Bulgan this morning, and could be there some time as the crew are now waiting for parts to fix the gearbox. The biggest drama of the day was the Japanese crew in the Nissan Fairlady 240Z rolling the car on a tight right hander, sliding on the gravel into a ditch.

  In the Motability section, a now rare 28k mile 02 reg Yaris Verso sold for £4,600, a 48k mile 02 reg Focus 1.6 Zetec auto estate sold for £5,250, a 10k mile 04 reg Focus 1.6 Zetec estate sold for £7,000, a 6k mile 54 reg C-Max 2.0 TDCI Ghia sold for £10,300, a 14k mile 54 reg C-Max 1.6 TDCI LX sold for £8,850, and a 3k mile 54 reg Renault Modus 1.6 Dynamique auto with a big sunroof sold fort £8,175. There will be a big Ford ex-rental sale open to everyone at Blackbushe next Tuesday 21st June. Entries included 86 Focus, 20 C-Max, 37 Mondeos, 5 Fiestas, 7 Galaxys and 4 Fusions.

  Today, a 122k mile Y reg Mazda Premacy was ‘provisionaled’ at £2,800 by the vendor, a 125k mile 93K Golf 1.8CL sold for £1,000, a lipstick pink 84k mile 2000X SEAT Leon 20VT bid to £3,850, a 118k 2001/51 Citroen C5 HDI90 LX sold for £3,100, a 152k mile (endurance test) 02 reg Nissan new Primera 2.0S M-CVT auto sold for £3,350 and a very smart 107k mile Y reg Daimler V8 LWB that hid its miles extraordinarily well bid to £10,700. I hung around for a bit to watch some Renaults go through. £11,000 was a believable top bid for a 15k mil 03 reg Vel Satis 3.0V6 DCI auto. But £14,200 for a 9k mile 2004/53 reg Megane 2.0 VVT Dynamique coupe cabrio? Next week is a very busy one.

  An unwarranted mile 87D 205 1.1GL sold for £170, a faded 91J Sierra 2.0 Sapphire sold for £90, a 92J Primera sold for £105, a rusty 65k mile 91J Micra bid to £150, a 109k mile 91H Renault 5 Campus bid to £35, a 119k mile 92K Honda Civic 1.5LS with a rust in the rear arches sold for £650, a 139k mile 94L Mondeo LXTD bid to £135, but choicest of the lot was a pristine, 93L Kingfisher blue metallic Metro Rio Grande with just 16k on the clock which deserved all of the £300 it made.

  In comparison, an 1,830 mile 2003/53 reg Micra 1.2S 3-door automatic looked a bit dear to me at £6,550, but it was subject to a bidding battle. Whereas a 656 mile 2003/53 Renault Clio 1.2 Expression with “auto clutch” sold for £5,600. Other cheap nearly new cars today included a 9k mile 03 reg Audi A4 TDI V6 163bhp Sport Avant, sold for £19,650; a nice 11k mile met grey manual 2003/53 Jag S-Type 2.5 V6 Sport, sold for £16,900; and a 3,600 mile 2004/53 facelift Honda Civic 1.4E 5-door bid to a provisional £7,400.

  In comparison, a 67k mile 2001Y Mondeo II 1.8 Zetec was on the dear side at £5,450. New-shape Renault Megane values are holding up. All 03 reg, a 6k mile 1.4 Extreme Sport (3-dr) sold for £7,300, a 13k mile 1.4 Expression 5-dr sold for £7,400, a 12k mile 1.4 Dynamique 5-dr sold for £7,750, and a 5k mile 1.4 Dynamique 5-dr sold for £8,300.

  £850 Vectra at Auction Today 25 Jan 2002 (News)
  There's plenty of demand for 206s and there isn't enough for old-shape Mondeos. To rub in the point a bit harder, a 14,000 mile 2000X Renault Scenic 1.6 Monaco sold for a huge £9,600. List prices of these three cars when they were 'new' fifteen months ago were £11,095, £19,820 and £15,535. So, before any discounts, the 206 cost someone £3,395,the Scenic cost someone £5,935 and the Mondeo theoretically bankrupted someone at £12,170.
