  • Vectra C - Noise 19 Oct 2006 (Forum)
My 2004 Sri has developed a strange noise after its 2nd service at 32K miles. When driving at lower speeds in higher gears (35mph in 4th) so the revs are low, there is noise that sounds like a "budgie".It sounds "sort of" like a chirping noise.Possibly an air leak but where should I look (or do I put it back to the Dealer) Air Filter Pollen filter Oil and filter Fuel Filter were among the items changed, but this could be a "herring rouge" Any ideas welcome
  • Toyota Camry 2.4 VVTI conservation 3 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Basically, I am aware that the conservation or protection underneath the car has not been done by toyota. The car is a cmary right hand drive, but it is made in Japan. It looks like they did not do the protection needed. How can I contact toyota to ask why this hadn't been done, and maybe getting costs towards this. It is a 2002 car by the way, and was bought second hand.
  • Travelling during holiday period 1 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I'm going to visit my sister in Austria over New Years, so this will involve a drive down to Stansted (from Cheshire) at some point. Now, I can get the flights for £20 each if we go on the 29th, but £1.79 each if we go on the 31st. I've never travelled during the holiday period before, so can someone with more experience advise me, will the latter be a much worse idea than the former?
  • Where to park for Imp War Museum 25 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Hi- we're planning on a trip to the Imperial War Museum tomorrow (Sunday), and thinking about driving from Reading in the early-ish morning to a tube station car park, and taking the tube from there. The museum is near Waterloo, Lambeth North, Southwark and Elephant & Castle stations. Can anyone recommend a particular station to leave the car, or suggest a better idea?
  • Daddy's little helper 22 Sep 2006 (Forum)
She obvioulsy got bored with doing that and managed to reach up and get hold of my oil can and proceeded to empty the contents in the front and rear brakes soaking all the pads and discs in engine oil. How good is she ? I sent my wife out to test drive it afterwards - she came back ok. Have your little ones done anything as clever or is it just me.
  • Obscured road signs 20 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Maybe it's just round here, (East Midlands) but there seem to be an incredible number of road signs obscured by luxuriant tree/vegetation growth. On my short (5 mile) rural drive to work there are several 40 limit signs obscured, and several directional/warning signs which only become visible at the last minute. OK, I know my way and the limits, but what is the legal position with regard to this if there is an accident or you are caught speeding?
  • Use of fingers 5 Sep 2006 (Forum)
The index finger is used for pointing, the little finger is extended while drinking tea and the middle finger is used when driving. The ring finger is used only once, shortly before marriage." I rather like the explaination for middle finger dexterity.
  • fiat Stilo 2 Sep 2006 (Forum)
If i tap the brakes it seems to stop the noise for a short period but then it comes back. Also sometimes when i am driving on the motorway and do around 80 the steering wheel seems to vibrate. But it doesnt do it all the time. Are both issues interrelated and could it be something to do with the bearings? Cheers.
  • What price BMW Mini? 20 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Driving past my local Stephen James BMW Mini dealership the other day, I saw, outside on the forecourt a new (presumably) Mini convertible in white/cream with a price tag of some £27k+, in the windscreen.
  • rover 214, squeeling brakes 29 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I have a 1996 214 and have constant rotational squeeling sound after about 15mins of driving. I have been told that it's commoan for the pads to stick and some copper grease spray should help. It doesn't seem to be effecting the braking and light braking actually reduces the noise. Anyone had any experience in this?
  • Astra Van rack failure 27 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Question, How can a steering rack need replacing if the PAS works as advertised. The track rod arms haven't been damaged, no looseness in the play car drives and tracks as advertised, no leaks and front tyre tracking is spot on. The whole front suspension was stripped and the bushes replaced earlier in the year due to submersion in a flood. Van went in for a service (100,000 miles) and was told the racks shot, could it have been something the garage did earlier this year that would have damaged the rack?
  • '99 Focus 2.0 Coolant Loss 27 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Hi I have noticed that my coolant has dropped halfway between min and max over the last month, and there appears to be fresh fluid from a pump next to the auxilliary drive belt, just above the A/C compressor pump, is this the water pump?, and is this the most likely cause of gradual loss? can't see any other leaks from the hoses running to / from the coolant reservoir?
  • simple scratch removal 24 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Puts down 'phone and heads for Mb main dealers to get a pot of touch up paint- they coudn't match it! I shall leave the marks as a reminder to myself that driving requires full attention everywhere.
  • '06 Clio seatbelts 21 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I've been driving a new shape Clio since March and apart from the door handles being too far away, I've not had any issues to report. Until recently that is. Now I'm finding that the seatbelts are very difficult to put on without them "locking".
  • running an amber 20 Jul 2006 (Forum)

  • Stuck Accelerator Man Arrested 19 Jun 2006 (Forum)
He is a professional lorry driver, so would know what would happen if he simply turned the key back one notch. -- Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
  • Tiptronic 30 May 2006 (Forum)
I recently brought a tiptronic automatic. I think they are great! There are two modes of driving - automatic or manual. So I can have automatic gear changes when I want them and manual gear changes when I want them - it's the best of both worlds. The best bit is there is no clutch pedal - so no rolling back on hills, no stalling, ease of stopping and starting especially in traffic.
  • tom tom no no 16 May 2006 (Forum)
Is it reasonable to expect a demo in a shop or should I buy on spec (asked in a well known PC shop and the assistant pointed to the price label and said "it does all this"). Do I need street maps of USA if I'm never going to drive there. Are they as good as they say with hands free phones? If I have a satnav with speed camera capability will the gendarmes fine me? Is the ONE level OK or should I go for the latest version
  • Online Part Exchanging 8 May 2006 (Forum)
Hi, Still cannot make the other half decide what car she wants. (Its doing my head in now) Drive the deal and Dealdrivers have good offers on Ford Focus, but do not offer Part exchanges. I can get one from a local dealer online site for about a £900 more. I think the plan will be except the dealers offer, and try to sell my car privately.

I know the 406 has a bigger fuel tank but it worked out at around 56 mpg and that was a lot of town driving. My 1.9td 306 currently get around 42-45 mpg Thanks
