Please Help!!! Volvo S80 Electrical Prob 29 Mar 2007 (Forum)
But he does not know what controls the dash in the car. Can anyone tell me if it is the ECU or is there some other control module that runs it. I have been told by nearly every garage that volvo are the only people that will be able to help, but from the sounds of it a replacement ECU and their charges for labour, I will spend more than the car cost. -
Last Night's Traffic Cops on BBC1 15 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Don't know if this episode was shown nationally last night, it featured the accident on the M3 that tragically a 23 year old woman was killed due to a lorry driver being on his phone and running into the back of her. This has certainly opened my eyes to using mobiles at the wheel, I will confess it is something I have done in the past but when you see the stark reality of what can be the outcome then it really opens your eyes at to whether that call is important. -
2000 w plate Pug 1.9D oil/water leak 2 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I then took off the top of the expansion bottle and out spewed like a volcano black filth, a mixture of water and oil. My immediate thought was head gasket or head had gone, very expensive. The car however was running fine, no overheating or lack of power, everything normal. I then spoke with a friend who is in the trade and he said he had thought it may be the oil cooler. He asked around his pug contacts and they confirmed this as a possibility. -
Fiesta TDCI injectors / oil burn 23 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Roll on October 2006, same problems reoccuring, brought to dealer again in november and this time 3 injectors replaced FOC, but no further investigation or interest in possible underlying problem. Car running fine again but expecting a reoccurance and getting stung for new injectors at some stage, would like to keep the car, but have a lack of confidence. Any suggestions as to the underlying problem? I think 2002 was the first of the TDCI fiestas so maybe a design fault or ECU issue? -
VW Polo 1.9 AEF - Loosing Oil 9 Feb 2007 (Forum)
(Other than the one on top of the rocker cover which doesn't seem to be blocked) The car also makes a really loud rumble that can be felt through the interior when the vacuum pump kicks in after about 3 - 5 minutes of running. EGR valve is operating fine and the EGR pipe isn't blocked. Can?t find any obvious vacuum leaks but haven't had a test done. Is it possible for the two problems to be linked? Are they just symptoms of the engine being worn out? -
Picasso HDi Cambelt Crankshaft pulley 2 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Hoping it would go away (yes, I know ... ) I drove on until yesterday when the noise got really bad, the power steering packed in and a battery charge warning appeared. Shortly after there was a big bang but the car continued to run. Took the car to the dealers and it would seem the cranshaft pulley rubber interior had disintegrated and fallen off. The dealer claims the pulley would not have been touched to change the cambelt. -
Computer Related Questions - Volume 110 20 Dec 2006 (Forum)
I would be really grateful if anyone has any thoughts on how to cure this. Thanks in anticipation. Should have said I am running MS IE as my browser, Norton 2004 as anti virus and Sun belt Counterspy as spyware. -
Old cars you still like the look of. 29 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I don't mean established classics like E-Types and the like, but run of the mill stuff that's maybe 20 years old give or take, and you still feel odd pangs of desire when you see a nice one. On the way into work this morning I was overtaken by an absolutely immaculate mk2 Astra GTE 16v. -
Range Rover cutting out 27 Nov 2006 (Forum)
In the most embarressing places like the middle of roundabouts. Leave it for about 5 minutes and it starts and runs fine for about 4 miles then it does it again. I've replaced the petrol filter, and checked that when its stopped fuel is still being pumped by disconnecting hose and cranking over. (fortunately the rear floor was removed for the welding so its easy to get at.) -
1997 Alhambra 2.0 auto - opinions? 27 Nov 2006 (Forum)
So, my first question is, what's the backroom's verdict on this as an MPV? Worth a look or steer well clear? My second question is, as this would be bought as a car to run to the scrapyard, would the 2 litre/auto combination be capable of towing a caravan or small trailer (with a suitable cooler fitted to the box) or would I become a rolling roadblock as soon as I set off for the ferry? -
Servo/M Cylinder 1995 Audi A6 23 Nov 2006 (Forum)
It did it again moments later so we recovered it by RAC to home. I have looked for anything amiss and can find nothing obvious. I then took it for a test run and everything appeared normal however after a few miles the brakes began to bind on. I think it was all brakes not just one set. I have removed the master cylinder and again can find nothing obviously wrong. -
CR Diesel Nightmares. 9 Nov 2006 (Forum)
The oil will just burn in the same way as the diesel once it has done its lubrication work having passed through the low pressure pump, high pressure pump & then the injectors. I've tried it with the last 3 fuel fills & the engine starts & runs the same as it always has. Can anyone see any downfall in this idea. At least I can sleep sounder at night LOL. -
Hyundai Yellow Engine Check Light 6 Oct 2006 (Forum)
It stayed off for about 3 days and came back on so i dissconnected the battery and then true to form 3 days later it came back on again. The car appears to be running the same as normal so i'm stumped to whats wrong with it. Surely if there was a major problem then the light would come straight back on instead of the 3 day delay? Has anyone else had any problems like this and if so what did they do to fix them. hope someone can help... -
who knows about immobilisers? Mk2 Golf 30 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Went to the shop in the ever faithful MK 2 Diesel Golf, only wearing 220k and just past its mot. Running and starting fine, came out, turned the key and the engine turned over lovely then cut out - turned the key again, all the dash lights came on but nothing happens. You can hear the solenoid under the bonnet clicking Now this car has central locking that packed up ages ago, and has an alarm that was an afterfit, it first stopped making any noise ( no siren) than didnt beep when you pressed the seperate fob ( its not in the key , the car is J reg). -
Biodiesel user, total loss of power 28 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Went back into the car, and turned the engine over...after about 10-15 seconds as well as applying the accelerator the car came back to life, and i finshed the remaining 90 miles back to Stoke. This morning the car was just as hard to start as it had been on the hard shoulder Ive been running on B100 since May in my Mk3 Golf. The fuel filer was replaced after 500 miles of B100 and I've done another 2,200 miles since. Could it be that the new filter is clogged up with more gump and needs replacing ? -
mpv for towing? 14 Aug 2006 (Forum)
There a fairly big list of criteria new car needs to fit! This is sole family car, so needs to be fairly economical to run - (at least, no really big 4x4's) At least 6 seats Not too low slung - We live out on the moors and lanes get big ruts - 405 just about ok, old Mondeo would lose it 's exhaust from time to time. And this is the stumbling point - must occasionally tow small horsebox - combined weight of 2 ponies 600kg max, plus trailer weight . -

Garages - have you had bad experiences? 29 Jun 2006 (Forum)
All garages promise they will phone back but they never do..and all i get is excuses there a problem with this and that and they doing it now..i was supposed have car back on friday and its Tuesday now..they say that engine is running but cuts out - might be the sensor..and that they have to contact renault..I just think they are dragging things on to bump up charges or one of the mechanics has borrowed it to go on holiday! if they decided to bump up the bill.. -
Car bought with faults-any comeback? 15 Jun 2006 (Forum)
The car had just been serviced by a main dealer - so the sensor fault codes would have been present then and the appalling state of the disk and pads would have been noticed too. In fact, the front disks were so bad the MOT station (run by a friend of mine) said they'd have to fail the car unless I had them replaced. When shown to me (I saw them take them off) it soon became apparent just how worn they were. This little lot has cost me just under £500 in the past 3 weeks, have I got any chance or reason to expect anything from the dealer - or is it my look out that I didn't spot these things at the time? -
Rover 214SLi 1994 -Electrics problem 12 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Also something had scored a groove into the plastic casing of the old regulator....but it could not be identified what caused this. For the last 18 months the battery light on the dashboard has glowed dimly while the engine was running, but didn't cause any problems with regard to charging the battery. One thing I did notice was that after driving for a few hours, the lights tended to dim and get bright again intermittently.
