Modern Dash's, any need for the clutter? 8 Sep 2009 (Forum)
, I really struggle to see anything on the dash and find it quite of putting, as I have to look down these ?pipes? just to see anything ? I like a dash that?s clear and well laid out, it just seems that everything is squashed together (warning/information lights on the dials them selves obscured by the needles) the smallest temp and fuel gauges and everything at the end of a tube, all in the name of design The fiat Bravo (Brava??) -
The modern non motorist and the `sealed` bonnet 5 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I wonder how many cars are making it to two years and 20,000 miles without opening the bonnet and whether bonnet hinges ever seize and snap off at service time? What a triumph though for anyone who`s actually succeeded at never doing anything but drive and yet sold it on at the same price as us regular checkers. Even more so if there wasn`t a trace of worry in doing that. -

Ford Transit (2006 - ) - Bad Mechanic, what now? 27 Aug 2009 (Forum)
ve bought shoes, fit kit and cylinder and he said he will come back and rectify the work. He has not been seen since, and isn?t answering his phone; he has the keys and has been paid. He?s not admitted responsibility but I fail to see how it couldn?t be his fault. What do I do now? -
Re-taxing a SORNed bike? 6 Aug 2009 (Forum)
t respond because I had just sold my Suzuki in a fit of pique after forgetting to declare SORN whilst the bike was laid up in the garage over winter. I didn?t mention that our garage housed my 1958 Triumph T21 ? last ridden in 1976, and my son?s SORNed 1988 Yamaha RXS100. When I suggested to a bike-mad friend that I would sell the Triumph, he was adamant that we should get it going again (this will no doubt appear on another thread at some time in the future!) -
Mercedes Benz C-Class W203 (2000 - 2007) - 01 2.2 loss of power,jerking,smoking and hissing . 5 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Hello ALL I just got a 2001 w203 merc that's done 169000miles.All was fine until i first noticed recently on a highway that i couldn't accelerate well enough to overtake or go above 135k.For a while this was only on long distances, but recently, the car gives off a bit too much smoke and any attempts at intant accelaration gives off a screeching and hissing noise, intermittent jerks and the engine feels like its stiffled. There 's been no check engine sign and replacing the MAF,fuel filter or decarbonating the air circuit has not helped so far(though we got out huge lumps of accumulated soot). We've also not been able to diagnose any engine faults.Did i mention the awful black smoke from the exhaust?? -
Does aircon normally run when heater is on? 23 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I know the heat is effectively free, but the a/c compressor must put some load on the engine. I guess I should keep the a/c off when I don't need it in future. This is on a Jag S-type, which maintains a specified cabin temperature when the heater controls are set to "auto". -
Renault Espace (1997 - 2002) - 02 Air Conditioning not working. 20 Jun 2009 (Forum)

Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 05 1.6 Front Suspension 19 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Hi All I have an old style 2005 Focus Flight 3 door with 63k on the clock (I have owned from new). Last week the O/S/F suspension spring snapped, luckily only the top coil of the spring came off so no damage was done and I was able to drive it to get repaired. The next day I took it to get a new spring fitted (I know I should have got the 2 done) but I only got the 1 side done. -
Audi A3 + S3 (1996 - 2001) - 00 1.8 Grinding/drooning noise - but not turning 12 Jun 2009 (Forum)
It seems to get slightly worse when i turn right, but disaapears when i turn left at that speed. When i first noticed it i thought tyres. I am running Conti 2's on the front and they are lowish on tread but i have run lower with the same tyres with no problems. The pressures are all fine. Also, to add to the confusion, i recently had a service by Dean at 4 rings and he never noticed anything, and i trust his judgement. -
Toyota Avensis (2003 - 2008) - 05 2.2 diesel - Dual Mass Flywheel 31 May 2009 (Forum)
Not rocket science to find the problem surely..Heard about this dual-mass flywheel problem and wondered if there is a connection?..Toyota s foreman test drove it with me and said it drives like a typical Avensis!!.He must have had ear muffs on you think!! Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 00 1.6 ECU light on- starts "missing"at const foot 6 May 2009 (Forum)
I have noticed that whenever this happens the care starts to miss at constant foot pressure (accelerator). It?s better at high revs and higher speeds. The Code retrieved is P0400 EGR valve redistribution. The EGR Valve has been changed and also the EXHAUST Manifold has been changed (£300.00) as it & Cat both were having a crack. -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.6 Brake Issues 20 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Anyhow recently when applying the brakes they have developed a very slight squeal, I thought this would disappear over time if the discs/pads where dirty etc however it hasn?t. It?s the same tone/volume of squeak all the time, and there is (AFIK) no degrade in performance. The pads/discs should be covered under warranty, however before I ring up Vauxhall and ask them to take a look and fix, I was wondering if I could have some advice/thoughts 1st. -
Honda Accord UK (2003 - 2008) - Just bought an 05 2.2 CDTI Sport. Advice 11 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Hi, just bought the above for the wife from BCA Bridgwater today with one owner 103k, 9 Honda stamps to 100k. It is utterly MINT and totally unabused and has come direct from Howards Honda of Weston S Mare who supplied and serviced throughout it's life. It's a one owner and drives like new for £3956 inc Buyers Premium. I know prices are crazy at the moment, however I think it's a good deal, do you ? -
Ford Fiesta (2000 - 2002) - 00 1.6 Central Locking Stuck in a Loop 7 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Hello there I was wondering if anyone can help me with a problem I have been having for a while now. Here goes - When the central locking on my '00 Fiesta Zetec-s is opened (with either of my two keys) it opens and then closes itself. This happens when opened remotely or with the key in either side lock. If I pull the handle at the right time I can manage to get the door open (with the locks still looping) then when I get in and close the door they lock and stop. -
Honda Jazz/Fit (2008 - ) - Any Discount for a Honda? 11 Mar 2009 (Forum)
It seems that since Honda have a strong reputation for quality and reliability they may not negotiate as I have not seen any sign yet of a willingness to lower the price (we had a demo 5 days ago), even in spite of the economic situation. Elsewhere you can find advertsied £1000's off list price, but I have seen nothing in any media articles about 'Honda deals', etc, incl. this very own HJohn website. So in a sense is buying a Honda in this downturn no great advantage? Grateful for any thoughts and opinions. -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1998 1.4 Should I stick to 15W-30 oil ? 14 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Hi, I owned for five years a fabulous Fiesta Zetec S 1.4 from 1998, and even though the engine seems to be working fine -it has 72000 kms in the clock-, I wonder if I should use a different motor oil since my owner's handbook recommends 15W-40, perhaps because Ford considered that the car would be driven in hot weather -Mexico-, but we have a wide range temperatures here, from the winter's mornings below 2 or 3 grades to a maximum around 20 grades... of course in the coasts areas they never have winters, but I've been tempted to switch to 5W-30, since even in summer time I never use the car above 27 or 28 grades... -
Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 1996 2.5 V6 - Head Gasket Repair 13 Feb 2009 (Forum)
If anyone is interested, I'll post a "blog" on here of what the process is and how it goes? To start the record, the symptoms are signs of steam coming from the tail pipe(s). Using a small amount of coolant, with some evidence of gases in the reservoir. It looks like it is early signs of HG failure and that is why I am hoping this product can do a realtively good fix, for a fraction of the price of a new HG! -
Audi A4 B6 (2001 - 2005) - 03 1.9 tdi non starter 9 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Just wondering if any of you's guys have ever encountered anything like this, having replaced the front disc's and pad s the week prior I am now left with a non-running vehicle, which gives me all the faults displays, but points to there being a fault in the abs system,it will turn over but not start and does not display the glow plug light in the display when the ignition is turned on,Everyone I have consulted says this has to be taken to a dealer for diagnosis.how does it go from a running vehicle to a breakdown with no prior warning, the audi dealer at which it presently is have placed it on their machine and comeback saying it will not communicate with there computer, surely this was the aim of these machines to narrow problem down, their now telling me it could possibly require a few hrs labour to issolate the problem,no guarantees.where do I go from here???????? -
BMW 3-Series E92 Coupe (2006 - ) - 320d or 325i 24 Dec 2008 (Forum)
The credit crunch seems to have hit the price of larger petrol engine cars more than diesels and there are some 325's available at pretty keen prices at the moment. I intend to keep the car for 3 years so even after depreciation I'm guessing that I wont be any more out of pocket for buying a petrol rather than diesel car.
